Gran Turismo Sport is extremely limited in offline mode (no saves, unlocks, etc..)

This also applies to things like servers being down.
Have fun when Polyphony decides to do some server maintenance when you wanted to continue the campaign.
The quote isn't exactly right. You can't save your game to the online servers, but arcade mode still works, and single-player progress is saved normally.
The demo was a little different. When the servers were down, everything was down. They explicitly said that the full game wouldn't have that issue.

This is a terrible practice. Online focused Gran Turismo always seemed like a bad idea since the series is never known for its online features. Passing on this one.

But that would be lying. It does not require Plus membership.

They've always pushed the game as an online game. The primary focus of this is the FIA championship and everything else in the package is to lead you up to that.
I really could understand people being annoyed if it said Gran Turismo 7 on the box but this is intentionally different to that series of games, it isn't Gran Turismo 7 and maybe in the earlier stages of development it could have been seen as being part of the main series but I think they've been pretty clear about this.

The online focus has been known since the reveal, and it's also on the box.
I wish. There will still be idiots who miss the warning on the box and then complain on the internet.
Why would they force you to be online then? Why cant you save arcade mode progress?

Theres nothing stopping them from letting you save offline except their arbitrary restrictions. Its not like its technically impossible.
This game will just be a paperweight once they close the servers.

What? You can't play Overwatch's single player mode offline?....... Yeah.
Seems quite annoying if you are a SP Gran Turismo fan, even moreso than the heavy MP direction of the game. Also, can't wait for the game to be worthless a bunch of years later when PD pulls the servers to make you buy the next game.
And fairness being a concern for ELO ranks is fine, but locking the rest makes little sense if the mp is supposed to be as fair as possible, esp. with car stats/builds

I'd hope that when the servers do go down for GT Sport Sony issues some sort of patch to make sure the game is fully playable - save updates and all.
Obviously we aren't ever going to get a Gravity Rush 2 situation where the servers are taken down less than a year after launch, but it'll probably happen at some point within the next 5-10 years.

I feel like this has been known for a long time if you were at all paying attention. This isn't new and I don't think they've tried to hide or lie about this fact. Its always been an online focused racer. Whether you like that or not is an other question but I think they've been pretty open about this game and what it is.

Sorry but I just can't support this. Back to Project CARS 2 for me, but I really hope they reconsider and patch it because I was really, really enjoying my time with this game.

I'm preeeeetty sure single player does save and Ars are wrong on that front. It just doesn't sync to the servers.

People have had over 3 years to get used to the idea of an online GT, a different name wouldn't have stopped the complaints at launch time (and for the next year or two).
Don't worry, I won't be playing the game.

The full game is exactly the same as the demo, in terms of save structure and how it handles online functionality.

The demo that was a load test for the servers that wouldn't let you save while you were offline?
I played the demo, the always online and the single player campaign being reduced to damn near nothing compared to what GT was really puts me off the game. To now no that the always online is such a big deal that you can't save or unlock anything just makes it even worse for me. What I love about GT is completing cups in the campaign, getting awesome gift cars for doing well in each cup, upgrading new cars for new events, etc. This game seems to have none of that
Honestly this whole thing feels like SFV in a way again, in that people up defending a lack of single player modes and content
Nice to know. Yesterday, I learned that my cloud saves were locked behind the PSPlus paywall and I couldnt access them.

You mean GT6 that sold over 5 million copies on the PS3 after the PS4 was launched? Yeah it killed the series.
