"Big Boss wants you!" - Kojima Prod hiring at GDC 2012 for "The Next MGS" (cons/PC)

Meh. After MGS4, which I still liked but wasn't really satisfied with, I don't really care about MGS anymore. Portable Ops was terrible and PW's controls made sure I stayed far away from it, even if I had been as crazy about MGS as I used to be.

Yes, MGS3 was awesome. Yes, Big Boss was great. But WHY would anybody want the events between 3 and MG1 fleshed out even MORE at this point when they just heap more and more stupid onto the pile of bad ideas? I mean Null, come ON. Way to ruin Gray Fox. Some things should be left mysterious or at least partially open to interpretation, not: Here is what happened, there we're even MORE superhumans and giant mechs involved! Rex is not special at all! Who cares?

Gameplay has gotten stale as well.

Instead of more of the same they could create so many great AND fresh experiences. Playing Liquid/Snake/Sniper Wolf as a soldier in a game that starts out as brutal as the opening of Saving Private Ryan to show why war is bad, turning into a more Metal Gear-y game later after BB shows up to recruit could be interesting. A team based game with Foxhound. I don't know. Hell, MGA 1+2 was so refreshing compared to Metal Gear SOLID that they could make a sports game for all I care.

maybe it will be a 3d remake of metal gear. might explain the quotes around next, and would let it still focus on solid snake/big boss.

More MGS is always a good thing but what about the MGS Kojima outlined in OPM about The Boss in Normandy with her Cobra unit.

Disappointed the game probably won't be out for a while though, they've got Project Ogre to finish.

At first I thought I'd be in favor of that, but then I realized they'd probably bungle it and ruin the mystique of what they did.

And we'd probably learn that The Boss was actually not that cool and was instead taught by someone called Mid-Boss, who was actually the real badass, and The Boss was just manipulated all along, because Kojima can only write one arc for his protagonists.

I want Metal Gear Liquid. Maybe make it a spin-off, it doesn't have to be MGS5.

I have to ask what is so great about Liquid?
I remember he was pretty pathetic in MGS apart from being amazingly resilient. Personally if we're talking about MGS characters, I would much rather play out the events that earned Gray Fox his code name, which made him the only member of Fox Hound to have 'Fox' in his name.

Avatar up for grabs ;-) Love the new "Diamond Dogs" logo.

Can't wait to play this game when is finished in 2020, the yearly E3 trailers showing highly cinematic cut-scenes would make the wait more bearable...

The people that get the job are living my dream.

You can apply, just make sure to emphasize that you really don't care about a low salary and you already said goodbye to your weekends because you love to work 7 days a week and do extra hours.

as much as i love mgs (and i really do), they should give the franchise a break.

IMO it doesn't need to take a break necessarily, but they do need to do something fresh with it. I hope it does take place earlier like MGS3 did, because that allows them to ignore most of the way too convoluted backstory.

Anyway, great to see it coming back to PC.

I agree. As long as the story is ironed out and new heights are reached with gameplay and graphics then I have no real issue with another MGS.

Though like someone noted, I was hoping for a Liquid series of games. It'd seem easier to branch off the already established story as opposed to fleshing out the prequel events. I'll take what I can get though, hopefully we aren't hit with another Metal Gear Rising fiasco where Kojima all but gives up on the game.

Three years isn't a lot. That team have been very consistent in quality and releases really.

98 - MGS1
01 - MGS2
04 - MGS3
08 - MGS4
10 - MGS:pW

If we get MGS5 next year, that's very consistent really.

I'm fine with another one so soon (although I haven't really played PW yet), but I really want to see that team do something different. Seemingly no one else in that office has the stones take the series, maybe someone in the West can.

As exciting as it is to have Platinum making Rising, it's embarrassing KojiPro couldn't handle it in house.

4 year gap between 3 and 4 was during the switchover from PS2 to PS3. Can see it being another 4 years between PW and 5 - 2014

You think MGS5 is for PS480?

They've spent years making an engine they aren't licensing for PS3, 360, PC and PSV, why would they do that if MGS5 wasn't coming to those platforms?

