How do these things normally work? Are there tons of people lined up for game launches?
I'm imagining a console launch on a smaller scale.

For the most part it's just for people that pre-order at those particular stores. There's always the chance that they'll sell to walk-ins as well.

I suggest calling the EB closest to you that is opening at midnight.

Randomly went to EBGames' website this morning and they have a deal if you buy three Vita games or accessories you get a $20 PSN card free.

I went to pre-order MLB 12 the Show for the vita at 39.99$ at Futureshop and when I put it in my cart it went down to 34.99$ pretty warm deal.

Not bad. I'd grab HSG there but it's $40 compared to $30 everywhere else lol.

And why can't BB have SFxT with the 800RZ points!

YMMV as I don't know if this is a sale across all their stores, but as I was walking by the upper level Shoppers Drug Mart at City Centre downtown Edmonton, I saw a sale sign under Hot Shots Golf for Vita... $29.99, regular price $39.99.

edit: apparently it's $29.99 everywhere anyway so this isn't a deal.. lol

Depending on the type of game. Last year, I remember the CoD and the BF3 lines at the place I go to with 50~100 people.

Yeah, it depends on where you are, and what game is coming out.

Here in south Edmonton, games like Halo, CoD and WoW have lines that wrap around the building. Otherwise its at least over 100 people.

yeah the lines in edmonton at bestbuy or futureshop are huge and it takes forever to get through because they never have enough people at the registers. i've gone to a handful of them and it's usually fun... saw a group of dudes masturbating in their car to porn on a laptop during a wii line up. guess they thought the window tint would hide them.

i've driven past EB for some midnight launches and have never seen a line exit the building. maybe they do preorders only?

There's also a bundle where you can get both the PS3 and PSN versions for 80, so I've heard anyway.
Hrm, might be US only? Weird that someone at EB told me about it anyway.

Anyone know if Bioware is going to be having a launch party for ME3 in Edmonton? I know they usually do them at the Southgate EB when they release a game.

If anyone's looking for an Xbox360 hard drive, I was at Superstore in Metrotown (Vancouver) the other day and they had a whole bunch of smaller ones with a 25% clearance discount.

20GB refurbished = $19.44 - 25% = $14.58
60GB brand new = $34.44 - 25% = $25.83

Both prices obviously have HST on top (why are we still paying HST, I thought we killed that?). If you have a 10% employee discount card, it stacks in the best way (10% of the full price comes off the discounted price) I didn't see any larger sizes. They come with extras like headsets and 3 month Gold cards.

There were also some 12 month "Messenger Gold Packs" for $80 (minus 25%, minus 10% if that's available to you, plus HST) that come with 12 months of Gold, Project Gotham Racing 4, and a chatpad/headset.

Edit: I should mention that the drives are for the fat Xbox360, not the slim, if that wasn't obvious. Although you could potentially swap these official drives into slim enclosures, or use these official enclosures to build your own 250GB drives, or whatever.

You'd pay the same amount in PST and GST.... it's not like we're getting rid of sales tax.

Yeah, but we held a referendum to abort that boldfaced lie of a tax, and actually managed to kill it, and that was six months ago. It just randomly occurred to me that we're still paying it.

And Google says we're still going to pay it for another 12 months...

Yup, the transition back would take a while... not to mention the billions wasted because of the reversal. Personally I didn't mind it since I do not go out to eat much and think the wasted billion to reverse the tax was not worth it. ;p

Oh, that. It was hard to get in Canada when it came out originally already. On the RB forums, people ordered from guitar stores in the US.

It's probably cheaper to just buy Rock Smith at this point. :p

Undoubtedly so. But I can't play Rock Smith with friends.

Perhaps I'll trawl auction sites and classifieds until I can find it for under $500 shipped.

And if we hadn't, we could have it 11% by that time and 10% the year after :( Goddammit BC.

10% across the board would've just pushed it back down towards neutral. And they only offered that after polls said the HST was doomed.

