BioWare Apologizes for Mass Effect: Deception Errors [Comic: Chapter 16 - Complete]

3. Biotics are suddenly classified by their power level - There are continual references to people being “Level One”, “Level Two” and “Level Three” biotics, “Three” supposedly being the strongest. There is no such classification scheme, and it appears to result from confusing the implant designations (e.g. L2 and L3) with an individual’s intrinsic potential. This error is compounded by the fact that, in ME1, it is mentioned that those with L2s can sometimes get better results than those with the newer L3 series, as L2s allow the biotic to "spike higher." [Error: Technology]

Power levels!

I loved the rage comic by the way, way more well done than your average rage comic.
But it would've been better as a real comic.

In reading the rage comic, I realize Bioware have it made. Their fans will buy ANYTHING. Sure, they might bitch, but not only will the fans by it, either saying it can't be that bad or wanting to see just how bad it is, but they'll buy it AGAIN with corrections! They should just raid the lapsed copyright novels, change a few names and throw in some space gibberish, and release them as brand new novels. I was going to say they should pay someone cheap for their fan fiction, but they obviously already thought of that.

Will drop pants for Sony.
Can't believe how screwed up this book is. Don't know why Drew Karpshyn didn't just write it. Even the Bioware books are buggy now.

Ice Cold. I like the mass effect books but I am glad I didn't buy the newest one. I guess everyone that bought the digital copy will have it fixed.

Thats alot of assumptions

I absolutely hate piling on authors, especially working schlubs that don't get paid nearly enough to write a full novel in 6 months, but Dietz has a history of this, his writing is an affront to the profession, and Mass Effect deserves better.

Absolutely a shame on Bioware as well, Casey Hudson, their marketing arm that handles publishing and outsourced material, et al. Proofread your shit.

Holy shit, is this for real?

fake edit: read the wikipedia entry for it, YEP.

Not like the Karpyshyn novels are any good.

Hes a bland writer (boring tone), but he is far more consistent since he was actually involved in creating much of the universe background, and tells a cohesive story. Dietz just is a total mess and always inconsistent.

Gillian's autism was completely disregarded in Deception with no explanation. I used Doc Brown to show what I believe happened to her autism (and her sudden and impossible aging of 3 years to coincide with the book's timeline).

I read through that Google doc and it seems like A LOT of things need to be changed. Will they actually be able to correct the errors without massive changes to the overall story? I feel bad for everyone with the first edition, you get essentially a buggy product with no recompense.

The first edition is really so bad on every conceivable level that I'm actually glad I own it. It's pretty hilarious and is great for making a rage comic series.

In the end, it'll probably be the most overall memorable book in the series (at least to me) because of just how awful every aspect of it happens to be.

here, let's try this

>>lol at people eating hamburgers made at mcdonalds

<<Why does it matter? A hamburger is a hamburger regardless of who makes it.
Terrible analogy.

Movies can be based on a terrible book and still be good. Why can't the opposite be true? The Witcher was a book made into a game. If the Witcher books are terrible, does that mean the game is terrible? And vice versa? No.

the analogy refers more to the general level of quality in game adaptation books than the inherent nature of adaptations. It is not a logical consequence but rather a practical reality that video game novels are pretty bad. Macdonalds could make a good burger but they don't. That's the practical reality I'm speaking to.

If a story is enjoyable or not is completely subjective, so what is the "lol" part referring to? Just wondering. The same goes with McD burgers, if people enjoy them, what is the "lol" referring to? Is it because McD burgers arent healthy? If so, at least there you have something objective to refer to, that cant be said if someone enjoys a story or not.

they never should have had anyone but Drew Karpyshyn write a Mass Effect novel in the first place

Which is sort of ironic because apparently that Revan novel he did is almost as bad as this. Not as many actual mistakes, but lots of plot holes and pretending kotor 2 didn't exist, stuff like that.

I guess the answer is to take the 2 series and trade authors?

well it helps that Drew was the creator of the Mass Effect universe to begin with given he wrote the first game

though it's odd the Revan novel was so bad since he was also the writer of KOTOR 1 (and helped write the storylines for SWTOR which so far have been pretty awesome)

By the writer of Halo: Flood? That book is the worst video game book I've ever read, and I've read some Tomb Raider books...

There really wasn't much in the sense of plot holes, the whining of the Revan novel is from those claiming that he pretended that KOTOR 2 didn't exist, yet that is completely not true.

I think most of the complaints is his walking back some of the complexity and shades of grey found in KOTOR2.

Pretty much none of the actual content of KOTOR 2 is gone over or changed, they basically summarized that it happened, and just moved on with a completely unrelated story which ties into the TOR MMO

The bowl of cereal has had me crying with laughter. That's the funniest thing I've read in a while. I can't believe that was in the book. Now I have to read that passage. Who in their right mind would break into a person's home to eat a bowl of cereal?