I dont really know. I just don't think MGS5 can be *that* far into development. I assume the Fox Engine is finished and all KojiPro devs are working on 5. If that's the case, then late 2013/this Gen us very possible.
I had forgotten the Fox Engine has been in development for at least two years.
I assumed Fox Engine would be upscalable for next gen as it seems a waste to make an engine from scratch for one game at the end of a Gen.

kind of hard to tell what kind of dog that is in the drawing but its MGS so I give it a 100% chance its a foxhound

I think it's a Rhodesian Ridgeback.

From wiki : The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a dog breed developed in Southern Africa, where it was used to hunt lions. This is most likely why this dog is known for its bravery

Zimbabwe? The locales will be gorgeous.

Rhodesian Civil War (1964 - 1979)
The war in which Frank Jaeger, now fighting alongside Big Boss, killed a young Rhodesian girls parents. He would claim her as his sister and raise her. Of course this is Naomi Hunter

And Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker hinted at Big Boss' next HQ being located "near Angola", too, so Africa does seem quite likely overall...

Nice detective work with the dog breed.
Guess we know when/where the game will take place now. Unless it's a KJP bait and switch.

"Diamond Dogs" is also an obvious pointer to an African setting, along with what we've seen from the FOX ENGINE demos so far. I bet the game will likely have something to do with the diamond industry in Africa.

And all of the above theory sits nicely and is supported by the terrain and dog in these two images from the first page.

Maybe that dog is the same dog we see in the concept art. Maybe Big Boss inherits it or something. I am too hyped already, I really should have learned my lesson from MGS4. Not because I was let down by it, I really liked it. But by getting aboard the hype train like 4 years too early. It was a long wait.

In my opinion the best way to close this out would indeed be a remake of MG/MG2. It would perfectly illustrate the end of Big Boss and the beginning of Sold Snake, rounding out the canon loop, since we've already seen the opposite of both.

If it's not that though, and something in-between PW and MG1, I could see it being a game about BB beginning to run FOXHOUND while running Outer Heaven behind the scenes with Grey Fox has his central protege.

Either way, Africa is likely as a setting.

Also, if Koji Pro is developing this, it's likely going to be on the FOX engine, which we already know is compatible with PC development (maybe FOX will have English documentation?).

Yoji's drawing a Young Solid Snake

AmPrdWvCIAE9tQj.jpg

Thats new isn't it?

kinda weird how Kojima has dropped this about the same time he announced MGS3 last gen.
it's like Kojima kicks off the generation with Solid Snake game & finishes with a Snake (Big Boss) game

was Solid Snake active at all before MG?
I mean could MGS5 be split like MGS2 was, Big Boss/ Young Snake?
could be a good prologue for MG1/2 remake

Imagine if at the end you (Big Boss) fights a young Solid Snake, and you can't win? Oh man.
If there's a can of hairspray laying around you'd be fucked. If there's one thing I'd like Kojima to retcon it's that.

I'd actually love to see a Gray Fox/Frank Jaeger sides with Big Boss origin story if this is actually set in Africa. I've never played Portable OPS, so I don't know if this has been retconned already.

He was somewhat of a major plot point in Metal Gear 1. He was a major character in Metal Gear 2. Yet, I'd wager, most people only know him as the cyborg ninja in MGS1.

I still think you gonna play as a child soldier or something to do with as Kojima said that he was going to do something that would freak out

Why doesn't Kojima just go with his original plan of having MGS5 star The Boss? That's what all MGS fans want. Yes, ALL of them.

Also, I think I'm going to attend GDC and personally make sure that no Westerners get anywhere near Koji Pro. Maybe I will lure them away with porno mags placed on the floor.

There's already quite a lot of non-Japanese people working at KP, and I assume that if the California studio goes ahead it will be made up of mostly westerners too.

So is there any chance MGS5 or whatever this is releases on current gen consoles?

Well considering that all the open Programmer jobs want people who have "previous professional experience with game development for PC and consoles such as PS3 or Xbox 360", I think it's a safe bet.
