WindowsCentral: Xbox One X Amazon pre-orders surpass PS4 Pro YTD for 2017

First noticed by Niko Partners Analyst Daniel Ahmad, the Xbox One X is already on-pace to beat the PS4 Pro on Amazon for 2017, despite the PS4 Pro being on sale for the entirety of the year, vs. the few days since the Xbox One X pre-orders got announced.

Xbox One X pre orders seem to be doing well on Amazon. Already ahead of PS4 Pro on Amazon US for 2017 YTD. pic.twitter.com/qarehlgvNS

Sales success on Amazon US is a pretty good indicator that other retailers are seeing similar figures, and while this still doesn't give us any indication on actual sales figures, it does show that the Xbox One X is off to a roaring start. Reportedly, roughly 20% of current PlayStation 4 sales are of the suped-up "Pro" edition, which powers resolutions above HD, occasionally reaching 4K. The Xbox One X offers 50% more power to help developers hit 4K resolutions more often, while throwing in other graphics enhancements such as improved draw distances, textures, and much more.

How many of those preorders will be canceled? You can preorder anything on Amazon risk free. Comparing preorders to sales is a mistake.

PS4 Pro was new in 2016 and Xbox One X is new in 2017. Makes sense XBX would be higher for this year specifically.

Not at all 8 months of sales VS 30 minutes. Especially against the complete dominate market leader. Very shocking and impressive shows the early reveal paid off in big time.

They are far from dominate in the US. Or are we talking worldwide preorders vs pro sales?

This is good! Scorpio is well put together and deserves the success. Nov - Jan sales will be interesting. Ultimately I'll wait for our resident NPD specialist Mr. Piscatella to comment!
Two threads in less then 5 minutes. I know some of fanboys have been edging for 3 years to post this. Must be an amazing release lol!

Its a good result and shows that Xbox fans are preordering X in record numbers.

Sure there are caveats(amazon only, US only, preorders only ect), but this indicates demand somewhere and is a lot better of a result than other worse possibilities.

I think that Xbox one X will be a higher ratio of upgraders from XB1 than PS4 people to Pro. Sony has likely seen less of a priority to push Pro than MS for X

I know people want Xbox To have a win but anyone reasonable could have told you it was going to sell well this holiday season. Selling out preorders seemed a given, selling out through the holidays seems a given the real question will be how well its still selling this time next year (and sooner to be fair).

For this year because of Microsoft having limited exclusives this holiday they can spend a lot more money just marketing the system itself instead of a series of games, they'll certainly get their foot in the door to be sure but it remains to be seen what actual staying power the system will ultimately have.

As for the PS4 Pro comparison... I mean yeah the Pro isn't doing that great but Sony also isn't marketing it even remotely like Microsoft has been for the X even since last year. They pretty much just put it out and was like 'well buy it if you want it!' granted I know thats not exactly what they did but you get the point, the Pro hasn't done very well because it doesn't need to, the X DOES need to because a lot more R+D and resources were put into the thing. If the Pro actually needed to sell super well Sony would have done and continued to do a huge marketing push on the thing but they really haven't.

time for Microsoft to unintentionally announce that they don't really need 1st party games in PR language

Well, Sony don't give a flying fuck about the Pro, so....

Like, the X already has surpassed the amount of titles that are enhanced compared to the pro, and its not even out yet.

MS pushed the X extremely hard, while Sony "meeting" put half the audience to sleep.

Do you people believe the shit you type?

I agree. Sony is focusing on the PS4 slim. MS is focusing on the One X. Two different approaches here.

vs 8 months of sales?

Come on, son

I don't have a horse in this race, I was surprised at first but then I realized that it makes sense when I think about it. High demand for a new system plus the window they're looking at. It's a good result.

I think most people still buy the regular PS4.

Also PS4 is a much more global brand and Xbox is only strong in a few markets. US is the strongest Xbox market.

Anyway good sign for the X.

I'm glad the Xbox One X is seemingly selling very well so far. I have my Scorpio Edition preordered from Amazon. I already own a PS4 Pro but I am super excited for a new console...

Either Amazon has a really low share of PS4 Pro's sold compared to market averages, or One X is going to explode on launch day. Being close to 30 places ahead of it in just a few days is something else.

With preorders being so high, I think it's a real possibility that the low Xbox One sales in the last few months was due to people holding off due to the X.

I think the interesting thing to note is PS4 Pro sales according to Sony account for about 20% of PS4 sales. If we knew what the Amazon numbers were for PS4 or better yet Pro sales we could get a sense on what Pro did so far for 2017 and then that would help position the X on Amazon. That all said...this is just one sliver of a big pie.
