Android |OT8| ConFuchsia say beta is better

What a time to be alive. I got the Kindle with ads and it actually doesn't bother me at all.

It's kinda nice not having to sideload apks to get some Amazon apps, only downside is not being able to remove the Amazon apps I don't want.

I went to the 4th Gen Play for a cheap phone to hold me over after my Nexus 5 died but it seems like waiting for the 2nd gen Pixel phones was a mistake.

I'll probably grab the 5th Gen Plus if nothing better for that price point is out by like October.

Essential went through fcc. Remember that was a phone?

Also oneplus 5 came. Box was a little beat up. Phone is ridiculously fast compare to the s8.

Can't tell 1080p pentile unless I'm in bed and it's in my face.

It really sucks these 1080p amoled panels OnePlus uses hurts my eyes.

I watched lotsa youtube reviewers and no one mentioned about the pentile oled. Makes you wonder how impartial and commercialised things are now

A few smaller youtubers talked about it. Most of the big ones said it looks great or tried to justify it by saying Samsung lowered their resolution out of the box to 1080p as if it's the same thing. What do you expect when they all get the phone free and early though?

Is the 5X still worth getting? I plan to purchase a phone for my mom and she has an old S4. She will just be using the phone for navigation, facebook, calls, etc. Nothing fancy.

My wife bought her 5x last June and it's 4 days out of warranty, just bootlooped last night. I'd keep away from the 5x.

It's incredible really, NO ONE mentioned that it's pentile not even Mr. "i-love-pixels" MKBHD... what a bunch of soldouts.

When had MKBHD ever given detailed info

Don't think I've ever even heard him say pentile

Uh i thought he mentioned it in the 1+3 review but after checking he actually didn't... still, it' ridiculous from someone who spends a fortune on a 8k red camera and talks how about he loves pixels and all that jazz yet fails to mention the reason why the 1+ screens looks bad compared to any other decent screen.
i actually prefer a 1080p screen compared to a QHD one because of that sweet % gain of battery life but if it's pentile then it's automatically trash.

Motorola is expected to announce the Moto Z2 and possibly the Moto X4 tonight (June 27 @7PM). I dunno what time zone their event is in.

As long as price and hardware are good, I feel like I'll be getting one of these for myself as the S8 supposedly has performance issues and OP5 has some odd tradeoffs for the price. It's sad when Motorola seems like the most exciting phone choice of the year. Here's hoping they have a new/price-cut camera moto mod thingy.

So if I am reading all this correctly than it would be a better option to get a used Oneplus 3T than a new Oneplus 5, is that right?

I really can't decide what to get.. I have Z2 that I want to get rid off asap, I've been waiting for OP5 but I'm bit disappointed, no ois, camera worse than s8 and i7, don't like design and screen comparing to s8+ etc
Plus I'd have to wait to get it because they don't ship here so someone from abroad would have to bring it to me.
Other option is s8+, it's 100eur or bit more expensive but available right away. Is that my best bet to get? We don't get any of those nice deals here you just pay and get the phone, no free accessories or discounts, providers charge a lot more than dealers around town too.
Any other phone to look for, I just want top of the line one, great design great camera etc. I know pixel is coming later this year but that one is hard to get a hold of too and costs over 1000 eur, not fan of iphones, dunno if anything else is around the corner.

Mine died 11 months after buying it. Decent phone, apart from battery life, but thanks to the hardware issues I'd avoid too.

Also, Dags I think you have a two year warranty, contact LG.

I love my S8+. It's still banging even after owning it for a month or two. It might not be stock Android smooth, but I love the screen and the features. Plus the camera was more than fine on my recent vacation.

What performance issues? 🤔

S8+ here. No issues.

Amazon gave her a refund without questioning it. Just need to find a replacement phone around the £200 mark now. Any obvious recommendations?

https://www.androidcentral.com/alcatel-idol-5s-unveiled-snapdragon-625-heads-amazon-just-199

Alcatel has unveiled the successor to the Idol 5, the Idol 5S. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 625, and will go up for sale on Amazon starting July 10 for $279. If you don't mind seeing lock screen ads, you can pick up the Prime Exclusive edition right now for just $199, an $80 discount from its retail price. Alcatel is also making the A50 and A30 Plus available on Amazon for $99 and $79 respectively.

For $199, there's plenty to like in the Idol 5S, which has a 5.2-inch Full HD display with 2.5D curved glass, Snapdragon 625, 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage, microSD slot, 12MP camera, 8MP front camera with a flash module, stereo speakers at the front, and 2620mAh battery. The Idol 5S is initially compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile, but a software update that will be rolled out over the summer will add support for Sprint and Verizon.

FWIW my wife's 5X is still in perfect working order. I'm due for an upgrade myself and am eyeing getting a 5X.

OnePlus 5 sales seem soft. Still available to purchase online for imnediate shipment after officially launching last night.

The phone is priced $100 too high to be interesting. Like I said before, no one would've cared about the 1+1 if they had launched at those prices. Why would it be different now?

I probably wouldn't even get it at $400. I don't want an iPhone running Android. Even if it were so (worse camera, no IP rating, bad customer support) I probably still wouldn't get it.

Some posters here are saying it gets bogged down and closes apps due to memory management issues. I don't know what their usage scenarios are like.

The Samsung Phone app can be slow sometimes, but it is rare. And yeah, it has an aggresive memory management when you open 3 billion apps... or a game because of the game mode it has.

Not really "issues" though. Phone is great.

Honor is out in europe and I want one.

It's got my girl Ir B in tow.
It uses emmc memory but it costs less.
It overheats according to Damir Franc.
Honor's software is MEH.

I got the G6 (H870DS) this week, paid £357 for it from eGlobal. Price has dropped to £320 since I ordered it. :/

Nice phone, early days so still unsure on battery life. Quad dac definitely makes a difference, problem is I tend to use wireless headphones so it's a bit wasted on me.

EU buyers got screwed with the peasant version we got (32gb,no quad dac, no wireless charging)

Yeah think I'm gonna go with it, cba waiting for pixel and not interested in iphone, guess no alternative.
XZ Premium?

The bezels are even bigger than on my z2, really don't like the design, feels like a step backwards.

What's the best way to go about taking a picture of a dead pixel sized object on the screen? I bought a Moto G5 Plus from Ting and noticed something pixel sized on the screen. It's visible when the screen is off, so it's not a dead pixel. I haven't hit the screen with anything or dropped it yet, and even then I don't know of anything hard enough to cause a pixel sized dent in the screen without causing a scratch or other bigger damage.

I got a blurry ass picture with a smartphone, but the people I bought it from are telling me it's not good enough.

Three things hurt them, IMO:

It's damn near the same display from last year.
Brand tarnished due to OP2 not getting Nougat after months of reassurances
No Microsd support

She might have warranty though.
My dad's 5x bootlooped and he bought his 18 months ago.
Support told me that for this issue they extend the warranty.

Edit: NVM, saw you've got it sorted

Idol 5S looks nice

sadly my bud is coming back from the US earlier than it releases so he'll be getting me the 4gb64gb Moto G5+ tomorrow

think im just gonna have him enter a Best Buy and get me the regular version for $299

I see that Amazon ads can be removed kinda easily for the Prime version with some tinkering but idk. would you guys say definetly go for the cheaper Amazon ver. with ads? id have to have it sent to his place

edit: i'll actually have him go to Target and try to Price Match the Amazon ver. heard that sometimes works, lol
