If you never played Syndicate when it was released back in the day how does it hold up now? Is there a good story to it?

Can GOG give me road rash so I can ruin my memories of that spring break yet?
Here's a list of game updates I noticed while running through the titles:
Arma: Cold War Assault: Patched to v1.99 (campaign/sp/mp fixes)
King's Bounty: The Legend: New build with quite a few bigger bugs fixed
Little Big Adventure: New build almost immediately after release, with CD quality audio

These are games that have been re-compiled in to a newer .exe accessible from your account page (so re-download them if you got them around release). Not too many this time around.

Then we have a summary of newly added games with MODs / games with changes:
Advent Rising: added game, unofficial patch (restores cut movies, etc)
ArmA: Cold War Assault: Added game, link to downloading user created missions
Call To Power 2: Newer version of Apolyton unofficial patch released
Descent 1 & 2: added link to DXX-Rebirth simple installer
Die by the Sword: DBTS Extended updated (bug fixes)
Dungeon Keeper 2: Added game and link to unofficial patch
Fallout: FIXT (all-in-one patch) & High Resolution patch updated
Fallout 2: sfall & High Resolution patch updated
Freespace 1 & 2: Cleaned up section a little more, updated links
Gothic 3: Added game and link to the Community Patch, highly recommended, improves everything
Heroes of Might & Magic II: Free Heroes 2 updated
Heroes of Might & Magic III: Added all-in-one installer for Wake of Gods
IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946: Added link to newest patch
Independence War Deluxe: Added link to nGlide, alternative wrapper for higher res
Jagged Alliance 2: Added additional mod summary link
Knights and Merchants: The Peasants Rebellion: Added game with link to fan made mode with new engine
Little Big Adventure: Added game with link to music offset fix and modding community
Master of Magic: Added link to modding community
MegaRace 3: Added game and link to patch for fixing 1920x1080 resolution support
Might & Magic 6: updated to GrayFace MM6 Patch v1.11 (minor bug fixes)
Might & Magic 7: updated to GrayFace MM7 Patch v1.6.1 (minor bug fixes)
Might & Magic 8: updated to GrayFace MM8 Patch v1.5 (major release, greatly improved mouse look, bug fixes)
Original War: added link to patch 1.12.2, various bug fixes
Planescape: Torment: added link to DDraw Fix, fixes artifacts / stuttering / poor framerates
POD: added game with link on how to setup with dgVoodoo
Psychonauts: Added game, link to patch v1.05 which includes all changes from new steam version minus cheevos (including all the bugs/crashes 1.05/06 brings :(... v1.07 should fix this)
Realms of the Haunting: Added link to suggested DOSBox keybindings
Rise Of The Triad: Dark War: Added link to Return to the Triad, fan-made sequel
Septerra Core: Added game and link to Timeslip's unofficial patch (fixes windowed mode / videos / cpu usage)
Temple Of Elemental Evil, The: Circle of Eight modpack updated to v7.0
UFO: Aftermath: Added game and link to mod site.
UFO: Afterlight: Added game and link to mod site.
UFO: Aftershock: Updated links to additional mods
Ultima Series (I-VII): Added games with link to Pix's all-in-one auto-patcher

Finally, a special notice for the MS Application Compatibility Toolkit, another working solution for getting rid of the slowdown in older DirectDraw games (like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc), this one not needing additional software to launch with, and working in fullscreen and windowed modes. For help creating profiles, see here (1:45-3:00).

Here are the links to the listings again (also easily accessible in the OP):

MOD INFO N-Z

Nice being more up to date again!
Nice that they are packaging up the games like fallout like that. I may update my archive copies.

Picked up a flightstick on Friday along with Wings of Prey but now Im looking for other games to take advantage of it. Since good aerial combat games seem to be practically nonexistent these days, I turned to GOG and grabbed Freespace 2 so Im looking forward to that but Im also wondering if there are any others I should try. Any suggestions?

How is IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946?

MONDAY RELEASE!

Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods. Which looking at the user reviews... doesn't look like something to get too excited about.

http://www.gog.com/en/news/new_release_gothic_3_forsaken_gods_enhanced_edition

'Unusual news' tomorrow, also described as 'something cool'. First non-old game release?

Edit: Wait, Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods itself is not yet a year old.

Edit2: Oooh, could the 'cool thing' be related to https://twitter.com/#!/thatbarnettblok/status/160754316943179777 ?
Trying to get sign off on expansion for EA games on GOG. Might actually kill me....

Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods (Enhanced Edition) out today. Pretty new title, 2011, perhaps this is what they meant when they said they'd start releasing newer titles.

It fits in nicely since they already have Gothic 1 & 2 on GOG. I believe the Enhanced Edition of Forsaken Gods is supposed to be significantly better than the original release of the expansion, but never got a grasp on exactly where that leaves it.

Edit: beaten!

The original itself, iirc, doesn't really tell the story in detail, but it had this very moody sci-fi feel to it. Really loved it. Definitely good potential for a detailed story.

If you thought that yesterday's Monday release was unusual, just wait for today's news!

I do think we're looking at something *unconventional* more than something necessarily *hugely exciting*. Although charging for expansions would make sense, since that's outside their general remit.

