Why VR porn is awful. (for women.) (so far.)

Seems like if you combine it with some sort of penetration device it could work, but I think the same holds true for male VR porn. I mean, if it's not immersive or interactive, it's just watching fancy 3D POV porn, innit?

Hm...

You can describe it like that, but its still a strange feeling when you see those girl and your brain thinks you are there and she/he is close to your face. Besides that some studios also use binaural audio to make it even more realistic.

It is kinda scary if you ask me.

And like I said it also depends on the producer. Some use these "giantess", because they dont have a clue what the proper size should be. Some make it well. The best one right now imo are those CzechVR things. The size is right and the video quality is good.

Interesting video.

Is pov porn even a thing for women outside of VR? I've never seen such a thing, and there is a lot of pov porn designed for men. (I don't need to see links I'm just curious if anyone out there has seen anything that would fit that description)

I know that there's "porn for women" but a lot of my female friends mostly resort to fanfiction for titillation because that's actually written by women for women whereas "women porn" is still mostly created with the male in mind. I imagine it's no different or even worse for a niche like VR porn.

Yeah, they can be interactive. But they aren't. These are films, not games.

Yes and when we only talk about films, then there's nothing to talk about. Films will keep being passive experiences. If someone doesn't like that then what is there to do?

The only way to fix this would be interactive 3D experiences. And that means "games".

That's really the main reason why VR is exciting. Watching movies in VR is really not that interesting.

It exists (female POV porn), but it's not really that popular for a myriad of reasons, not the least of which is that while there's a great deal of women that watch porn, there aren't a great deal of women that take the time to search it out.

Yes, but that's still not what these are. Certainly not yet anyway. So why would a thread about VR films go in the Games section?

"I was laying on a bed. A dude that I'm not at all attracted to walks into the room and he just starts doing stuff to my virtual body while I'm just laying there limp."

Couple of things:

1. We all know porn is awful. Did she suddenly expect it to be some honest, genuine and tender revelation? You use that garbage to get off and that's it.

2. "I was laying" ? "I"? It's a fucking video. Not the Matrix.

3. "My virtual body" Idem.

Aiii

So not worth it

You're either missing the whole point of VR, or of POV porn, or are just being contrarian for no good reason.

Well if you want to limit the discussion to VR movies then sure. But I don't know why you'd want to do that.

A discussion of everything related to VR porn would be much more interesting and seems to fit into gaming, as videos are just one subset.

That's not what this is, though. The video is the OP is one woman's experience specifically with VR porn movies, and why that one (there's more out there than this one, and they're not all filmed exactly the same way) didn't work for her. Which is why the discussion has mostly centered around the limitations of VR porn movies (both for women specifically, and in general).

Putting it into games would limit the discussion to VR games only though.

Off Topic has a way broader scope that can include games.

Actually it is totally interesting if someone would make a great VR movie. The small bits from all those Introduction to VR videos are great and a good documentary where someone explains to you about, lets say, hot springs and you sit in one at the same time would be good.
Or some documentary about dangerous roads and you sit in the truck.
Its great, because you can experience that.

There was one part in the Introduction to VR video where you sit in a Mongol hut. Its really great because you can see how it really looks from inside and, if there would be a reporter, he could do an interview with the family while you sit "with them" in their home.

The resolution of current VR headsets just isnt there yet to have such content that would blow away normal people.

Seems to be a common problem, Jeff Gerstmann had the same experience:
https://youtu.be/lnblYkkveE0?t=6m44s

Its a common mistake of NA videos. CzechVR has good scale, VirtualRealPorn also has a realistic scale most of the time, though the videos arent that clear.

For you.
To keep this gaming related [I guess]; what's the situation with Playstation VR and VR porn?

..asking for a friend, of course.
The media player for the PS4 will be compatible with 360 video files. So every porn will be compatible.
No porn games though.

I'm starting to realise that the furry fandom is already doing VR porn WAY better than anything the mainstream studios have cooked up, and they've barely begun...

Look up R2CK: Furry Science sometime. There's some insane attention to detail.

Sounds dumb to me

Freaky sense of scale (when someone is on top of you they are a giant).

Well of course not everyone is the same size, but depends on the porn

Zero interaction built in, feeling of powerlessness.

