New Little King's Story |OT| My little king can't possibly be this cute

Yeah I just saw that after trawling through a bunch of sites I never order from - it ended up as a toss up between ShopTo at £30 (who I don't trust) and Zavvi at £28 (who will probably lose it) so I punted on Zavvi.

You don't trust ShopTo? May I ask why?

I've only used them twice, but I had no problems either time. I'll stop using them if it turns out there's something dodgy about them though.

They had that whole scandal about credit card details being stolen or something a few years back. They are probably safe now, but I just don't shop with online stores that lose credit card details.

Yeah I feel like the in game style is generally approved of by everyone but it's the dialogue/cutscene art that is fueling the flames of rage. I personally like it a lot, I really enjoyed the style of the original but I felt like they were a bit mutated looking, idk. This style is more anime but the proportions are better.
.

Yeah I can see why the 2d character art is causing negativity. I don't love it, but I have a feeling no one would be complaining had they not played/seen the Wii version.

The mutated, stylized look gave it a children's fairytale feel and made the game more unique because of it.
The new style is just more generic (but not bad IMO).

It had to be done though because I'm sure I read that the original did not sell well in Japan because of the art style, which people found too childish. So we wouldn't be seeing this Vita title without the change.

Japanese girl gamers also complained about The Wind Waker's Link not being a hot biseinen like Ocarina of Time's Link. Japan is bizarre.

I need to look up the Old game and see if this'll be something i like.
Regardless if it is, i'll be importing it from Amazon.co.uk or something.
Digtal Only Releases are a No Go for what should be a retail game.

There was a few things I really didn't like in the Wii version, I haven't read much about this, but I'm hoping stuff like equipment is handled better. May buy anyways.

You can customize both citizens and princesses equipment, although I'm not sure if you can customize the King's stuff now. There are tons of costumes already available for DLC that all have unique stat bonuses so, that's on top of whatever is in game already.

So can someone sell me on this game?
It sounds real interesting but im trying to dig up info and im not getting anything solid.

It's kinda like Pikmin, Animal Crossing, and it's own thing is the most i've pulled from previews/reviews. (Was looking at the wii game as well)

Also I recall someone saying the game was hard or something, anything about that?

I know this is a thread for the Vita version, but I HIGHLY suggest playing through the original Wii version if you're interested in this game. For those who plan to just play the Vita version I would AT LEAST try to find the original game and give it a run through at some point. I feel like a lot of the original message is going to be lost in this version (due to the new art style, among other things).

I'm actually curious if any hardcore LKS Wii fans will be picking this up. I'm curious to hear those veteran impressions especially regarding the general message of the game, its metaphors, boss backgrounds, etc.

I never played it on the Wii (this was a common theme for me admittedly) but am interested in trying it out in the Vita though. Will wait for a price drop personally.. I really struggle spending $35-40 on a handheld title nowadays (I don't buy many console games either). Might also try and snag it from Gamefly.

It's Pikmin. The Wii version was great, fantastic art design and charm, this version looks much more bland but seems to retain the basic gameplay. I have no interest in this because a massive part of the original was the 'growing-up' element of the story and that's destroyed by the new artstyle, but if you want a Pikmin-type experience and didn't get the Wii game then I'm sure it will be worth playing.

Hmm. I've heard a lot of good things about the Wii game but I'm still not entirely sure what kind of game this is.

Little King's Story is an Action Real-Time Strategy Simulator with RPG elements. Take some RTS, take some action, take some simulation, take some RPG -- and hey, you just got the best third-party Wii exclusive.

The pathfinding in this version seemed a bit better (which was easily the Wii release's biggest flaw), has a better interface and the gameplay is very compatible with portable platforms. That said, pretty much every other aspect of the Vita version felt inferior. New Little King's Story in general feels like it is missing Kimura's stamp. I don't like to pull the "they didn't get it"-card, because it was deliberately altered to pull in a different audience in Japan. I haven't seen seen many sales from either version to see if this was a successful move or not.

Short rant aside, you can do a lot worse than New Little King's Story. While I wouldn't recommend this version over the other one, but the core gameplay is still there and it's still a lot of fun.

