Just avoid going to the video store and you'll be fine. Oh, and best avoid cat fighting as well (not because of the blatant fan service, just because it really sucks). Else you should be fine, there really isn't anything all that graphic in the game, but a couple of the side stories might raise a few eyebrows:

How to train my dominatrix
The girl selling her underwear
Buying an adult magazine for the kid etc.
I'd say the TelTel club as well, and possibly even the cat fighting.

? I mentioned the cat fighting - my point about it though was that it should be avoided not because of the skimpy women, but because the mini game flat out sucks and shouldn't be played at all unless your going for the platinum trophy! But could point about the TelTel club though, I forgot about that one.

I do understand why this game is a hard sell for western audiences. For all the badassery and fantastic story, the wacky stuff and especially the pervy stuff can be a turnoff. If I'm ever gonna show off this game to my friends I'd make sure to not come across any parts that involve dating sim shit.

None of that is really at the forefront of the western marketing at least. What you see on a surface level, as someone not familiar with the series is a crime story, an open world city, punching people, mostly sport related minigames and punching more people. So consider me still baffled at the series' endless struggles in the west.

Finally just got this after nearly two months of waiting! It's downloading at the moment so I'm unfortunately going to have wait a little longer.

Pretty new to the Yakuza series. I played 5 for a bit last year and had no idea what to do and what was going on so I just dropped it. I'm looking forward to starting at the beginning with this game and I'm hoping I'll end up loving it. Anyway, not long till I can finally play this!

Holy shit at real estates. Dem securities assisting you in battles. Dem application interviews.

It is slow, but it's fantastic for taking on multiple enemies when you put some upgrades into it. There's one boss fight I wouldn't have been able to clear without it. I never noticed weapons getting knocked out of my hands much in Beast style; far less than Brawler style.
I'm still super early in the game so I've upgraded it up to $2 million things but everything else is beyond my price range. I'll keep leveling all styles of course and occasionally trying 'em but I think Brawlers just more my style.

Not feeling having to fetch booze for these bums.
I did that a couple nights ago. Forcing ya to run to 3 different stores was pretty lame. It didn't help that I'm to stupid/lazy to make use of cabs >.>;

So I'm not actually playing this myself (don't have a PS4) but I'm watching GB playthrough it every week - I was hooked after the first story sequence.

I really hope Majima doesn't hurt that blind girl. That would be unforgivable. Can't happen, surely.

No I don't want to read spoilers :p I'll wait. But damn!

Was kinda bummed going back to Kiryu, I'm sure they'll have something interesting.

Majima is awesome.

As Yakuza 5 was a PSN+ free game I made it a point to get it, (even though I haven't been blown away by what I saw of the series before) and my PS3 has had a good workout from it literally! I am on the game like every other day, and I especially upgraded the hard-drive on the console so I could play this game!! (for the first time since I have had the console these past 8-9 years!!)

Maybe not a good point to start in the series but so far it has been more engaging than what I thought it would be....will post more once I have completed the game...

I've clocked in around 150 hours and only at chapter 10 (I think?). Getting greedy with money as far as the real estate and Mr. Shakedown goes.

It's an itch I have to scratch :(

Is there any way to transfer money between Kiryu and Majima? Either at this stage of the game or at the end, because I can't see myself ranting to grind for cash with Majima as well, I just don't like his minigame as much :/

If you've unlocked the distract enemies mechanic for both then you should have transfers possible, the Kiryu one is in Vincint the Majima one should be outside Sunshine.

Is that just the mechanic to "make it rain"? Pretty sure I have them for both, but don't recall seeing any NPCs to allow for transferring.

But doing a quick google, just realised that Vincent is the pool hall I never go into. Should be set now, then! Thanks :)

Yakuza 0 may very well be the first game in the series that I won't beat. (Just got to Chapter 7)

There is nothing inherently wrong with it and I adore the franchise , having even wept like a baby during Y3. I just can't get passed what seems to be slower pacing, long drawn out cutscenes to tell very little story and, the straw that is breaking my camel's back, the mobile mini games (running real estate business) which add absolutely nothing to the experience IMHO. I hated it in mobile games, I hated it in DA: Inquisition and was stunned to find it here.