And of course, 10% would only have kicked in after the Liberals finished spending the 12% HST money. Which is around the time they're eventually going to give us back the PST/GST. There was never any way to get back the money they took and spent (and are technically still taking and spending).

I'm in favor of 10% HST, but I hated how the Liberals handled just about everything around it.

Any idea where I can buy a Rock Band 3 Fender Squier Stratocaster? And/Or the PS3 adapter?
Where are you located? I have it (and the 360 Midi Pro adapter), but I haven't got the chance to use it much and was considering selling it. This hassle of shipping it and trying to sell it on eBay or Kijij/Craigslist has prevented me from doing anything with it yet though.

HST amalgamation only changes what is taxable with PST. Basically anything that was exempt from PST but did have GST on it suddenly had both(minus anything the legislation exempt from the HST). Anything that already had both taxes on it hasn't changed at all.

Well that's my experience in Ontario anyway. The only thing I've paid more money on here had been on tickets to some events since the Canadian content and under 3200 capacity, and a couple other PST exemptions on tickets went away. Otherwise the amount of tax I pay has been pretty much the same as far as I can tell. I can't even think of anything else I buy that used to be PST exempt that isn't any longer.

Also, looks like you can get Kinect + ME3 + Kinect Adventure... for $149.

I would bang a hot farmer!

The biggest thing for me in Ontario is gas. Paying an extra 8% is a kick in the balls.

How to get a killer deal on a 3DS:

Go to Shoppers Drug Mart where it will be on sale for $150 this week. Sign up for the Optimum program if you haven't already as March 3-6 is an 18500 bonus point event for spending $75, so you should get about 20000 points in total for your purchase, and those points can be worth as much as $50 if you save them up for one of the super redemptions that usually happen in June and December. Get a $20 mail in rebate from Nintendo: http://www.nintendo.ca/3DSrebate/

The only way you could do much better is if you wait for the next 20x Optimum event and the 3DS is still on sale for $150 that week (as it often seems to be at Shoppers). Nintendo's rebate goes till April 16th, and 20x events happen about once a month, so it's possible, but personally I wouldn't hold out.

Until Mar 5: $10 off any video game $30 & up @ Bestbuy (in-store only) w/ coupon - http://ow.ly/9qeLN - Excludes sale items
Yes! Tales of the Abyss 3D will be mine!

Edit: And of course after being in stock before and the website showing in stock, they're actually out of stock at all locations that are easy for me to get to. Cambie says they have a shipment that should arrive Monday at least...

If anyone was wondering, I can confirm you can use this promotion with price matching. So effectively if the item is on sale at a store OTHER than BB, you can get the sale price (if it's over $30, that is).

Yesterday I picked up Star Fox 64 3D, which price matched with Amazon, came out to just about $30.50. Works sublimely with the coupon. :)

Not sure if I want to get Skyrim or not for $39.99 ... I cancelled my pre-orders on Radiant Historia and Kid Icarus: Uprising already because I have too many games to finish at the moment.

I'm sure Skyrim is going to take up a large portion of my time and at the WRONG time, I have to finish up this semester and by April Xenoblade will be here.

Any tips on getting a Mass Effect 3 CE (360)? I pre-ordered at one store and they said I'd get it if they get it, but they're not 100% sure. They generally always get LE's, so...

It'll still be cheaper later. And if you wait a year, you can have a nice GOTY Edition with a bunch of DLC included. ;)

I love Skyrim, and have no regrets about buying it on the Steam Sale, but you could definitely buy it later and save

So I pre-ordered SSX last summer from Best Buy and just checked my order status: "Shipment Cancelled". What does that even mean. They did send me a promo code via e-mail. Best Buy -_-

Edit: And Cave Story 3DS is still in pre-order status...31/12/2012 release date...

Man, preordering Devil Survivor 2 from BestBuy.ca was a bad idea.

Still "processing".

And the product page says out of stock.

So did I get fucked over? Should I just cancel and try to find it somewhere else?

Edit: Just read the post above mine. Screw it, BB is a shithole. Ordering from VGP.
