Gran Turismo Sport Beta Thread

Thought you guys might enjoy this. One of the best online races I've ever had and it shows how SR/DR is making people behave.

Race starts at 6:30

Thanks for posting this. I browsed through to caught several notable moments, and you comment on them well. Feel a little better with myself knowing someone else is thinking the same sorts of things as I do during races.

With the S-rank SR players there's generally a lot of leeway given at corners that are contested with players taking different lines. If there is accidental contact, the offending player will lift for a second and give back the position if they took it. Both drivers know if they were besting going into a corner or not. The current server calculations for SR seem to allow 2-3 small contacts like that per race without a rank penalty, which I think is fair among players who really obviously have shown they know how to be polite to get into S and are almost 100% certain to know when they screwed up.

Did a few races right after the update when the player pool was low and I had no qualifying time, and, uh, yeah, I realized how much I'd been spoiled.

Me? I'm stuck in B/S where I get schooled by drivers in A but dominate in races I hit the lower end of B and C. Frustrating, and I think I'm almost at the limit of what's possible with the standard controller since I'm entirely forced to use TCS above N300, which I know costs me a few seconds a lap, plus I don't have settings totally nailed down. Also a total coward with a social anxiety disorder so I keep to myself... eheheh.

I was the guy racing him.

You're going to need tunes to compete at the top. GTPlanet has several.

Also man that Dragon Trail track is a lot of fun. Here is quick lap by me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4DHuGoeMjE&t=41s

If I'm not mistaken, their DC engine is owned by Sony so what ever new game they're working on isn't using the Driveclub engine i think.

That's right. According to Rushy, they're developing a new multiplatform IP and engine from scratch, so we can asume is going to take some time.

However, I think they're very aware that one of the best Driveclub selling points was its visual and effects awesomeness. I bet they're going to blow our minds even more than with Driveclub, specially with the PC version.

Pretty sure until they 3d scan entire tracks including tree's and geometry. Tree's in racing games will always look plain.

Trees are bad in every single 60 fps racing game. There are better tracks but the quality is still very low.

I don't know why people are so focused on GT Sport trees though.

The foliage reacts well depending on the brightness .. it becomes almost translucent with strong light <3

GT Sport New Gameplay - The Game In Numbers (PlayStation Access - YouTube)

I apologise if this has been posted elsewhere, I've not seen it yet.

It's from the private E3 event, something I'd heard before is that according to Kazunori Yamauchi the game content is actually finished and the remainder of the time will be spent polishing the game, making sure it runs and looks how they want it to. They say that this is only the second game that Polyphony Digital has had the time to be able to do this, the only other game they've been able to do this with was the first Gran Turismo on PS1.

Yamauchi told us, "but GT5 for us, when you talk about its status, it's at a point we can release it any time we want, but we can always keep working on it. It's very important for us to make sure everything is done perfectly and everything is done in detail."

I assume you posted that because you think it's connected in some way to what I posted? If you read both, they aren't actually suggesting the same thing though.

Yeah I was wondering why he posted something that's not really related.

It's what that statement reminded me of.

"we're just polishing the game now, you guys" One and half years later and GT5 was still a mess at launch.

If that, is the only problem with a near photoreal game. PD's done it again. It's insane to see all these images, in game (remember gt allegedly only makes good replays) and folks still harping on trees.

I still am just perplexed the sound always sucks. But with a good woofer, eh. It's manageable. Most of the time you're focused on driving, In the driving game. And shaving down seconds.

But, folks will always complain. Even if they fractally grew trees and named them all. Folks would just move onto something else.

I'll take the car porn, as well as environment porn, and a dodgy tree over something that doesn't even approach these visuals.

How does this perform on the last gen ps4?
Can..someone get me into the beta? I've been drive clubbing it. Still spectacular, but the assists are killing me.

Ah, yeah. No problem with it. :)

I appreciate that on first glance it could look like they're the same thing but even though the actual words may be similar the do suggest subtly different things. Although it's all third or fourth hand information for people who weren't actually present it does sound like quite a positive thing to me.

To me, it sounds like they have the content there in terms of building the assets, we know they have a working damage system in place that they've shown anybody yet, we know there's weather as well but it sounds like it's a matter tying it all together and polishing it all up to the level that they're happy to sell it top us at.

It sounds like a good place to be and having been in the closed beta since the start all these little improvements they've been able to make have really transformed it for me. I'm glad they've actually got time available to them to get as close to their original vision as possible.

I keep saying it but having seen all the improvements, as much as I really want to play the game I'm more than happy to wait until it's ready. I'm sure many people would disagree with me but I'm all for them taking their time with these as I'm really positive about what they're doing, which isn't always true with them. :)

Gran Turismo went the wrong way somewhere around 4 and 5 with all those boring real circuits. Give me a real Gran Turismo with these great fictional tracks and my 80's cult cars like the Nissan Silvia. That is Gran Turismo to me. Not this online centered boring FIA become a real driver bullshit on those boring circuits and small variations of boring circuits. I also don't give a rat's ass about moving cars in a photolocation background. Also I don't need complete cockpits rendered and cars that are so highly detailed they can last for ten years, again. Just give me tons of ordinary street cars and all the legendary fictional tracks, a big, BIG single player campaign and a nice arcade mode.

I mean, can't Kaz form a second team who's aim it is to produce a nostalgic, retro, fictional, romantic Gran Turismo?

/end rant

Sport really overhauls the sound engine. There's no basis in saying the sound is bad anymore with this game really.

I don't necessarily agree with the 80's cars, but those tracks are some of the best in Gran Turismo history. I would put Autumn Ring and High Speed Ring in there as well. I swear trial mountain is my favorite track pf all times...

I'm on the other end of this. I do not care for the fictional tracks in GT (or Forza) and prefer to have real world tracks. I do however get tired of seeing the same world tracks in every racing game. Laguna Seca, Suzuka etc I can live with out.

So they reworked the sound engine, bringing motor sounds from "absolute worst" to "very very bad". Gotcha.

Seriously, compare GTS sounds to dirt, project cars, arsetto Corsa and the like. GTS doesn't stand a chance. The sounds have improved, correct. But it's still horrible.

I think you're dramatic, and your opinion is horrible. The sounds are good.

Different taste I guess.

@Dumb Since this is obviously the only GT game we will get this gen, I'm hope Kaz does include all the more fan request stuff in updates. GT like Mario kart only needs one game a gen IMO, just update it a lot!

Yeah I'd be okay with that if they keep adding content.

100%.

Although for PS5 I hope they get the game out at least within the first two years.

Especially with the naming, I think it'll be easy to have "seasons" of content. Even if it launches with primarily real-world tracks, it's reasonable to expect another batch later on as a sort of expansion to GTS. I'd love a classic fantasy-track set (assuming we aren't gonna see them in the base game, anyway).

They're pretty deliberately keeping their cards close to their chest, which I think is gonna mean some happy faces the deeper we get into the final reveals.

Sounds are certainly behind the competition. But the best they've ever been in GT.

Looking at the footage available, it seems like they've dropped older cars all together. Such a shame.
