What's funny is that some of the responses in this thread are just like some of the responses to the Q when it was unveiled.

And just like the Q, no one will care about it after it comes out but a few importers.

How about a Kingdom Hearts style game with characters from the Nintendo and Sega universe.

It would OWN. However, there's a problem. If they trow in Square characters, there will be a ton of fanfics about the beautiful romance between Squall and Luigi *shudders*

"So Tingle, about those sailors..."

I have 1 and I barely use it, what I really want wii to do is to play avi files from burned DVD discs, theirs a killer app right there.

In fact, I don't give a shit about DVD playback, but if it could play avi files off a computer network share, that would be the ticket.

A network share would be great, but will never happen. I'm really just hoping they have solid support for movie formats off the SD card. That'd be awesome!

I'm just saying that Nintendo's "profit through bloating prices" strategy is non-capitalist. Standard practices would be "profit through market domination".

Adjusting to the market doesn't mean you're acting in a non-capitalist way. Insuring profit should be the priority, the tactics towards achieving that don't matter. It's not like Nintendo are communists.

You price at whatever level people will buy at.

I'm still laughing about the "CNN = liberal scum" comment. In a dry-heaving, non-emotable, God-help-us-all way. Knowing that there are many people who see CNN as having a liberal bias, and that advertising your gaming product on it says anything about your political bias as a company. I think I just learned something today.

Please explain what is so "non-capitalist" about making money off of selling a product.

Because the American "bigger is better mentality" = true capitalism.
But nintendo's getting bigger pockets! That's capitalist, right?

No. When a company uses a liberal, terrorist propaganda newschannel like CNN for their news provider, it is clear that these bigger pockets will be put in service of the Cuban Communists.

- CNN has signed up with Nintendo as the provider of news content on tne News Channel in American and Japan. News will be presented by category, but another way of getting to it is by spinning the weather globe to find stories in different countries

I wonder if it is possible to have the newsfeed scroll at the bottom of the screen. That would be porn star tits.

- Sega has moved a significant number of development staff from PS3 to Wii over the Summer

I would like to see House of the Dead 4 go to the Wii. The Lindbergh is meant for multiplatform gaming and the Wii controller would work well. Make it happen. I also hope that Sega does a better job this generation than last. We have seen Sega at their worst; its now time to get back to being good again.

- Although Nintendo has removed DVD movie playback from the Wii, it plans to launch in Japan next year an enhanced Wii capable of such a feature

Who cares. Nintendo will probably overprice this thing. Just get a $40 DVD player that will probably be a better DVD player anyway. Anyone who doesn't own a DVD player in 2006 doesn't want to watch DVDs.

- Nintendo intended to bring Wii to shop shelves in the UK and US for £150 and $200, but became influenced by pressure from the larger retail chains, which raised concerns over margins and low so-called 'basket value' (ie, the amount of revenue generated from a customer's overall purchases at the till)

We all knew Nintendo was profit mongering. They could have tossed in a free game or free VC points if they gave half of a damn about the consumer. I'm probably correct in the assumption that Nintendo will be making an assload of profit from their $60 controllers that probably cost half that to manufacture.

- Edge says that Wii Sports will be to Wii what Mario 64 was to the N64. Says golf has the best single player mode (no surprise) and boxing is their favourite overall

Unlikely.

As for Nintendo's capitalistic practices, it doesn't matter. If people still line up to buy the system, then there is demand for it at that price. Nintendo isn't going to drop the price to satiate the cynical assholes who infest forums who were probably never going to bother getting a Wii in the first place. As PT Barnum says, there's a new sucker born every minute.

I don't know what to do now, I want a DVD Video capable Wii, because it's one less power plug, scart socket, remote and space-in-the-tv-cabinet requirement. I hope they release in Europe.

He said on the GameCube it only sold 150,000 in Europe but the DS game has already passed 850,000

Actually most PSP owners I know are using them for Nes and SNES games