I find myself playing in 45 minute sessions and still struggling to plow through it. Again, this may be a position on my taste than the game itself but I'm just a tad shocked that I could drop this right now and not feel like I missed on anything.

You don't know what you're missing out on if you do.

The pacing I think picks up considerably by chapter 8, turning into ride that doesn't stop till the game ends.

The earlier chapter certainly feel more drawn out by comparison.

Best to just play it in small spells or take a break from it. I had exactly the issue with Tales of the Borderlands (and that game basically plays itself!). Took me ages to finish it as it just bored me to tears in the early parts. I also believe its worth trying to see the later parts of the game, it rocks but if your not feeling it then its not really worth forcing yourself right now through it for the sake of it.

So none of the events for the gambling king have triggered and I'm at 100% is my game fucked?

Nvm I just needed to progress through the story a little but more

At chapter 15, this game man. Just keeps ramping up. There is no ceiling.

My first Yakuza I've bothered to play. I owned 3 4 and dead souls but never started them before ps4 came out. So I did my bit anyway.

This just blows me away. The story is incredible and it has endless amounts of content.
I'm touching 65 hours with 75% complete. All sub stories done apart from 2 I don't think I can do till after the finale.

Cant wait for kiwami.

I'm torn between this or nier automato on what to play after persona 5.

Both are awesome, really. Nier will take around 40 hours with the side quests and Yakuza 0 can be anything form 20-100 hours depending on how much you want to do in the game.

Flip a coin, you're in for a ride either way

Man, I bought this the day it came out and I'm barely playing it now. Loving the game, it's so game-y and awesome, having a great time with it. My only question is the sub stories, is there no way to tell in game where they're located? I'm in chaptwr 2 and i'm only running into them by luck.

Until Square patches out the issues they introduced with their latest patch and fail to acknowledge them, definitly Yakuza 0.

Not really. If you continue to watch sexy videos, you eventually meet Mr. Libido, he'll tell you where he saw sexy girls, which is pretty much the game's way of telling you there's a substory to be found, but it doesn't apply to all. If you're only in chapter 2 though, quit worrying for now. Substories aren't missable and there's even a post-game mode after you've beaten the story. You'll run into most of them by complete accident as you continue playing.

Right on, that puts my mind at ease. Just going to enjoy the ride and do side content as I run into it. I'll think about using a guide after I'm done with the game.

I believe at some point (possibly through the CP shrine) you can unlock an accessory for Kiryu that marks substories on the map. It's not 100% foolproof, as some substory triggers don't seem to "exist" (and thus don't display on the map) until you enter a location or finish a related substory, but it should help you find the vast majority of the substories without a guide.

But also, yeah, you could just wait for Premium Adventure mode after the story is done to clean up substories anyways.

Playing for 2 1/2 hours now and got to say it is a mixed bag for me. While I love the gameplay, setting and overall style the talking just isn't grabbing me. It somehow bores me a bit and I'm at a point where I even start to skip most of it. The rest of the game is clearly good enough to keep me going so far. Maybe the characters will grab me later on.

Was in the same situation, but the game is clearly better after Chapter 5, just keep going. Btw, mini games like the real estate thing didn't grab me at all.

Honestly, if you don't already love the game after chapter 3's intro, I don't want you to continue the game. >:-(

I found the 5 first chapters really boring, with many goings and comings (
getting alcohol for the homeless men
), and old mechanics (the
escort sequence with Majima at the end of chapter 4
isn't modern at all). I understand It's and old school game, but sometimes It's really blatant.
Sorry if my syntax is bad, I'm not fluent.

you know i've seen a lot of people, not just on GAF, just comments to a lot of news articles in general, of people saying Kiryu should be the first guest character in Tekken 7.

It honestly has the best first chapter I've played in a Yakuza game. It's basically lightning speed compared to Yakuza 3's intro. Chapter 2 is already wide open, so that's a plus too. The homeless quest is basically saying, do some other shit.

Can you actually uppgrade characters to platinum in the hostess game? I err really want to dress up a character, she's gold at rank 20.

Platinum is reserved for porn actresses and Yuki. And besides that, you can't upgrade any hostess to anything, so a silver hostess for example will always remain silver etc.