My guess: EA expansions, charged separately, such that the total cost of the complete title hits the $9.99 pricepoint.

I assume this is today's news. And it's... an announcement of an announcement. Never change, GoG.

New publisher on Thursday. Two games released. "Two game characters that are now a standard in their genres"?

New Publisher Coming: What Kind of Hero Will You Be?

What kind of hero will you be when our new big publisher joins GOG.com?

Wow, a Monday release and big news today? Is it the end of days?

As we‘ve already told you, 2012 will be a year of grandeur for GOG.com. To prove that, another big publisher will join GOG.com in a move that wasn’t predicted even by the Mayans (and they knew a lot about 2012). Our new publisher carries an impressive portfolio with some of your all-time favorite game heroes that will join the GOG.com catalog in coming weeks. Two game characters that are now a standard in their genres will grace our catalog on this Thursday with as we launch the publisher with style, bringing you two new games on one day.

What kind of hero will you be on that day? What are our two major releases?

GOG.com will be giving you clues about the new publisher right here on our forums, hints about one of the two heroes you’ll see on Thursday via Twitter and clues about the other hero on Facebook.

There needs to be a rule that GOG can't do teasers with the word Hero in them until they release the Hero's Quest / Quest for Glory series. Sadly the clue sounds like it has nothing to do with the games.

no, it's still total shit. abysmal wrecking of the original gothic3.

I bet on Thief being the game about the hidden Hero.

Then, the publisher could be Square Enix, which now leads to all Eidos properties, including tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Hitman, Legacy of Kain, etc

definitely looks like thief gold

I think they are spacing their big releases a bit. I see no reason not to see the QFH and Laura Bow games at GOG one day. I also think that their release change with sales success of similar games.

The 'heroes' in question being Garrett and Lara would make quite a bit of sense. I think Lara's a shoe-in for one if it *is* Squeenix. Not as sure about Garrett, simply because the implication is that they're *currently* doing their thing, and it's been some time since Thief 3 without Thief 4 really looking all that close.

There's a nice pixellated image to think about -
HzJTDl.png

- which doesn't quite match up with Lara (no turquoise for her top) or Garrett (the Thief boxes were fairly dark, whereas this is quite bright around the structure (face?) in the middle), unless it's some other source art.

I will keep my childish hopes for Lucasarts up. And hope that the 2 heroes refer to Sam & Max. I need Tie Fighter from GOG >.<

GOG on Twitter said:
Hero 2: Will you be the kind of hero that knows how to stay unnoticed?

Source

Also points strongly to Garrett. I'm going to go with that for now, since GOG have a history of making their hints way too obvious.

Maybe ? Cant see where the pixelated bit would quite fit though.

I really fucking hope its Thief, those games are unique.

Oh man, I've always wanted to play Anachronox.

SquareEnix has a lot of neat stuff so it would be good news. But I'm still not convinced that those EA expansions will ever get out of licensing hell and I don't think anyone is surprised to see Eidos games on GOG.

If it was that, surely we'd see some blue/white in the pixelation around the head? Plus I think there would be some lack of symmetry (darker pixels? some black ones?) owing to the fact that there's a dark tree one side of him and not the other.

Eidos would be good mostly because I think it might help sort out out the rights issues surrounding System Shock rather than particularly for games Eidos published ;p

Thief, Deus Ex, Final Fantasy, Anachronox, Hitman, Soul Reaver, Urban Chaos

It could also include Warzone 2100 and Nomad Soul.

It would be a good deal.

How would Eidos joining GoG help at all with the bizarre situation surrounding the System Shock IP?

I predict/hope it's Lucas Arts. That picture kind of reminds me of Loom or Indiana Jones FoA intro.
But Lucasrts isn't very relevant today and the hints talk about how the heroes are "a standard in their genre".

Lucasarts is pretty much the Holy Grail for GOG at this point though.

Ah fuck my circuits got crossed. I thought Eidos had some ownership of Looking Glass and so might have a stake in SS, but I guess it was just a publishing relationship. D'oh.

I've always wanted to play the classic Thief games. I've only ever played DS. I did used to own Thief 2, which I got for pennies, but it didn't play well (at all) with Windows XP and the GPU I had at the time.

Both games in one $5.99 pack would make me bite. Separately, I'd consider it...

There is little over-arching story. You are a mindless drone for a mega corporation, go kill agents of other corporations and secure each country for your employer.

Each mission has a short introduction, giving you the background for the mission, but don't expect any characters being mentioned. It's always "scientist", "military specialist", etc.

How does it hold up? Perfectly. Gameplay is glorious EXCEPT FUCKING PARAGWAY MISSION!!!!

I've always wanted to play the classic Thief games. I've only ever played DS.

Previous games are superior in every way. Add to that tons of fan-made missions, T2 even got a new character and full fan-made campaign called T2X, which people were saying is as good as the original one.

Might play it again, but I'm chicken-shit about zombies in T1 (thank God they were mostly replaced with machines in T2).

Not gonna lie, I'm a bit hyped for Thief Gold if GOG can pull off a WORKING version.

I actually have the damn game and getting it to work (and getting it to stay working) on my comp is a bitch.
