I'm quite fond of Fresh Slice's veggie Pizza with the onions, tomatoes, and olives. So saucyRoto13 said:

I like Vancouver a lot. But as a born-and-raised child of Vancouver, I feel I should warn you about the rainy season (roughly Sept-early May), where we can go for weeks without seeing the sun. I'm OK with that, but a lot of transplants from elsewhere find that off-putting.Mango Positive said:

We haven't decided on where to go this summer for vacation. We want to keep it domestic this year, and Vancouver is high on the list. I use to make the trip up when I lived in Edmonds (just north of Seattle), but I haven't been in years.
If I could afford the housing, it would be my number one destination.

UBC LipDub was kinda meh. Girl at the beginning couldn't project, cutting to a Marianas Trench song no one knows was a gimmick (just because they're in it), they spent too much time underwater, and too many cutaways at the end (entering the truck, the aerial shots). I would've preferred that the camera actually boarded the chopper and it took off. At least it was a nice day and they got all the non-Asians to participate.

Went to Les Amis du Fromage today. It's a pretty big place, with a fine selection of cheese, plus other gourmet goodies - fleur de sel, balsamic vinegars, slices of foie gras*, a little charcuterie, premade soups and stocks, duck confit, and so on.
* probably more expensive than the Gourmet Warehouse by weight, but it's sold in much smaller portions here; Gourmet Warehouse sells entire lobes.
Ganache Patisserie in Yaletown. Nice croissants. Big focus on special, fairly expensive cakes, sold both by the piece and whole. Great craftsmanship, though.

Speaking of patisseries, my family has been going to one of the oldest French patisseries in the city for years. Notte's Bon Ton is on Broadway in the Greek part of town but was originally write on the main drag of Granville before moving there. It use to be in the same place where there is a Cafe Crepe right now. This patisserie has good stuff and excellent croissants. They do a really good diplomat and also have special yule logs for the Holidays that are super popular.

I also want to recommend True Confections for cakes. So delicious, so over the top. I once worked for a place that bought monthly birthday cakes from TC.

My wife and I head up to Vancouver from Seattle every July for our wedding anniversary and spend a weekend. We typically stay at the Moda Hotel.
Our favorite restaurant in Vancouver, if not the entire world, is Bin 941/942. Kintaro Ramen is good as well, and Guu with Garlic is fun for lunch.

It's my first year, and this is going to be my first actual 'marathon'. Looking forward to it. Been training for a couple months now and I'm thinking I'll do pretty good, but ran in to a case of Runner's Knee that might hinder things a bit.
Also, anyone know where to pick up the shirt and number, etc?

I would love to go back to Vancouver. I've been there a couple times, but the last time had to be at least 15+ years ago. Doesn't really feel that long ago, but it's absolutely one of my favorite cities in the world I've ever been to and one of the few aside from NY that I could realistically see myself living in.

I haven't been up to Canada since I was very little, and I would like to visit Vancouver.
I have some friends that are warning me not to go though. They say it's a dump and that the economy has regressed to a barter system where everybody is a bum.
He has a predilection for the tea party though, and I still plan to go in the face of this damning anecdotal evidence.

You would probably like Marché St. George @ St. George and 28th. It's a little corner store in the middle of a Mount Pleasant residential neighbourhood with great coffee and godlike croissants. They also bring in really high quality cheese and yogurt from the valley, and they have lots of locally (as in Mt. Pleasant) made sausages that are fantastic as well. Definitely a hidden gem. They're pretty new still so many folks haven't visited it yet.
I would love to move there, but as an American the hoops I'd have to jump through are numerous. Eventually it isn't worth the trouble anymore. I have a lot of Canadian family though, aunts/uncles, cousins, 2nd cousins... I think you have to be a more immediate family member to be sponsored that way though.

If you haven't been to Vancouver in 15 years you will be shocked by the change. It is a new city.
So next week is probably the last to go up to Cypress, Grouse, and Seymore Mountains for skiing and riding. The season has been amazing. Loads of snow up there and they just got a dump yesterday. I love Cypress Mountain and the trail expansion they did is beautiful.

ie - Pay $250+tax and you'd be able to ski everyday until May 30 (when Blackcomb mountain closes.)
It's also been the second snowiest season on record....insane - 15.02meters of snow and counting

I agree though! The Vancouver Convention Center certainly has enough floor space for an E3. If you have been inside, that lower area is absolutely massive. Possibly almost twice the size of one of the main LA halls.

The cheapest place I stayed in Vancouver that didn't suck was the St. Clair Hotel. (It's called a hotel but it's actually a hostel.) The (private) room was comfortable, though it was kind of hot. The staff was friendly and helpful and the location is pretty great.
Stay away from the Cambie Hostel, though. It's run by apathetic dickish teenagers or something. Fucking awful.

I went to the Ep!c sustainable living show yesterday. It was ok if you are into organic coffee, chocolate, beer, drinks, makeup, etc. The highlight was the Tesla Roadster and Model S on display.
After the show we went to the nearby Bella Gelateria and it was amazing. Espresso is fantastic and the gelato is incredible. Nancy Robertson and Brett Butt were there having coffee so it is good enough for reasonably famous Canadian tv stars.
