??

I've smoked cigs for a little over 10 years now (just turned 28). The urge to quit is getting stronger day by day. I cant imagine still smoking when I'm almost 40.

But life's struggles keep me going. I work in a casino, so it's always around me. I know myself when I quit (last time was back in May I stopped for 23 days). I get irritated, angry, and short tempered. Which is the main reason I haven't quit because I don't want to lash out at anyone.

Especially my dad, who has Alzheimer's. I worry if I quit I won't have the patience and frustration will take over. Or that I'll yell at the kids or my girlfriend for little things that don't mean shit.

It's a horrible habit, but damn does it keep me calm relaxed most the time. I can get along with almost anyone, even if I don't like them (as a bartender, this is kind've necessary).

Curious if anyone here has quit, or is going thru a similar phase as me. If anyone has some stories to tell of what it was like, how long it took before you felt the edge was gone, and how much better you feel. Might help me (and maybe others) to finally push thru.

I smoked for 10 years then quit for 5 years. Smoked again for a year and just quit about 2 months ago. I don't miss it at all at this point. The first time i quit was a lot harder. I basically felt completely normal after 2 days this time.

Just some hookah a couple times a month.

No cigs.

Never really got into marijuana, for no real reason other then not being exposed. I could change that, but maybe if the right opportunity hits.

Smoked for about 13 years. I quit in June last year.

Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking helped me quit after many failed attempts.
The biggest difficulty is overcoming the fact that cigs actually do not benefit or enhance your life in anyway, nor does it actually give you any pleasure. Once you understand that you do not need to smoke after food or while having a drink; you just think that its something you need. In reality the only satisfaction is just feeding your nicotine addiction. This books helps you realize that.

While I always suggest quitting with the book, another alternative I've seen people use to quit cigas is vaping. While not the best way, it certainly is a lot better than cigs.

I've been smoking for a little over a year.
I want to quit though because I don't really like smoking, and I don't like girls who smoke which I realise is pretty hypocritical.

I started smoking in the Army, quit about 10 years ago in my late 30s. I was never a heavy smoker, never smoked more than a half pack in a day. To this day I consider it one of the great hedonistic pleasures in life, and sometimes still miss it. Iíve never had any physical issues from it, lungs are strong. Itís funny, my dad is ridiculously fit for a 77 year old man and we both quit around the same age mostly at the behest of our respective children. Him and I are both fond of saying if the doc ever tells me I have 3 months to live Iím heading straight to buy a pack lol.

Edit: I still smoke weed so thatís sort of still smoking I guess

Smoked cigarettes from 2004ish until about 2 months ago. I'm 29.
I gradually found myself smoking less and less, and smoking made me feel gross and guilty that I was willingly giving myself cancer.

Bought a vape which I mostly only use when I'm drinking because that's the only time I get cravings.

My GF and I have split a pack on two occasions since quitting in september, but on both occasions we were pretty drunk and at the bar.

Other than my vape, if I really am craving a smoke I'll pick up a black and mild. They're terrible for you too, but I know I won't smoke the whole thing, and then at least I don't have the rest of a pack of cigarettes to worry about.

I've been smoking cigarettes for around 14 years. Just got a vape last week and haven't touched them since.

I normally smoke bud from pipes but I've been rolling since I stopped cigs to at least satisfy my oral habit.

Pot in fact is heavily addictive. Perhaps not the substance but the act of smoking a bowl sure is. I've been addicted to weed for over four years now and it's starting to harm myself and those around me. It's like I can't do anything without getting high first, it's the worst.

I switched to vaping over the summer and it's been great. It was a seamless transition for me. I still have dreams where I'm smoking but never have any cravings for a cigarette throughout the day or night.

Yes. Not heavily, but it's probably far and aware the biggest mistake I've ever made. Unfortunately, I actually enjoy it, despite it's drawbacks but please, my advice to anyone - don't ever start even casually if you're considering it (for whatever reason).

I'm 37 and it's just now that there's weird shit going on with my breathing, and I know it's a matter of time before shit hits the fan. A lot of the enjoyable stuff in my life are associated with smoking, and it's hard to detach from that. I really wish, at the very least, I had just stayed the "smoke when I drink" route, like a few of my friends managed to do.

THC does not contain anything that is physiologically addictive. Your issue may be that you have an addictive personality so the root is psychological.

I've tried Cigars and Weed (I'm fine smoking both of these every now and then but they aren't something I need to have permanently in my life) but I've never tried a cigarette and I never will.

It's not good for you and as a non smoker I think it smells disgusting. It's also a big money investment. Have lost the count of people that have told me that gaming is a waste of money but spend more money on cigarettes every month than me on gaming

Itís not though? You might have another issue, like maybe it masks depression or something else and your addicted to that aspect of it? If you stop smoking weed youíre not going to go through any withdrawal. Iíve stopped eating sugar for a year so I know when something is actually addicting. I smoke for 1.5-2 months every year and stop without a problem. I donít even think about it until itís summer time.
My sister use to carry an ounce on her so she could light up whenever and she has a crazy addictive percenality. When she had to get her dream job she just stopped. But she gets addicted to everything, things like Cajun shrimp, Korean fried chicken, pho, even boy friends.

I just quit 5 months ago after 23 years of smoking (Shesha). I was having trouble breathing, especially at night while trying to fall asleep. Seems like even while I was in stasis , not moving, I was having breathing problems, like I could get enough oxygen. Yawning a lot.

I miss it so much, and I fight everyday to not do it again.

It was this most difficult thing to kick. What disappointed me most was I didn't feel better for almost 3 months.

Been smoking on and off since I was... maybe 20 or so, when I started bumming cigs off of all my smoker friends just so I could join in.

I bought a pack a couple weeks ago and finished if off yesterday. I'll probably wait a couple weeks again before buying more. Except for parties or really long drives, I don't smoke more than that.

Another here that gave up in late March after 29 years. In my case aided by suffering a collapsed lung. Not caused by the smoking (unusual "extra" piece of lung apparently) but of course the smoke damage to my lungs wouldn't have helped.

Lucky for me I was able to stop without any real issues and certainly not climbing the walls with cravings.

Nearly became an addict.

If you want to take up quitting smoking OP. Try vaping with a 3 or 6 percent nicotine liquid. Nothing fancy needed you can get a pen vape, and those are discrete, don't look or smell any different then a normal vape. unless obviously you get a flavoured liquid then it will.

same here, when i go to doc for checkups and stuff, everything is good to go, never had any problems, and my family all smoked and lived long lives with no cancer, i think i got luck of the draw for that, i see people that never smoked get lung cancer and stuff, has a lot to do with genetics and pollution where you live as well, its legal, same as weed should be, alcohol kills more and does worse to your body than smoking, but that's none of my business Kermit the frog meme....