Does anyone know what the DLC includes? I can't seem to find any info on what was released in Japan. I'd like to import this from the UK to have a physical copy and while I can pass on a few cosmetic items and such, I'd really hate to miss out on any significant DLC.

DLC will include quests, costumes and items. There is already quite a bit out in Japan, so we'll see how much of it comes here - although that is one of the main reasons Konami says they wanted it on Vita - the PS Store
and the OLED touch screen.

WTF this is out tomorrow in Europe? Totally went over my head!

I have the Wii version and finished it. Game could get pretty hard though in spots. Wonder if they tweaked the difficulty a bit for Vita.

Sure, I can see that, in the Wii version. The new art is pretty sexualised though.

It's just an anime picture though. If that was a very realistic-looking fourteen year old girl this game would get banned all over the place, but it's just anime and from what I've seen it doesn't look anywhere near as sexualised as, say, Dead or Alive 3DS, which has been banned in a few countries because of strict laws against child pornography.

Yeah you can marry a princess now, there are dating sim elements in the game now.

Also, is it weird that Verde is lumped in with the princesses with the costume DLC simply labeled as "Princess Set xx" ? She's an advisor, unless that means she's a potential bride too..

It was that way in the Wii game. You could choose Verde as a bride at the end.

But where's Spumoni?!? Why would they even get rid of Princess Spumoni

So is this a sequel or an expansion? Either way I am extremely excited for this game!

It's the first game with a different (much worse) artstyle and some minor gameplay changes.

But where's Spumoni?!? Why would they even get rid of Princess Spumoni

Because this is a bastardised version of the original designed to appeal to lonely otakus not to actually tell the same story as the original.

Yeah, I need details on the quest DLC before I just go for the cart.

I hate the single account thing.

I haven't played either version, but judging from screenshots this one looks much better. The art style is slightly more generic, true, but the overall improvement more than makes up for that.

Er... Do the characters age? Because I just read that the king is 14. Which makes this preeeetty creepy.

It worked much better in the Wii version, when the King was like an 8-year-old living a fantasy, and all the ladies were falling head over heels for him and fighting over him, it was ridiculous enough to work and was also pretty funny.

That said, does this game retain the same bizarre sense of humor as the Wii version? Does it have a different sense of humor? Does it have a sense of humor at all? These are important questions!

The Crimson Kid

what are you waiting for
I really liked most of the elements in the original game, but there were too many different issues with the controls and unit path finding for the moment to moment gameplay to be enjoyable for more than a few hours, which is an issue in a 50+ hour game. I'm hopeful that these issues have been addressed this time around so that I can enjoy the gameplay as well as everything else the original did right.

Hopefully the changes to the art style don't impact the whimsical feeling the original had. Even if I don't like the new art style, it isn't like the art in the original game was really anything to write home about, and I'd gladly trade the art style of the original for a game that is more enjoyable to play.

So yeah, cautiously optimistic about this one.

I haven't beaten the original (I know, shame on me.. sorry) but what I did play (the majority of it) I loved. I felt the same way too. Reviews so far are saying it retains the same goofy, great humor in it's dialogue.

The King looked more like a toddler in the wii version and the idea of ladies falling for someone like that is possibly more creepy in a Gloom Party's Sachiko the child bride kind of way.

The whole point of the scenario was the absurd fantasy the boy was living. It wasn't about grown women falling in love with a toddler, it was about a lonely child dreaming of being a king and fantasizing about what that entails.

Touche.

I liked the story better when Kipling told it.

I actually like the art style used for the cut scenes compared to wii version. In game characters still look cute so that's a non issue

But we had this argument over and over again in the past as well. No need to get back into it

0_0.. Looks like I'm getting a Vita then.

BTW did anyone cry about Sony stealing games?

being more of a remake then a sequel dampens the hurt somewhat.

Just notice that this game doesn't have the terrible blur filter that the wii one had. Wii game looked good, but I won't lie that my eyes burned after each play session.

So I guess they didn't nerf boss fights? Some of the bosses were pretty much broken.
