So far:

-Game looks and runs way better on PS4 than 1
-Knife kills are a welcome addition
-A couple of things that I assume are Twin Peaks nods, that I appreciated
-Voice acting/dialogue are pretty terrible. I actually liked it in the first game, felt like a B-movie and added to the style. Here it just seems like bad videogame dialogue. A lot of the presentation actually reminds me of Fallout 4 for some reason, particularly NPC conversations

So far the design has been kinda weird. I've just gotten to the point where it'll start opening up but I'm not entirely sure I like how they've changed everything. I guess on a positive note the design overall at least seems more focused than the first game

Something is holding me back from getting this. Just not sold on the streams I've watched. Gotta here more impressions when people are further into the game.

Just finished a one-go 7 hour setting and called it a day, and I donít even play videogames these days (last game I finished was BoTW). Anyway, just dropping my thoughts:

This game feels like they Resident Evil 4ed the original Evil Within, where the first game felt restrictive like Remake, TEW2 feels more ĎArcadyí. Not saying itís terrible Ė Everything that made the original game great is still there, but with a more modern take. I personally like we got this instead of treading on the same ground.

Openworld toke me a while to get used too. At first, I hated it and thought it was out of place but after a while it felt familiar when I knew how it functioned. I just wished there was distinctive look to the indoor aesthetics. Searching for loot became a fun side activity and so is picking side quests via the radio. Game is as hard as the first, which is nice to see that they didnít wuss out with the difficulty.

The story seems to better this time around solely for having a focus. Even though the whole ĎWHERE IS MY DAUGHTER?!Ē can get stale after a couple of hours, itís nice to know you are working towards a goal, and that there are some side characters you could communicate with. A lot of focus on Mobius, STEM, and even Seb himself. Itís nothing groundbreaking, but I like how itís a cheesy relaxing story that is just fun to go through.

So far am liking it a lot, and if it keeps up it would probably surpass the first game.

Haha, but I agree with you. TEW1 has a great, gritty art style. I do wonder if it's the same art lead.

I'm a little scare, 12 hours to finish the game on casual ? (i'll probably play nightmare)

I did beat the first game in like 15 hours, does the side content really add a lot of content ? or it's like 2-3 more hours ? I thought the semi-open world would have made the game a little longer.

The PC ram requirements are so steep. Luckily I'm working with the 32GB of DDR4 3000 ram. But damn, half that gone with just TEW2. Can't wait to play this in awhile!

It's still 9 PM PST / 12 AM EST, when Steam says one hour left it means it's below two hours but over one hour. When it becomes 8 PM PST / 11 PM EST, the timer will change to "less than one hour".

I guess it helps that in the first game it takes place in the mind of a demented killer; in this one, not so much

Usually the atmosphere and art style has more to do with director than art lead, the stricter the director is the better the results. Artist don't get paid more for doing a better job, so director have to be extra picky to bring out the full talent.

Miyazaki (Demon's Souls/Dark Souls/Bloodborne) once said his men must hate working with him, he also said that he is a very anal person, and after playing his games I don't doubt that at all.

The art design, attention to detail and atmosphere are all just incredible, everything in the game feels like they were handcrafted.

Okay, so 4 hours in, playing on normal/survival:

-The side content is pretty good. Gruesome stories with worthwhile rewards both in terms of lore and gear/resources.

-There are lots of bizarre Easter eggs, from outside properties like Twin Peaks to other Bethesda games. I even found Corvo's Mask and a robot dog from Wolfenstein.

-Monster designs are just okay so far, with the average enemies looking pretty bad even compared to their counterparts in the original. This thing was something I really looked forward to fighting after seeing it in previews, but it was pretty lame in practice.

-If you liked how tight, claustrophobic and intense TEW1 was, you'll probably hate the early parts of this game. I've been meandering for hours and love it, but it definitely will rub fans of more linear experiences the wrong way.

My conclusion so far is that TEW2 is a better game than TEW1, but will likely be an inferior horror experience simply due to the increased options and leeway the environments afford to the player. I'd recommend playing on Nightmare if you want to come close to replicating the first game's feel.

Playing with an old 970 and everything on high. I haven't noticed any issues, it's been totally smooth.

Interesting, I wonder if working with Kojima is like this too. So much attention to detail, you have to be meticulous to show that amount of polish.

Ok, hope you're right. Gonna pre-order on PC before the pre-order extras are gone! Running SLI 980s (don't expect SLI to work, so just one 980 performance probably).

*edit* oh wow, looked but didn't see a performance thread. See it now. Sorry for asking here.

yep
He has a very high tendancy to teleport to the middle first and then do the rapid tele each time a little closer to you. I found one corner wall of the room and used it as a buffer always running at full speed, so many times he teleported and he couldn't see me and I couldn't see him. If he said a one liner, I knew he was throwing a knife or taking a pic so I just kept springing. Even if that meant having to use a different corner section of wall as a buffer. If he appeared in front of me I attacked with the knife which CAN block him. Won't always but many times it will end up stunning him and you can run away. Also shoot the tentecles. They stop attacking for a long time when you do. Hand gun seemed to work the best but never try to shoot if he is in the middle of that quick stepping warp in a line behind you. It seems like he can't be stopped that way. You need t basically always be moving at an angle to him. Never away or towards

So is there a consensus on what difficulty level to start on if you played normal on TEW1? I've mostly been on a blackout for this game, but I've seen posts say hard in this is equivalent to normal in the first game. Is that true?

That's actually kind of hard to believe since it was so sparse to begin with in the previous game. If it's even more stripped down, why even bother including it? Anyway, three minutes of unpacking left.

Many of the characters, including the main character of course, were introduced in the first game, and they reference the events of the first game almost constantly. Many of the concepts and rules of the world the game takes place in also are explained in the first game. I'd say you would be completely lost without any knowledge about the first game, yeah, but you can read up on that without much trouble.

Maybe I'm just judging too early. iirc, different upgrade trees unlocked later after getting different weapons in the first game.

I am absolutely loving this game so far. For reference I did not like it from the streams I watched but playing it yourself is a whole other ballgame and experience.

-Love how smooth it runs
-The atmosphere is great. Absolutely love the town so far, so many nook and crannies to explore.
-The radio/echo discovery system is very nicely done.
-Much better story than the first one imo so far. I was lost about what the hell is going on in the first game and what the objective is most of the time. This one is clear from the start.

The only thing I don't like is how fucking slow Sebastian clibs ladders, otherwise it has been a really enjoyable ride and I am glad I bought it.

I just played for 7 hours and am only in chapter 4. I think there are 17 chapters.

Exploring the open world and hunting for loot and upgrades is super fun. I think a lot of the reviewers blazed through this to get something out for embargo.

There is A LOT of game here, and it's quality, awesome stuff.

Love it so far.
