Gran Turismo Sport is extremely limited in offline mode (no saves, unlocks, etc..)

I dont remember the last time I did not have a connection. Not a problem for me, but yeah, for some people it might be a problem.
This also applies to things like servers being down.

Have fun when Polyphony decides to do some server maintenance when you wanted to continue the campaign.

The quote isn't exactly right. You can't save your game to the online servers, but arcade mode still works, and single-player progress is saved normally.

The demo was a little different. When the servers were down, everything was down. They explicitly said that the full game wouldn't have that issue.

Sony defense force incoming.

I'll admit, you got a rise out of me there, briefly.

This is a terrible practice. Online focused Gran Turismo always seemed like a bad idea since the series is never known for its online features. Passing on this one.

No saves? Fuck off.

These kind of games need a "Requires Plus membership" sticker on the cover.

$60 for a demo, disgusting.
But that would be lying. It does not require Plus membership.

But this is the start of online focused GT. They have to start somewhere

They've always pushed the game as an online game. The primary focus of this is the FIA championship and everything else in the package is to lead you up to that.

I really could understand people being annoyed if it said Gran Turismo 7 on the box but this is intentionally different to that series of games, it isn't Gran Turismo 7 and maybe in the earlier stages of development it could have been seen as being part of the main series but I think they've been pretty clear about this.

Seriously?? This is awful if it's true. Can't believe it tbh.
People who have -any- interest in the game at all surely -at least- read the piece in the PS blog a month ago though

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/09/14/gran-turismo-sport-eight-things-you-need-to-know/

In order to ensure fair racing for all, GT Sport will require an internet connection for the majority of functionality. This connectivity requirement is to ensure that progress, car availability, and driver ratings are properly maintained at all times.

PlayStation Plus will only be needed for online multiplayer. Portions of the Arcade Mode, including limited two-player split screen, single-player races on select tracks, and time trials can still be played in an offline environment.

The online focus has been known since the reveal, and it's also on the box.

Not following you around, I promise- I'm clicking all GT Sport threads this morning.

Fact is that your post in the Review thread was full on conspiracy nonsense, not "being critical".
Why would they force you to be online then? Why can’t you save arcade mode progress?

It’s constructed to force people to play online which requires PS+

There’s nothing stopping them from letting you save offline except their arbitrary restrictions. It’s not like it’s technically impossible.

This game will just be a paperweight once they close the servers.

The box, official statements, and reviews like the editors note for IGN confirm this.

The amount of denial around aspects of this game has been frustrating to follow. From things like the online requirement, to the amount of solo content, to the lack of weather systems, it's been a strange period of time. People constantly "reassuring" themselves and proselytizing wrong info to others about things we know the answers to from official statements. Which is more of a detriment to the game than the actual underlying reality of it. If people's expectations are in check, what's there is a solid racing experience.

Yep, but it's tradition by now. Any time now someone will claim that local saves will unlock when you reach level 20.

Seems quite annoying if you are a SP Gran Turismo fan, even moreso than the heavy MP direction of the game. Also, can't wait for the game to be worthless a bunch of years later when PD pulls the servers to make you buy the next game.

And fairness being a concern for ELO ranks is fine, but locking the rest makes little sense if the mp is supposed to be as fair as possible, esp. with car stats/builds

Theres over 200 single-player races that you can play offline.

I'd hope that when the servers do go down for GT Sport Sony issues some sort of patch to make sure the game is fully playable - save updates and all.

Obviously we aren't ever going to get a Gravity Rush 2 situation where the servers are taken down less than a year after launch, but it'll probably happen at some point within the next 5-10 years.

So why does it need contstant online anyway? Having a racing game be Always-Online doest really make sense if all real online multiplayer competition is locked behind PS+ once again.

It's sad to say this as someone who has enjoyed and played hundreds of hours into many GT games, but I'm waiting on this game til it's like 20 or 30 on sale. Really disappointed with everything about this release

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I feel like this has been known for a long time if you were at all paying attention. This isn't new and I don't think they've tried to hide or lie about this fact. Its always been an online focused racer. Whether you like that or not is an other question but I think they've been pretty open about this game and what it is.

You can't be fucking serious, holy shit. And I was so hyped for this game after the excellent demo, too.

Sorry but I just can't support this. Back to Project CARS 2 for me, but I really hope they reconsider and patch it because I was really, really enjoying my time with this game.

They should have just called it Gran Turismo Online and none of this would have been a big deal.

People have had over 3 years to get used to the idea of an online GT, a different name wouldn't have stopped the complaints at launch time (and for the next year or two).

Is the PS4 hacked or something? Is there a valid reason for forcing an online connection to prevent cheaters?

Hopefully it gets patched, I was interested for VR support but now it's a no

Guess I need to post this again since there are some people who seem to have already forgotten after 2 page. Wow, how the mind slips!

I think PS4 save game editing has been possible for a while now, but I could be wrong here.

What in the fuck.........

Please someone defend taking pictures while in online mode only.

Please. I would like to hear this bullshit.

...what??

The full game is exactly the same as the demo, in terms of save structure and how it handles online functionality.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

Christ at the overreactions.

Any online focused game requires online, shocker.

How many people use their PS4s without being connected to the Internet? I mean with all the patches these days...

Did you try it?

I played the demo, the always online and the single player campaign being reduced to damn near nothing compared to what GT was really puts me off the game. To now no that the always online is such a big deal that you can't save or unlock anything just makes it even worse for me. What I love about GT is completing cups in the campaign, getting awesome gift cars for doing well in each cup, upgrading new cars for new events, etc. This game seems to have none of that

that.is.fine

sure thing

Honestly this whole thing feels like SFV in a way again, in that people up defending a lack of single player modes and content

You don't need a ps+ subscription

YOU DON’T NEED PS PLUS, YOU JUST NEED AN INTERNET CONNECTION.

Lord have mercy.

I see people are already readying the pitchforks. This community is exhausting.

You don't need ps+ to access the single player content.

Or to save the game,

You just need to be connected to the internet.

Nice to know. Yesterday, I learned that my cloud saves were locked behind the PSPlus paywall and I couldn’t access them.
