Another minor Wii Firmware Update... #1

I just noticed that there is a new Wii Firmware update available. No clue what it does, but it's there... doesn't change the Wii Firmware revision number, though. I did the updates back in late March, so this would appear to be something new.

Edit: Ack... I was meaning to post this in the Virtual Console thread... but I suppose a unique thread isn't bad... as long as I'm not wrong, of course.

it'll be so freaking great if they would update it to let you use gamecube controller to start a game from the wii menu

The version number displayed in the settings is not really the firmware version, it's the channel interface version. The latest "firmware" is IOS37 (or maybe IOS38 after the new update). All channels, like the Mii channel, have their own version numbers and can be updated independently.

Well, that's what I meant... the system settings menu doesn't display a new message.

Someone should see if the homebrew/etc. Twilight Princess hack still works. I'm tempted to believe this is a minor patch to either prevent corrupted save files from being in system memory OR fixes the issue with the security check not properly working with other stuff.

I updated at 2:02am PST this morning to 3.2U (I wasn't on it). I tried to do an update right after, but it said I had everything. So how recent did you check?

Hmm... I wonder when we'll starting hearing tidbits about what this update did. The fact that there's no update in the European market seems weird.

Icant get the update. and Im in Mississippi wierd...

Maybe they took down the update?

...either way this happened with the last major update (3.0) It had several minor updates in around 6 hours and then the big 3.0!

Wonder if 4.0 is close? August was 3.0 so iw ouldnt be suprised (and hope alot) that 4.0 is close...but probally not :\

Weird that they put the update up then took it down...

Wii Menu icon on bottom left of Channel Menu, then go to the Settings option on the right of the two big buttons, then top right of the screen with the 4 menu options on the screen should say your version. Mine says 3.2U.

I actually updated 5 mins ago - but I can't remember if I actually did the previous update a few weeks ago or not...

I'll try the Freeloader

Edit: Still works. I'm in EU, but I didn't update in march - so I probably just did that update now

They say that it isn't an April Fools joke, but a while ago it was confirmed that it actually was.

Just updated my PAL Wii. Afterwards, I put the Freeloader in and it seemed to load normally. Inserted No More Heroes US and it loaded on the menu. Didn't bother actually playing it since if it got that far, it almost certainly works fine.

Don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but the iPlayer for Wii launched yesterday, a bit of info from the BBC site:

Quote:
If you have a Nintendo Wii, it's already connected to your TV, and now you can play BBC iPlayer programmes directly on your Wii.

On your Wii, you'll first need to install the Internet Channel, which costs 500 Wii points, or approx. £3.50 (unfortunately there's no alternative to having to buy the Wii Internet Channel for iPlayer web site access at this time - but later we hope to be able to get iPlayer on Wii without this purchase being needed). After you've installed the Internet Channel, browse to www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer, find your favourite programme, and hit Play. The programme should play immediately.

For a smooth playback experience on Wii you'll need an internet connection that can give you 1Mbps or better. If you're experiencing buffering issues, try turning off any P2P or other downloads that are running on other computers around your home.

iPlayer on Wii is still in beta, and over the coming weeks we'll tweak the video encoding rates and playback window size to get the best possible video quality.

No it wasn't an April fools joke.

Some Joe Avarage that can't tell left from right, read the IOS37 information, made the Wii system update, and tested his Freeloader disc and because it still worked, edited Wiibrew (since it on wiki anyone could) with April fools text!

This made the people behind Wiibrew close editing on some pages only if registering an account verified by them, and they removed this loosers edit.

Well that's a little disappointing I thought it was its own channel but you have to browse to it. Oh well not like I live in the UK anyway.