Yeah, I always complain about that at movies as well, also that's the same for men

It's a subset. And it's arguably larger then the Adult VR games subset at this point. And the video is about about 360 degree (well, technically 180 degree) videos, so that's why I mentioned it.

Truthfully, I think we'll get some level of interactivity in VR videos (something to the level of choose your own adventure that works with gaze tracking) before we get adult VR games that look/act close enough to realistic to be anything more than a niche audience.

I wonder if the user experience is different using a Gear VR (like she says she does in the video). Depending on the software available for the device, the experience could be different.

Usually when I hear people mention the scaling/proportion issues, it's because they're watching a 180-degree 3DVR video in 2D mode, which with a SBS video would wrap each screen around you at 180-degrees, with each eye's video being seamed onto each set of 180-degrees. This goes for all types of 3D videos, not just porn. It's just less noticeable in the other stuff because well, it's usually not people and usually not porn.

- Porn isn't the best quality industry in the first place
- Female porn production are even less considered
- Porn games are a niche targeting male players, with awful western games and better japanese games that never release outside Japan due to US/western laws
- VR games are just at the beginning of their era and there is a lot to do

So did anyone had some expectations for a VR female porn game?
We're decades away from this.

There are perhaps a few too many people who are bothered that this woman is criticizing VR prn for being very male-focused.

I'm lost, what is the point that's being made here? Nothing you said invalidates anything that she said, and she likely understands all of these things. We're as far away from quality VR porn for women because people don't point out how bad it is enough.

The thing is it seems she only tried out videos by one producer.

Let me talk about the points the OP made:

Freaky sense of scale (when someone is on top of you they are a giant).

This depends totally on the producer. Some studios have a real size scale. The ones she tried seems to not have that.

Zero interaction built in, feeling of powerlessness.

This is a valid complaint, but in the end she should realize its a VR video not rendered, but filmed. I could use that complaint with normal movies and say "I am just watching Avengers. Why cant I decide what they will do?"

______________________________________________________

I would also say that right now there is actually a lot of female POV VR porn out. More than normal porn I would say.

I actually wonder what kind of female porn a female would want. The female VR porn right now is "you are the woman, some guy is pleasuring you."

There is no expectation that a film will give you interactivity, but it becomes a problem in this setting when the goal is to put you into a certain situation. For a lot of women - more often than men I would reckon - being in the situation that the video puts them in can be a distressing encounter, so for it to be marketed as pornography for women is not the best idea because it does seem like - in this producer's case anyway - like it was done poorly. It may be an inherent problem with the medium, but at the same time a comparison cannot be drawn to non-VR porn. When you watch porn intended to arouse women, it can be done in a similar fashion to porn intended to arouse men. In this medium though, porn producers will likely have to adapt.

Almost as if people are being a little insecure.

You may have hit the nail on the head there :v

Thank you fro posting this, I thought I would have to get it.

But then talking about porn, my partner isn't a great fan of some of it, but she likes others.

But sense powerlessness is something I have wondered about..

.
who is doing that? I went through the thread again and didn't see anyone saying that?

That porn for women isn't great is well known. I don't see anyone disputing that.

insecure about what? porn?

You don't have to make up fake arguments to make your position look stronger.

She brought this up on Podcast Beyond months ago. Apparently the experience for guys was completely different with more interactivity.

?

When it comes to VR porn movies there is the same lack of interactivity as with VR female porn movies.

There are some hentai games out there that offer some sort of interactivity though, but thats fictional.

Apart from the giant thing, this seems like more of a complaint about POV porn than VR. VR doesn't have to be POV, but most of it is right now because it's just an obvious fit.

I wouldn't be surprised if most people working on VR are male, and are making it for their own tastes/interests, making the female version... not sure what the term would be appropriate, lower quality?
There are not really tastes or interests in VR Porn.
The technology is so limited so far, that there's basically only one thing available, and little else.
Either you like that or you don't, but there's not much wiggle room to produce more creative stuff, when you're so restrained by such a new technology.

They're forced to place the camera a certain way, produce a certain kind of video, and of course can't give you any "agency" because it's a video.

Lately they are experimenting though with "moving cameras" and such stuff though. The thing is that its a new medium and no one really knows how to produce good video content for it.

As you can see some studios dont even know how to do the proportions well while others can. Some studios use badly encoded videos, while others use well ones.

I think it will still take one year or more till the studios know how to produce better video content for VR.
