As we've seen, console leadership is a tenuous thing. Nintendo, MS, and Sony have all swapped places numerous times since the original Xbox was launched. Wii killed, 360 killed at launch, Wii U flopped, then PS4 beat Xbone. Who knows what will happen next.
If Sony is looking at the situation as they don't have to
then that's a short-sighted view. You're not going to win long-term
if you're not consumer focused. Look at any business and that's the reality. Here there are two 'customers': the players and the game developers. Cross play helps both tremendously.
So MS and Nintendo are adding value. Making their products better. Giving more options and choices to their customers. Helping developers. Sony is not. Maybe that will be ok at the end of the day. Maybe not. But I'd rather think about improving my customer experience than not.
