Persona Community Thread |OT9| SPOILER TAGS OR DIE

Y'all sound down, damn. Time to move on to the superior Conception 2 fanbase.

I'm not tired of the current formula yet, I just think it needs some adjustments. Specially the whole Social Link system which is due for a reinvention. Still a lot of things they can do with Persona if they don't limit themselves to tradition too much. Then again, as long as they keep the essence of the series alive (urban-fantasy character centric narratives with megaten gameplay) they can change whatever they want and I'll still be there for the next installment. Just keep the turn-based battles, that's all I ask. As for Hashino's new project, I'm still waiting on some concrete information before deciding whether to be excited or not.

I mean compare this thread's activity to before the game came out? We burned through so many goddamn OT's, but OT9 is a year old!

We had 3 OTs and a Waifu OT for P5, does that not count

I find myself wanting an updated version of Persona 5 more than anything, to be honest. I really do think it's probably my favorite installment, and yet it has a handful of weird issues regarding pacing and dungeon length in the later half that hurt it.

I wouldn't necessarily say I feel "done" with Persona, but I'm definitely still full from P5. As much as this is my favorite series of all time, I wouldn't mind this being the final entry or not getting another for many years. I think a change in direction is what the series would need going forward, as much as I love what Hashino and his team have created. I could be hungry for more some time down the line, though.

Leading up to P5 sure, but this thread's activity wasn't too high post release. You'd think we'd be constantly talking about every aspect of P5...

etrian odyssey (and Pq) is so fucking boring though

If EO is boring then just about every gameplay-focused RPG is unplayable.

Yeah, wait a few years and then maybe do a new installment with a different direction. Meanwhile we get Hashino's Re:Fantasy and whatever Persona 5 spinoffs/rereleases they come out with.

Oh, there's the P5 anime too >.>

Post count is going to be lower on the community thread when you got discussions split between Confidants OT, OT1/2/3, Spoiler Thread and the occasional one-off topic. Things have settled down lately because there's really not much that hasn't been discussed to death at this point.

Which reminds me I'm bummed out about the lack of in-depth analysis and videos about not just Persona but Megaten in general. A Matthewmattosis/SuperBunnyHop/Boss Keys level analysis. The closest I've ever found was this one, but it's still ongoing and it doesn't focus quite as much as I'd like on really dissecting every aspect of the game other than narrative (at least so far, he did say he would focus on it more as it went on).

I dont mind if Persona 6 coming around 2022 or 2023 or way later , only reason why i want to see it sooner is because im too curious to see what kind of direction this series is gonna take without Hashino and the changes that can bring.

But right now i think we are full of things to look forward : P5 anime , p5 spinoff , p3 spinoff , PQ2 , whatever happen to persona in that Blazblue game.

Plus SMT V , Strange Journey Redux , Fantasy Studio Zero game , Maybe other Catherine type game... etc etc.

Persona 6 is not necessary rn , give it a couple of years , but is gonna be interesting to see when Atlus decided to move into it.

Honestly, I'm genuinely curious as to what another lead will do with P6. No way to tell whether the changing of the guard will be refreshing or if it'll be reduced to a derivative list of bullet points.

I've been thinking about it and now I'm legit wondering how the comparatively normal Persona cast is going to interact with the over the top insanity that is the Blazblue and RWBY cast.

I'm going to facepalm so hard if P6 has another animal mascot that wants to become human and has a 2nd navigator that you get halfway through the game :/

I've wanted to do something like that for a few years now, particularly with the PS2-era Megaten games. However, I don't have any recording software to get footage from nor enough knowledge of the myths those games use to figure out the minutiae of their symbolism.

So things from 3,4 & 5 i dont want in 6... let see.

-No more transfer student stuff.
-Drop the high school (year 1,2,3) gimmick , i will love to see "real" adults or college students made it into the party.
-First dungeon not be a
castle
somehow connected to the
agi
user of the team.
-Makoto and Mitsuru are great but not more Miss Student Council President.
-Miss Student Council President is the only one who cares about studying
-There other ways to do a "mascot" character , no more animals pls.
-We get it Atlus the
police
is corrupt and useless but no more
bad guys with a badge
coming from that please.
-Make the "bro" character normal around women , no more losers who cant get even a date with a random npc just for comedy meanwhile the MC hits everything it moves.

And a lot more i dont remember right now.

Alternately, give us ANY character who can get a date with a random NPC.

Bonus points if said NPC doesn't get fridged.

-No more transfer student stuff. This doesn't bother me. It's nice to get to know the characters as the MC.
The alternative is a lot of "remember when" conversations.

