Seems like Trump's internet troll army should be getting extremely fucking skiddish about their boy right now.

Or maybe it's still just "LA LA LA LA."

I genuinely get that feeling. Pai (and this administration in general) has taken pissing on your face and telling you it's raining to a whole new level. Millions of comments could come in and Pai could just say "fake news" and trash them all just for the sake of lining his pockets with ISP money. But even then, I still think we should try and make them force it out of our hands rather than lie down.

I also get annoyed when important topics like this fade to the back pages. I was desperate to bump it but I'm certain I can't on GAF

As long as I have a valid comment and the topic isn't too old, it is not a bump in my eye. Also, I've already sent emails to my Representative and Senators, but I think going full on SOPA protest on this thing with physical demonstrations in front of the FCC building is perhaps a better option.

Many of them and reddits like T_D basically say the career republicans did this not Donald. That they conned him lol

At this point, I bet he could physically take advantage of their significant others(if they even have one) and they would say he was "forced to" since being President is hard or some other stupid reason

Trump voters are some of the dumbest people in the country. He's making America great again by throttling internet speeds and discriminating based on what sites you watch. Just hilarious the mental gymnastics and pathological lying they have to do explain their bullshit.

No amount of this nonsense is going to bolster choice or competition. There is a reason why you only have 2 options for internet providers, dsl(landline) and cable. One provider each. Becuase infrastructure is to damn expensive for anyone new to get into the game. Also most cities dont have the space.

I don't have high hopes for this. If Pai is going to ignore 4 million public comments from the last go around, I seriously doubt any public comment from this round is going to make any impact. Pai has shown his colors of not being representative of the general public.

I'm hoping the industry takes a stand again. Blackouts, downtime, whatever it takes. Make it matter and keep it in the news.

A 30 minute interview with FCC Chairman Ajit Pai:

Video: Why He's Rejecting Net Neutrality (4/26/2017)

The FCC currently regulates Internet service providers (ISPs) under Title II regulations that essentially treat the internet as a public utility similar to the old phone monopoly. Proponents of net neutrality and the invocation of Title II regulations say that such oversight is necessary to ensure that the Internet remains "open" and ISPs don't block sites or degrade offerings by rivals. Long a critic of Title II regulations, which were invoked after the FCC lost two court battles to regulate the Internet, Pai describes them as "a panoply of heavy-handed economic regulations that were developed in the Great Depression to handle Ma Bell."

Scrapping these rules, Pai told Reason's Nick Gillespie, won't harm consumers or the public interest because there was no reason for them in the first place. The rationales were mere "phantoms that were conjured up by people who wanted the FCC for political reasons to overregulate the internet," Pai told Gillespie. "We were not living in a digital dystopia in the years leading up to 2015."

If left in place, however, the Title II rules could harm the commercial internet, which Pai described as "one of the most incredible free market innovations in history."

"Companies like Google and Facebook and Netflix became household names precisely because we didn't have the government micromanaging how the internet would operate," said Pai, who noted that the Clinton-era decision not to regulate the Internet like a phone utility or a broadcast network was one of the most important factors in the rise of our new economy.

Pai also pushed back against claims that he's a right-wing radical who's "fucking things up."

"[I ascribe to] the very radical, right-wing position that the Clinton administration basically got it right when it came to digital infrastructure."

During the interview, Pai also shared his views on topics including privacy, Donald Trump, obscenity, universal service, and more.

It is literally illegal for the cities themselves, or new enterprises, to start up shop in the vast majority of municipals.

Exactly. I'm afraid of just how adamant this guy is.

But that's why public pressure needs to be bigger and stronger than ever before. Even on the off chance that his mind isn't changed, we'd at least be able to send a message to everybody on what this administration truly is.

If we get even more comments in on this go around than the last time, and this guy still goes on about this, then it will be known to everybody on a scale unlike before that this administration doesn't care about the people.

What makes this different than something like the privacy rules is that this is a long-arduous process, giving us more than enough time to make our voices heard.

Yup. Funny enough Hillary (I know I know, third evil of the world yada yada) talked about this a bit and used it as an example of how they can bring business to towns and cities by allowing them to lay out infrastructure and set up locally owned ISPs.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
When Republicans talk about "internet freedom", what they really mean is the "freedom" for big internet companies to do whatever they want. It has nothing to do with us.

Ah sweet freedom for all!

As far as I'm concerned this whole administration can take their interpretation of freedom and shove it up their collective asses.

Of course they have to talk about "freedom", their eternal buzzword.

Freedom and access are their words to use.

Of course, like Michael Hudson argues, many words relating to Capitalism now mean the exact opposite of what politicians assert them to mean.

Freedom for the people = freedom for the people to be economically coerced.

Access = to normalize the lack of access.

Look at any GOP member who uses those words of freedom or access, and the opposite meaning I have alluded to can be directly seen in their arguments.

Well trump probably straight up doesn't understand this issue. Like at all.

That said, if this goes through, we should start collectively, a flush rush type movement that pushes providers to block right wing vitriol and neo nazi synpathizing sites.

There won't really be any free speech protections to stop it.

Corporate freedoms masquerading as promises of personal freedoms is spectacularly Orwellian.

And Repubs will continue to use it as long as it works. Too many people buy into the narrative that freedom stripping legislation will expand freedom just because someone says it rather than proving it with facts.

Ah, yes. The US citizens freedom to get fucked over by their ISPs has been restored. Truly a day to celebrate.

Elections have consequences.

F*** anyone that didn't vote or voted out of spite cause your favorite candidate didn't make it to general.

I'll contact my representatives, but they're all in favor of NN already. It's the right wing states and counties/districts.

Ajit The POS Pai needs to be stopped.

I wish I could ask Pai when exactly he decided to sell his soul to the devil. How does he look himself in the mirror without feeling like a piece of a shit?

The press release says the plan to eliminate Obama-era Internet regulations
This is all a lot of people need to hear to support this blindly.

I'm seriously terrified of what the internet could like like if Pai and the FCC get their way with this.

It will start off subtle. Companies like Comast, Verizon, Charter, and others will start offering a new "basic" tier of internet access. Something like $29/month, but you only get access to basic email, Facebook, and Youtube. That's it. Every other website you would try and access would be blocked. This is an obvious violation of net neutrality and the core principle of an open and free internet, but it would be marketed as a "basic" package for people who "don't need" anything more.

Fast forward 3+ years from now, and who knows what things could look like. ISPs could be requiring people to pay for "premium" packages just to access any website they want. They could be charging people $0.25 for every MB used on Steam, or $0.30 for every MB used when using Blizzard's game or services. $0.15 per MB when using Youtube. All on top of your normal bill. And of course, all of their own services (Comcast owns NBC Universal, AT&T is about to own Timer Warner) will be exempt from these extra fees.

The internet as we know it will truly be no more. What authoritarian regimes do in other countries to the internet, the ISPs will be doing the same thing here.

The only hope to stop this honestly is if Trump loses re-election. If he goes, then so goes this piece of shit. Everyone should be fucking alarmed by this, and I have no idea why this thread isn't bigger.

if I didn't need the internet, I would call my ISP, cuss them out for increasing by bill while reducing the service I receive, and tell them to fuck off before canceling.

Should we email our representatives every day to make sure they know?

The republican pigfuckers had best tread carefully here. Once you take away the people's bread and circuses (in this case internet porn and Netflix) no amount of xenophobia and wedge issues will keep you in power.
