Yeah I got the art books recently for my birthday and I was immensily disappointed when I saw in the Heavensward book that the Au Ra concepts had a more draconic design to them. Kinda like the Amani of TERA.
If they had looked like that I would have rolled one immediately. They need something different that doesn't look human. I get that there are beast races, but with Stormblood there have been some who live in societies with all the other humanoid races. It only makes sense to turn some of them soon into playable adventurers as well.
I have to mention Flammie from the Mana series, who's also my selection for Best Airship. I really like the theme of "sacred beast, who's also adorable".
I looked through the credits of Secret of Mana to try to figure out who would have designed them, and it was probably either director Koichi Ishii who was also credited as Monster Designer or Hiroyuki Narushima who was credited for Monster Character Design.

My favorite kind of character design is the cute fictional races/species that are human at least emotionally and expressively
Too many Pokemon to list, like Pikachu, Eevee, Vulpix etc
Recently there was Ori, and Quill - the mouse from the psvr game Moss
FF has some cute designs with moogles and carbuncle etc
The Mimiga from Cave Story
The Pooka from Odin Sphere
Nintendo has some great designs like Yoshi, Kirby, Animal Crossing too
If they look like humans with animal heads ie. Dust or Solatorobo ill probably lose interest, especially if they look like someones DeviantArt OC

I would have stayed Miquote cuz catgirls but yeah, their original design was so much better. I think their excuse was it would have been difficult to redo all of the foot armor for the race.

Most of the sonic cast, despite memes. They are legitimately some of the best designed characters in all of video games, and that allowed them to stand the test of time despite less than stellar games.
My favorite being this guy
The guy has stood the test the time, and despite not actually being playable in games for a very long time, has retained an insane amount of popularity, second in popularity t sonic himself. I believe this is for a few reasons, but the one that is thread relevant is that his design is actually quite good, and despite people labeling him as another hedgehog one of the most unique in the sonic land scape by a mryiad of factors, and actually by existing made sonic's design better by comparison, because it added a context to sonic and amy that never existed, silver helps with that too
There are a lot of " rival" ( i use rival in the looses sense of the word, because sonic doesn't really have rivals besides jet, just momentary misunderstanding and misplaced friendships) characters in sonic, but even knuckles never took off like shadow did. His design is quite striking and communicates a lot who he is vs the rest of the cast. This striking design I believe is why he retains the massive amount of popularity he has to this day.
So much in fact that along with the other blunders they brought to e3 in the form of sonic forces, sega thought it would be cool to play on shadow being the bad guy. It didn't work, and people were just... upset, way more upset than I did, I got annoyed.. Folks were miffed. So Along with all ther luke-warm to bad feed back sega got that imagine is confusing the shit out of them, the fanbase turning on them and going " WTF" in regards to shadow is probably confusing them the most. Lesson of the day kids, you can't just throw peoples favorite characters into shit and expect people to bite, sometimes it will do the opposite and they bite you.
aside from all that, one of my other favorites is this girl
Now she hadn't had the best treatment, usual female sonic character shinigans. They they made her play second fiddle to silver because sonic team literally forgot her backstory, didn't care about her and just made her silver side kicked, and after the bomb that was sonic 06 threw her deep under a bus because they don't want to... for whatever reason , actually use her previous backstory in full and is still associated with sonic 06 even in games like generations and so much so, apparently before this hiatus, it was hard to make comics about her and her world because sega would get weird about it.
Aside from all the sucky stuff, i think she's cool. She has a unique design among the sonic cast, and aside from all the stuff forced on her, I think she has an interesting personality amongst the sonic cast, and especially the female sonic cast.
Just sucks they threw her under the buss so hard. It also sucks, that Sonic team isn't incentivised to care because she , regardless of all that , was never really that popular in the first place. Which sucks, because she's dope and I wished more people liked her.

The makeup though, ugh.
Nuts and Bolts banjo looks like he has a phallus growing out of his forehead, his geometric design looks unfinished and Kazooie's bedrooom eyes, stupidly long eyelashes and sultry overly feminine look betray her character.
Still the best.

Actually looking at Kimahri, his design is weird. What's with those black straps covering his arms? How does he put that shit on and what are those little life savers supposed to do? I can't be to protect his shoulders.
Kimahri could do with a bit of dressing down but Nomura.
I definitely hope there's some non-human's in FFXVI but you never know with SE. Maybe they somehow think people don't care about badass man-dog-lions. *shrug*
I could also go for an FFIX sequel starring Vivi! .....I can dream.

Of course the non human thread is the one with people talking about porn and people bragging about being a furry. I liked when anthropomorphic designs didn't have to be linked with specific cliques and fetishes at every opportunity. The possessive nature of like "this style belongs to us!" is pretty annoying.

Whoa there, friend. Anthro characters "belong to me" as much as my favorite human male and female characters do. I realized that could be construed as elitist, so I did a proper post above. I may be furry, but I'm not in the Elite Furry Club.
Came to post this. I love Orisa's design, and her alternate Skins and colors all look awesome too.I really like Orisa from Overwatch.