-Drop the high school (year 1,2,3) gimmick , i will love to see "real" adults or college students made it into the party. at least of drinking age, yes
-First dungeon not be a
castle
somehow connected to the
agi
user of the team. This is a great trope. They should keep it. It is also always the
Lovers
confidant and prime candidate for best girl.

-Makoto and Mitsuru are great but not more Miss Student Council President. But but Makato
-Miss Student Council President is the only one who cares about studying Realistic :p
-There other ways to do a "mascot" character , no more animals pls. The next one is a bird!
-We get it Atlus the
police
is corrupt and useless but no more
bad guys with a badge
coming from that please. Agreed
-Make the "bro" character normal around women , no more losers who cant get even a date with a random npc just for comedy meanwhile the MC hits everything it moves.
I lol'd at the break of character emersion by Ryuji suggesting 'we can't get any girls' after just romancing Ann. This is another thing, though more work, to acknowledge relationships in the main story.

And a lot more i dont remember right now.

I added my opinion to it. Would want to add that I liked the (P5 sixth palace spoiler)
casino gimmick
. I would like if they added some more non standard dungeons with a bit harder puzzles.

In the end though there is a clear progression per game, as I would say P3<P4<P5. Storywise each game has it strengths and weaknesses. I think any game series will always have some tropes in it. Part of those define the game.

sooooooooo......i finally got around to finishing P5. wasnt expecting a 105 hour game. i didn't know about the Christmas bonus and went with Takemi since she was first girl. i'm thinking about replay the end section and change the Christmas bonus gift. my options are:

Takemi
Kawakami
Hifumi
Haru
Futaba
Makoto

Thinking about doing Hifumi to speed rank her S-Link (C-link?), but is there a best one out of those choices?

Also, can I sell any of my shit on 3/19?

What I want from P6: an actual "drunk with friends" scene.
Nah, real talk, I wouldn't mind less romantic options if it meant more effort towards integrating them more organically in the narrative. I know Joker is suave as fuck so he can date anything that moves, but let's take a step back on the next game shall we.
I also want SLinks to feel more like I'm actually hanging out with a friend and being "myself" instead of constantly worrying about "hmm which of these options will make you like me more" like some desperately clingy preteen. Maybe develop SLinks differently based on your choices so there's more incentive for replays. Also, for party members save the actual character development for the narrative. Make the slinks more about getting to know other sides of their characters and getting battle bonuses.

I played some of P3 back in 2012, but never got really far. I was in second block after the first full moon operation.

A few weeks ago I decided to start it again, and now I am much further along. Last night I got into the third block, so about to go on the beach trip. I found out the hard way how restrictive this game is on Social Links with female characters...why do they do that? Really frustrating that I can't progress in the other ones until I max out Yuko, granted I am almost there.

Some spoilery stuff:
Does it ever get explained if people can see if something was messed with in the real world during the Dark Hour? For example, you have to break the mirrors in the love hotel. Can the people in the coffins in those rooms see that? Does this eventually get explained? I would think it would since they did answer my question of "What happens if they just stay in the school at midnight?" when they went to rescue Fuuka.

They answer your spoiler after the first full moon operation:
Ikutsuki jokes about there being trouble on the monorail, but how that was none of their business. People in the coffins don't notice the changes as they happen, but they definitely see the damage in the real world if applicable.

I completely forgot about that, I guess that makes sense. I feel like they should take that idea and run with it though, at least I hope they do:
If they have to get something from the real world that they can't normally get, do it during the Dark Hour.

I kinda liked how there was a scene that shows too many waifus will ruin your laifu.

Also the fact that there were multiple scenes that integragted you max s-links as opposed to just the one scene at the end.

This was something that really confused me when I watched the second P3 movie. P3 7/7 spoilers:
When they fight the Hierophant and Lovers shadows in the love hotel, numerous walls and floors get destroyed, and I think some coffins get knocked over too, none of which happens in the game. How do the people outside of the Dark Hour see that? Do they just see a huge chunk of the wall instantly disappear? What about the coffins that get thrown around? The movie doesn't explain any of this and just moves on like nothing happened, lol.

It's either that or the damage slowly fades into existence, (P5 SPOILERS)
like the thieves do in Goro's blackmail photos
, which is even more jarring! XD

Yeah, either way it would probably be pretty terrifying to witness. Imagine just seeing a chunk of your wall vanish out of nowhere, haha

There are some other little things like that in P3 that bother me. Like
Strega's ability to pull people into the Dark Hour for their revenge request business. I don't think it's ever explained exactly how they do it
. Maybe we're just not meant to think about this stuff too hard.

It's kind of implied
that messing with a coffin can pull someone into the Dark Hour. But it's never really clarified upon as SEES has no reason to ever do this.
