Manga News/Discussion |OTD| Oh, you're reading manga? How cute...

We Can't Study Ch1: In all honesty.... this wasn't awful, wasn't amazing either but you know aim low. If this carries on as a rom-com with emphasis on comedy this could be fun, otherwise I see it running for about 230 chapters, spawning countless spin-offs, sequels and a anime, utterly disappointing everyone in the process.

Man, guess I was super wrong. Sesuji wo Pin getting axed makes me sad in my facial area.

Promised Neverland 25

JESUS CHRIST. Mama being upfront threw them completely off their game so when they finally come to a decision and Emma tries to stall Mama they completely misread her and she delves down to COMPLETE SAVAGERY. Holy shit, I knew that Mama would pull out something considering no matter how competent the kids are we forget that Mama is just a grown-up version of a child at peak physical and mental intelligence but the swiftness with which she just broke Emma was absolutely harsh. And her face when she did it, what she was saying...was so horrifying. That panel where she says she will do anything to protect them and it reflects Norman's scared face in her eye was straight up terrifying.

Like damn. What the fuck do they do now with Norman so close to danger?

Black General 30

Oh man, Leader's chuuni exclamation about having to take a shit was hilarious. Other than that, not an amazing chapter. Honestly, Leader and Secretary are my least favorite characters and their shenanigans are my least favorite shenanigans. I'm also and never have been a fan of the "super high and might jerk falls in love with person because they treat them like shit" trope and though Rose's design is neat, I wish all the other leaders had full designs too. Needed more shenanigans involving the actual villain alliance/information on heroes than Rose stuff with Secretary.

Danberu nan Kiro Moteru? 14

Kinda boring chapter though the close-up being unnecessary was funny and the manga still keeps crushing kryptonite directly into my face with all the underboob. Her getting DQed was the only way this was gonna end.

Tejina Senpai 43

Yawn. Kinda...boring.

World's End Harem 17

Why am I still reading this.

Karen's plan is pretty obvious, but generally speaking, she seems like the only competent supervisor in this whole fucking establishment. This dude is also significantly more interesting than the MC and his stupid fucking face and plan so maybe I'm still reading because they changed focus and now it's about this kid. Having a bullied, shy and never popular kid finally achieve his love with the only person he liked and ever liked him vs. being thrust into a situation where he now has the attention of every girl he sees is a much more interesting dynamic than every other guy in this manga. I mean, we know he's going to be weak-willed and ruin everything but I'm also curious if any of the girls are being false in their interest.

That paragraph is more than the manga deserves honestly.

Tomo 497

No, go back to the progression and thoughts! We didn't get Carol's thoughts!

We Can't Study! 01

Wait, is this one of the new Shonen Jump thingies? I'm so bad at knowing this shit. Or having a memory. Who are all you people?! Get out of my house!

So we have another "ordinary dude works hard but is effortlessly beaten by geniuses who don't even try" trying to get into a special program that will pay for his college tuition. Him being poor is pretty obvious but a nice way to empathize (if a bit...well...obvious) which is probably gonna make it so much more frustrating with the genius shit, which Japan sure is fucking terrible at. You create empathy and then hard work never actually wins. Like people were talking about before, what's like one of the only manga to actually do that trope and have all the hard work pay off? History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi. And when you have a manga of that level being one of your impressive outliers, you done fucked it up Japan.

And I kinda saw the twist coming, that both of them would choose the complete opposite of what they are geniuses in otherwise why would they need a tutor? Their reactions are pretty damn funny though, from the Math Genius' huffing and puffing and the Liberal Arts Genius' embarassed self-esteem falling.

Tying back to his friend saying he's good at helping others and why he doesn't have a girlfriend was nice.

Nothing about this really stood out too much, and the premise is kinda whatever, but the execution is alright and the art is fine so...I guess I'll follow it til it gets axed if it doesn't start doing anything interesting.

Dude who wrote Espirit did write it though so maybe I'm coasting by on that? Espirit was fun, but it sure was rushed and a mess.

Since this has started getting translated, I thought it was as good a time as any to put it out there that a porn manga made me ask why?
I've seen the events unfolding before and now I see them unfolding complete with understandable text and I still ask myself why?
I get the feeling that once everything is fully translated I'll still ask myself why?, because shit makes no sense. It makes no sense why anyone would go along with all that bullshit.

At least the art is nice, but given the bullying setting complete with weak ass characters and what obviously happens in a porn manga, the semi serious setting only works in making the story not appealing and more enraging than anything else, for me.

Promised Neverland Ch25: Whoever had those spoilers must of been high on something.. (or just plain lying). Another amazing chapter, loving the facade being torn away here and the end just made me want to have more!

Shh don't let Conan know he rage quit off bogus rumors

Got a link to those fake spoilers?

Just to clarify, the leak was mostly right, clearly someone posted them by seeing the raws. But they got some of the details wrong.

I like the idea of the genius trio, though I dont know what ogata has to gain from it. The swift thrust of making it a potential romance felt odd and out of place just as much as the random shower scene in the last pages, where did it even come from.

Will keep reading if it continues to have math and word problems.

Discussion on MHA's anime boost.

Vol. 6 did 267K when it fell off Oricon in November, 2015. It proceeded to sell 426K in 2016.

