I didn't want this buried inside the Yakuza Kiwami 2 announcement thread, so thought it deserved its own thread. Gaffer YakuzaArk92 takes us around Kabuki-cho in Tokyo to show us the locations they use in the games. The virtual tourism on offer in the Yakuza games is one reason many fans love this series. The videos are definitely worth checking out.

I'm making this thread for him because he's a junior at the moment. Original message below...

In November 2016, I travelled to Kabukicho, Tokyo to film a new documentary series comparing real-life Kabukicho Tokyo to the fictionalized Kamurocho Tokyo featured in the Yakuza series by Sega.

In 2012, I filmed a documentary series, Yakuza Locations Tour 2012 to celebrate the release of the upcoming Yakuza 5 (Ryu Ga Gotoku 5). The documentary was met with overwhelming positive response from the fans and the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios team.

To celebrate my 5th year anniversary on YouTube, this is my tribute to the Yakuza (龍が如く) franchise and the amazingly talented team at Sega. This video was a labor of love, made by a fan for the fans.

Tune in every Saturday and Sunday for new episodes!

No written script was used in the making of this documentary.

I've created a playlist for all episodes of my weekly Yakuza Locations Tour 2016 (龍が如く : 場所のツアー 2016) series for viewers to catch up on episodes they might have missed.

I actually had a deeper appreciation for LA Noire after living in Hollywood recently, the game is insanely detailed and it looks like the same can be said for Yakuza. I hope I get to visit Japan one day and see these places for myself

This is awesome! Wish I knew about this video series sooner.

Thanks Waddle! Had I remembered that I registered on neogaf, I would have posted my episodes on neogaf every week the day the episodes were uploaded. I've posted these videos on the official SEGA forums, gamefaqs and other gaming forums.

Thanks for doing this, YakuzaArk92.

Now, that's dedication!

When I first visited Kabukicho five years ago, I really felt like I was walking in Kiryu's shoes. The moment I saw 'Matsuya'/Pronto, I was like "OMG, that's in Yakuza! Oh, this is also in Yakuza too! I have to show this to the world!"

I didn't feel lost at all when I was in Kabukicho. I didn't use a map or GPS when filming the documentary. Some of my friends who never played Yakuza were amazed how faithful Kabukicho looked in the series and bought the games just to experience the package. They loved it.

I am walking through kabukicho right now for the third time during my vacation in Tokyo and I am still amazed at how good it is represented in the games (posting from a ramen restaurant :)). The first time we walked through kabukicho, we actually got there by accident and without knowing where we were going and I was literally like "wait....I somehow know this place". It was a neat little moment when it finally clicked and I made the connection :)
Will definitely watch later.

This is pretty damn cool.

Thanks, silva. I was influenced by James Rolfe's Ghostbusters Tour where he and his friend documented locations of where major events of the film took place. I figured I'd pay homage to the Yakuza series by documenting locations that had a significance in the story or landmarks that were the exact same.

YES! That was exactly how I felt the moment I stepped foot in Tokyo. I was like, "wait a minute...that's Matsuya, that's Pronto, that's the neon sign! That's Don Quijote!"

Much appreciated, Flousan.

This is a really awesome series, thanks so much for doing this

Watch out for Mr Shakedown

Much appreciated, JohnMatrix. I'm glad I was able to share Tokyo from a Yakuza fan's perspective and also for those who don't get a chance to experience Tokyo for themselves.

You know what, I didn't run into any Mr Shakedowns during my visit but I did encounter some 'Rich Bastards' (ala. Yakuza 4, 5) with the fancy silver suits. They were promoting hostess clubs. They weren't looking for a fight.

Its almost surreal like playing a shitload of yakuza, then watching this lol

Yeah I think that's just a major coincidence. The Gindaco Takoyaki episode was released on Kiryu's birthday and the Finale of the Locations Tour series ended a week before Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios announced their upcoming titles and ten days before the Western release of Kiwami. Hope you enjoyed the series, matrixman!

Thanks to the OP and your work, i've added it to my watch later list.

Also try to use the multi-quote function. ;)

Great work, watching it tonight!
Cheers

Much appreciated, Brutus!

This is awesome. Bookmarking thread.

Thanks Alexander!

Amazing work. Will watch when I'm back home.

Thanks, Kris!

No theme song playing on a loop in the real Don Quijote? Sometimes it's better not to know the truth I guess.

I know right? I would imagine the employees will go insane if the jingle loops 24 hours. Also, in Yakuza 1 & 2 upon entering Don Quijote multiple times, the theme/jingle will play in English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese. It's a fun little easter egg.

Thanks deimos! Yeah, I'm still getting the hang of Neogaf forums. I just found the multi-quote function. Apologies for the barrage of posts.

This is awesome. I even showed it to some friends who might be interested in it.

Thanks, KrazyAmmo! I showed my videos to friends who never played Yakuza and immediately got them hooked. They've played 4, Dead Souls, 5, Zero and Kiwami so far but they're looking forward to 6 and Kiwami 2.
