NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

I like his character ,and his gameplay offered a very different experience.

But I honestly can't get over his design. He looks like a fucking child(but his role in the story is that of a full grown adult). Its ridiculous.

I wish he looked like Adam or Eve instead. Then he would be an even match to 2B.

As great as NieR is,it couldn't escape some JRPG tropes.

Dunno, 2B's roughly the same height as 9S without the heels. Still makes me laugh how short they are, though.

This
Council of Humanity sounds flimsy as hell. I bet it doesn't exist. Even the alien backstory seems flimsy.

No offense but these kind of spoiler posts drive me crazy. Wish people would state at least what route it relates to. I'm currently in B and would like to see what others are saying that are in the same route. Its a minefield in here! Lol

?? Council of Humanity and Aliens are in the first cutscene in the bunker. There's no spoilers in that post.

i'm not sure concepts like childhood and adulthood apply to androids

For all intents and purposes, they're very much the "humans" of this universe.

They were designed after humans. They talk, walk and act like humans. They just have a different physiology.

yes

but they are manufactured into a certain form and then stay that way (barring modifications)

they don't physically age the same way organic lifeforms do

Question about after ending c:

I can now choose at certain times who to play as, A2 or 9S. Picking, for instance, A2 does that mean I miss out on content for 9s and vice versa?

I know that but its a game of minesweeper with no context included.

yeah, while that particular spoiler was harmless, i hate that way of marking spoilers

you should always make a reasonable effort to state outside the spoiler tags what part you're referring to so people can know whether or not it's safe to click

I just started the game lol. It was just a speculation, I didn't think of putting a warning because of that.

Just running through route B, trying to finish this stupid desert side quest
yay let's find the needle in a haystack!
and suddenly I encounter a desert landmark
a bunch of giant Emil heads WTF

Also regarding that last spoiler
Emil's shop is hilarious. I'm so confused and amused at the same time. Why do all his chips cost 21 slots?!

I think the point is that when the whole post is spoiler marked like that then there's no way of knowing if it's something about the start of the game or the end without taking a chance and clicking it.

Spoilers should be marked.

E.g.: (Early Route A spoilers)
(Late Route C spoilers) etc etc

Yeah, you are right, it just didn't occur me to put any warning because I just started it and it was just a speculation, sorry.

I've fallen into accepting his design in a resigned "can't win 'em all" way. His gameplay, role in the story and va all make him an agreeable character. But yeah, would have preferred he look a little more mature.

It's mostly his shorts that I don't like.

I wish he had some dope suit.

Without their blindfolds and without her heels, 2B and 9S don't come across as particularly different in age. Besides, he's the science nerd, and 2B is the soldier.

I disagee and I think his design was entirely intentional - like most things in this game.

(Read only if you've completed all endings)

He is designed to look young because he is supposed to come across as naive and a bit innocent while also being extremely inquisitive about the world, as most young children are. I thought his design perfectly fit his character, his relationship with 2B, his role in the story and his role as a scanner in Project YorHa. I think if he looked like Adam or Eve he would have come across as a very different character.

I'm going to disagree here and say that

(General late game story spoilers)

If anything the Machines are the humans of this universe but both the Machines and the Androids are still in the early stages of conscious evolution, the Machines are just a bit further along (Not all of them but certain groups).

Finally did the first route, the game picked up for me round about the forest area, a bit further in I sort of just accepted my hangups and got on with it so to speak.
I do feel that I'm still waiting for the story side to really deliver a swerve, by comparison to Nier 1 where reaching its first end is actually pretty satisfactory (I've never been of the thought that you needed to do its second ending for extra context, that was more of a bonus to me) here I'm thinking they're holding a lot more back for the other routes on this occasion?

Now to get used to triangle not attacking in a traditional manner.

Indeed. But I do think there is a middle ground here, which is why for example I suggested "a little more mature" in my post. Eh, what's done is done, and a good character regardless.

As much as I'm enjoying the game, the combo of one shotting bosses and unskippable cutscenes is extremely annoying.

Are you referring to the opening on hard? Because that is indeed very tough. Later on, I've found that the defense boost items helps out a lot in preventing you from being one-shotted, though I haven't gotten very far yet, so maybe that strategy is not viable later on

I'm mostly thinking of that + the last couple of bosses I beat.. I think Im up to the 5th?
(Adam+Eve)
. The last one isn't technically a cutscene since you can move around but it seems like he cant be attacked until the speech is done, unless I over looked something.

I'm not a big fan of 9S design. I like his character but his appearance is pretty nerdy. Not a fan of his outfit. Someone above mentioned he would look cool in a suit. I agree.

I think I just overly relied on 9s' hacking ability. My pods were doodoo and I never properly learned the ins and outs of his melee.

Although, I like the flirting with the idea of an open world bullet hell game

"Thanks mister. Thanks grumpy lady." Lol.
Saved this
child escort quest
for route B this time, surprised that
enemies still level 10
.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
I just hate the stupid blindfolds.

Dunno if you're playing on hard or not, but farm some money (fishing) and then fuse a bunch of HP+ chips. +5 or +6 for +50% HP will keep you out of getting one shot from most things, and give you time to quickly heal back to full. For even more safety, couple this with Anti-Chain Damage chip. Of course, you can also add Melee and Ranged Defense chips on top of this to make a really tanky build.