Vol. 7 sold 650K in 2016, and Vol. 8 onwards have done similarly. So the immediate anime boost was around ~400Kish we might say.

We Never Learn 1

I'll admit I was fairly surprised by this, I'm not really a fan of rom coms but at least 1 chapter in I'm interested enough to read more.

The premise is that our lead Naruyuki is not a very talented guy but spends all his time studying to get great grades while being jealous of two genius girls in his school who are exceptionally gifted at science/math and literature respectively. Our lead is given the opportunity to be this vip graduate which'll cement his fiscal future (which he needs since his family is poor and his dad died awhile ago) if he can get the two genius girls into the college of their dreams. The problem is both girls want to go to colleges that are opposite of what they're skill is, and they're completely inept in the field they want to go into.

What I really like about this chapter is that all 3 of our leads are likeable characters and the romcom elements are really downplayed until the end and even then all 3 are at stage 0 in the world of romcom (they don't crush on each other, but admire the other enough to blush thinking oh he/she is actually cute). The story at least 1 chapter in is focused first on the characters, their goals, and their personal struggles and not an excuse for will they/won't they and which girl will he choose nonsense.

My only concern was the chapter felt the need to throw in a sex joke towards the end which in of itself wouldn't bother me, but its instantly followed up with lewd shots of both girls bathing and thinking about the lead since he's the first tutor to not give up on them and how he's someone they'll need to remember his name.

I'll reserve judgement until the end of the jumpstart run since this can quickly descend into harem hijinx and start to suck, but at least 1 chapter in I wouldn't be angry if Viz picked this up and it survived for awhile in Jump.

Owari no Serafu 54

Well Guren and Shinya and co will have a really bad end if its true that they only have 10 years to live (assuming Shinya and others actually did die), and he wont even know he had died before. I wonder if Shinya found a way to thwart that. I do wonder how it will be tied in to Yuu and co.

And for Yuu and co, very funny chapter.

Eeeeeh. Boring and predictable, art ain't too good either and I don't really see much potential.
And the forced shower panels out of left field didn't help.
Will give it a few chapters.

Food Wars

The writing staff have finally topped themselves with knowing what we want and did in a way that was just about dialogue free reaching the highest levels of character understanding and interaction thus far. The whole time Taku communicating his deep feelings to Soma and getting him so fired up, all those faces and looks and emotions flowing between them. I can only imagine the endless interactions they had off panel. This the best chapter in months or even a year.

Look at SoTaku, even the way they are looking and communicating.

The humiliation part was intriguing, I kind of wish it was shown after that arc though I dont know where they had put it. His frustrations must have been deeper than just saying humiliating endlessly. Though surely he could have been somewhat grateful for Yukihira getting it back, but I can see why one would feel bad about being inadequate enough to earn what they lost themselves back. Terrible.

I found this surprisingly enjoyable. I though it did a good job setting up the premise and introducing the characters and I liked how it didn't focus much on the romcam aspects.
I'm only a little wary because this can easily descend into garbage and I need a couple more chapters to form a proper opinion of it.

BatDan

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
We Never Learn

Meh, not really much for romcom manga. I guess it might fill the Nisekoi void.
1 premiere down, 5 to go.

RWBY was only 8 pages not including the cover. How did Ultra Jump allow this? The same magazine that runs Jojo too. The art is almost scribbles too. Not Togashi scribbles but it looks unfinished.

This is how I feel. I enjoyed the set up with the characters, and it was a pleasant read. The shower scene was pretty wut though and felt too shoe-horned in.

Hopefully this will do until Naoshi Komi makes his glorious return.

This too. The sex joke was fine, the lewd shots were too far out there and could have had the name plot point pushed in some other way.

The Promised Neverland

Norman? Not Emma, what? The writing is collapsing fast.

That was ok, but not something I would continue reading if it wasn't in jump.

RWBY

Did we really get a 7 page chapter?

Serpah of the END

I would have hoped that have seen some of these moments in the LN first, but damnnnnn

Yuichiro still an amazing MC! And Ferid is the best of Trolls.

The rest of JUMP was ok to cool. I ain't much a fan of Promised Neverland, but it's cool.

Noragami Ch73: Nice and quaint side chapter, not really progressing the plot too much but doing a great job of not only fleshing out some quirky side characters but also setting up everyone's thoughts, plans, fears about 'A god's greatest secret'.

Dolls Ch70-77: Not sure why but this progression of plot has been somewhat disappointing and flat so far. Everything is quite textbook and has no major flaws but it never really grips me as much as the earlier chapters did. Though I will admit the 'shadowy council' seem to be an interesting aspect to me so far, mainly due to how little we've seen of them.

Sesuji wo Pin 79+80

This manga was too good for Garbage Jump.

Like, seriously, Sakamoto is the best villain because as it explained in this chapter he just wants everyone to be on the same level as him so that they can have as much fun as he does and he'll do it even if it destroys everyone.

Break out that jive~

I didn't expect much and didn't get much so...better than expected? I agree with if this wasn't a new jump thing, I wouldn't read it.

Just realized I was 3rd on the wall of shame even after being banned for a week and in Japan for a week and a half.

Fuck my life.
