Dead Rising 2: Off The Record |OT2|

So, correct me I'm wrong but there are three new psycho fights?
The clown, Chuck and two boss fights with Stacey?

LOVE the sandbox mode. They dump you in a great spot with a lot of maintenence rooms nearby. Enjoy the challenges too and the best part is all your money, stats and clothes carry over to the main game! Nice they added checkpoints too, if you die in a random psychopath fight you can start back beforehand. I'm lv 14 right now and I'm really digging it.

Intelliheath: it's an alternate take. I guess DR3 will answer which is cannon. Honestly when I found ***** in sandbox mode I lolled.

I don't really like how they did with chuck in DR:OTR. Is it what if game? or reboot?

It's a "what if" game .. but its not sure what this'll mean for the future of the franchise .. the Blue Castle guys were pretty happy claiming this version of the game as the directors cut.

damn this came out already? snuck up on me.

im glad TIR is gone. hated that shit.

still prob going to wait for a deal on this one.

As in "Heathcliff"
I don't like how they just do it.

I thought Chuck's story was pretty good and I felt that he have more personalities than Frank West, but I could be wrong.

I would love to see him to be in third game
and in UMVC3:AE with combo cards abilities

That's the main thing I'm worried about. I don't want to see Chuck thrown under the bus just so that the Frank lovefest can continue.

There is room enough for both characters, and I think they actually balance each other out nicely, but the douchiest character usually gets all the glory and I'm worried that will happen here. Hopefully they can build up a Resident Evil style stable of protagonists and then there will be someone for everybody.

But considering Capcom's obsession with Frank, I'm worried that they'll decide to continue off the story in this game.

I don't know man .. Frank has a lot more charm. He is a far enjoyable character to watch than Chuck ever was with his wooden personality.

It would have been kind of awesome in vanilla DR2 if chuck
was like how he is in this game, a bit screwed in the head and unstable because of Katie's loss.

Ah, I thought this included the first DR2 plus an expansion and whatever DLC. I'm a half-assed completionist (don't ask) so I think I'll just play DR2 once I find it cheap.

Obviously Dead Rising 3 will introduce tachyons that allow both universes to interact with eachother, giving each other universe-neutral info unavailable to eachother on their own that may or may not be helpful in helping eachother get by their own zombie problems.

Also it'll be uninterruptable cutscenes triggered via walky talky

OH NOES! Frank is going to cross over to the other world and kidnap Katie!

I was pretty excited about this game and was defending it from people hating on capcom, but it seems I was wrong. From what I hear this is pretty much a rerelease with not too much different from dr2, which I liked. I'm not really interested in sandbox mode, either, so I guess I'm putting this on my steam sale list. :-/

Yet, I find Frank to be a douchebag and his design to be off-putting. (Which is exasperated by Capcom's weird habit to make him look continuously more and more like a greasy scumbag who's face is in constant flux.)

I usually prefer calmer and more level headed characters. And I vastly prefer Chuck's design and back story. But I recognize the appeal of both characters to different people, I'm just hoping that Capcom realizes that having them both stick around would be better than retconning an entire game just to shoehorn in a popular character.

Holy shit how did I miss the grass cutter + chef knife combo the first time around, saw it being used in the giant bomb quick look, that thing does 400pp per kill ..

i'm not even through the first case and i'm already level 15 with just the survivors rescued and sparse usage of that weapon, i'm not even grinding ...

is the tiger still in this game ?

Everything I have heard about this makes it sound like the developers have finally decided to compromise to "more acceptable" mainstream game design decisions, and are selling out on all the elements which made Dead Rising as a series interesting and unique to me. Hopefully none of this bullshit makes it into Dead Rising 3 should they ever make it. As for this watered down cash-in rip off, I'm not touching it with a ten foot pole.

Pretty much how I feel as well. Particularly the last sentence. Between UMvC3 and this, Capcom can go fuck themselves.

Did they switch up locations of the free zombrex ?

I could swear there was one in vanilla DR2 in the Americana casino if you jumped across the chandeliers

Yes, they changed. Pretty much every zombrex you could find on the ground aren't there anymore.

