I need to get around to posting the weapons used by the different races. Probably tomorrow. I've seen some videos of people who have made their own bolt guns to scale. I understand a typical issued bolter weighs 60 lbs. fully loaded and has the recoil of a self propelled rocket launcher, which makes sense since that's what it technically is.

Not to mention that multiplayer would be an absolute nightmare. I had a battle with five friends of mine when we were sixteen or seventeen. Eldar vs Space Wolves vs Tyranids, on a ten feet by six feet table, and it took us three days. You just couldn't do that kind of thing with a videogame in a way that would do it justice.

I'm not talking a fixed $50 product. I'm talking an actual recreation of the tabletop game, down to having to buy virtual figurines exactly as you would the physical ones. As mentioned above, it would be like Magic Online.

Damnation Crusade, it's a short (6-7 issues?) mini about the Black Templars. It has a fun little twist at the end like a 40K short story too.

Will check it out thanks.

Magic is a game that kind of transcends its format, which is why Magic Online has done so well. A digital recreation of warhammer is really the same as a very slow, very boring turned based strategy video game. The only real difference is the meta knowledge that the 40k characters and environments are supposed to be fake, or something.

Started listening to Horus Rising now, to get my fix of intergalactic warfare litterature. What novels in The Horus Heresy should I continue on with next? Do I need to get all of them in chronological order or are some more "lore-important" than others?

For example, I read a bit about Descent of Angels and it looks quite interesting, do I need to read anything before that one to "get it"?

I'd go with the first 5 novels for starters.

I liked Legion (alpha legion). I'd recommend Thousand Sons and First Heretic as well.

Not particularly. It serves as an origin story of sorts for the Dark Angels. IMO, this was kind of a let down. The sequel, Fall Angels, even more so... *shrug*

-----

Just finished the second Soul Drinkers Omnibus recently... Does anyone else think they're an Alpha Legion off-shoot? The traitor M.O. seems similar to them. I have to wonder if Lysander is a plant too considering he's the only one of the Imperial Fists who is seen to activate the Soul Spear. It is a bit convenient at the end that he's in the company of other Fists so there's nothing saying his blood does or does not trigger the portal. :p His history on the Lexicanum site could easily be manipulated to reflect such a connection, but that's just one of my far out crazy thoughts. *shrug*

I enjoyed reading the last topic and this one, maybe I'll check out some of the novels later on, it just feels a bit overwhelming since there's probably so much stuff that has been released over a couple of decades =/

I think I bought some roleplaying book twenty years ago actually, think it had to do with some kind of temple/religious knights or something, the artwork was amazing but I only played on game. I should try to locate it.

Anyone else waiting eagerly for the release of Space Marines next week? Really looking forward to playing against them with my Tau. They've been kinda underpowered for a good while so I'm glad they'll be putting up much more of a fight. I'd consider my friend who plays vanilla marines much better player than myself but our games have been woefully one-sided since the release of the new Tau book. Will breathe new life to our gaming sessions for sure.

Last time I checked the Black Library had released Descent of Angels!

I wish I'd purchased 'Horus Heresy: Collected Visions' years back, since it seems to be out of print now. Hopefully I can find a cheap copy online as from what I remember it was a fantastic resource of art and background.

"Visions of Heresy" is supposed to be an update to that, but the release date seems to have been pushed back to April 2014. It's hard to get any info on it, though they're probably going to include the full HH artwork for the books etc so far whilst ditching some of the older art (from the cards?). There's also supposed to be updated lore.

The Heresy books that I've enjoyed the most are the ones that follow the main story line (book 1-3), but all of them are good. I wish they would advance the story along a little more with the books but it's easy to see why they are milking it with these side stories. They are good so I can't complain too much.

I own a copy of The Horus Heresy: Collected Visions. It is an amazing book, full of fantastic art and great lore.

Friend got it for me for my birthday. Tbh I didn't think it was a particularly great present all things considered, but I still like the book! It's very impressive.

That's music to my ears! I'll definitely pick up a copy when it's released!
I see what you mean about being delayed too, I've found a thread on Warseer back from last year the title was announced!

Anyone else read The Sabbat Worlds Crusades book? (I say read, but it's written more in the style of factual overview than a novel you would read front to back).

Doesn't need to be that long :P. If it is from Dan Abnett or Aaron Dembski-Bowden, buy it because it will probably be awesome. The Ciaphas Cain series by Sandy Mitchell is great fun as well. Books from anyone else, buyer beware.

But honestly, it would be pretty useful. Authors like Graham McNeill do write some good books (like Storm of Iron), but he is so incredibly inconsistent.

Also, if you ever run across a book by C.S. Goto or Henry Zou at a bookstore, you should purge it by fire in the name of the Emperor. Trust me, you would be doing Barnes & Noble a favor.

Love me some 40K. I remember trying to play space crusade as a kid, but we just played with the models instead of playing the game properly. But it left me with a fondness for 40K, which was renewed when I got DoW2 a few years ago. Loved Space Marine too, and ive just finished DOW2 Retribution. Im also replaying Space Marine now too, got a bit of a hard on for 40K over the last few weeks!

SoB in Soulstorm has a few bugs that broke the game, granting resource or buffs from a listening post or generator, i forget already.

Aside from that SoB in the tabletop didn't get traction because of the WD codex being unusable or the lack of models/attention by GW at the time.

Speaking of, I finished the Angel Exterminatus audiobook maybe 2 weeks ago and David Timson's Perturabo is top shelf. Too bad the book itself is just a 500 page Honsou origin story and some of his other performances were a little lacking (somehow his Fulgrim felt off after his reading of Fulgrim).

Shit can get fucked up, but the Geller Field if it holds makes it a relatively safe journey. Although some of the workers tend to go a mid mad staring into the warp.

Not all the tech. Only very specialised one's like Teleportation.

Ships and weapons are made by templates and what no set before hand and most of it is known to them or known from reverse engineering. Again, certain specialised weapons and vehicles cannot be recreated and thus are only used when of vital importance.