I DLed Case Zero and played through it, but never got around to buying DR2 yet. Will my experience in Case Zero carry over to this version?

No. Just to regular DR2.

I never understood the Frank love fest personally, to me he had no personality and all I got from him in DR1 was "I've covered wars". Chuck to me had more just because of his story and motivation with his daughter... I dunno they both are simple characters.

The only thing I missed from DR1 was the photography

No idea what’s up with the PC version on Amazon. Went from being in stock (for preorder) before it was released. Then the day it came out, it went OOS, and now it’s “available for preorder” and will be released October 25th. I know, Steam is an easier option, but I have Amazon credit and I don’t really want to have to settle for the 360 version (although it is $5 cheaper at $35)

Would this be a good buy if I haven't bought DR2? Or would I miss important parts of the story?

You'll miss the wink and nods, but I guess since this plays like a "what if the events of dead rising 2 happened in a different yet similar way" so I guess you don't necessarily need that knowledge.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere so forgive me if it's been answered, but does this use the normal Dead Rising 2 save in anyway? Unlockables depending on your progress in that or anything?

I lost my DR2 save when my PS3 died and I had played though that at least 6 complete times so I had pretty much everything.

Yes the original save gives you Chuck Green's outfit for Frank and it might do other things but I don't remember.

I don't know if anyone is playing the PS3 version yet.

Thanks for the answer. Hopefully it's just a check to see if you have the save and not a progress unlock.

Pretty sure its not a progress unlock, I just remember them saying you have to have a DR2 save on your console.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Playing through DR2 vanilla proper, sort of hoping that, if and when, I get OTR I will be appreciative of any 'winks and nods' thrown in for those that did experience Chuck's side first.

More I play though, more I realize how little I want to re-experience the game. Just did the 'poker game' against three asshole survivors that took me a dozen attempts to beat. They refuse to be saved unless you beat them all at Poker. PLEASE TELL ME that crap isn't back in OTR for Frank? Cheating assholes. I know it's 'Vegas' and gambling is likely to play into the progression in some manner, but what a downer that quest was.

Funny, I never had a problem with them. It was the poker in the safe house that I hated.

All you really get from Case Zero is a bit of starting cash and an immediate jump to level 5 when starting a new game in vanilla DR2. The sort of thing you normally earn within the first hour of play anyway. Not too exciting.

More poker? Ugh...is it optional? I'm going for a 'perfect run' with all survivors saved. Up to Act 5-1 so far.

It's optional, but if you want to have the Ghost and Goblins armor you need to beat it, to get the helmet.

Performance on the PC is kinda like DR2, a bit iffy. I can't seem to hold a steady 60 FPS on High settings and 1080P. The Strip sees dips in the mid 40s. Just like DR2 did for me. (AMD 5850, Intel i7 860, 1080P). They do seem to have fixed the Xbox360 wireless controller bug. The PC config settings have been moved to a separate menu that is not accessible through the main menu. You have to access it through the pause menu. All the settings that are in DR2 (AA, AF, Vsync, Blur, Shadows) are there though.

I think I prefer the older Stacey look

so er I just reminded myself due to this thread that I have this ordered for pc in the uk, but it's not been dispatched from HMV yet.

I own DR2 for pc but not played it yet, I am so falling behind with games this year.

I still can't get over how ugly and poorly performing the DR2 games are compared to the original Dead Rising.

Someday I'll get around to playing through DR2 on the PC, but the nasty visuals and relatively poor performance greatly annoyed me.

Did they fix the zombie flesh in ps3 version? DR2 had horrible cheap texture when you cut zombie in two, much worse then DR one.

Would it be so hard for these reviewers to mention platform differences? Not that the game is going anywhere but I would like some mention of the PS3 version in these reviews, especially with how poorly it turned out last time. Game informer use to do this along with a few others but I don't think anyone does now.

There are three magazines which increase your gambling ability. Grab all three before playing these guys (forget their locations) and you'll get great cards every deal.
