LNT-4061 1080p
The service people are coming on thursday and bring a lot of internal stuff. The Service tech guy called me 2 hours ago saying they will try and fix it but if it is the panel (screen), they might have to make another visit. SIGH.......... I should have know this was going to happen. My firmware was old which meant my board was old, I checked AVSforums about this. Hopefully a new board will fix this problem. |

So I just bought myself a 22" HPw2207 LCD monitor this past weekend but I need a little help. Maybe I'm a little anal, but I want this thing to look as best as it possibly can and I'm not so sure I'm doing a good job at calibrating. My problem is most of the calibration software I've tried, including the pre-packaged crap that came with my LCD are really tough for me to get through. Especially the part with the red, green and blue color squares that I need to somehow cross my eyes to try and match the color strip to the part of the square with black lines going through it. lol
Can any of you videophiles recommend to me a really thorough, but easy to use software or at least a good technique I can use to calibrate my monitor? This set up is killing me or at least slowly blinding me at this point. Thanks! |

Question about speaker placement:
For the left & right surround speakers, I know it's generally recommended that they be placed a bit behind the listening position, 2-3 feet above ear level. Sliding door of my den kind of makes that a problem for the left one, and the best I'd be able to do for the position I have planned would be to place it above the door, which would put it at about 4 feet above ear level... Would this be okay? I can place it beside the door if not, but I'd have to move my position foward a bit more than I'd like(wouldn't leave much room in between the sofa and the TV, no coffee table. :(). And as for the rear speakers, are they usually placed at the same level as the surround speakers? Or do you leave those at ear level? |

Maybe a little OT...
My Xbox 360 is connected via optical cable to my amp, and it worked like a charm 'til yesterday. The last time I powered the console the sound was only stereo, no more dolby digital. I checked the console settings, and everything's fine, and I made a quick test about my amp and my speakers. Everything works fine. Help me, gaf! |

I'm totally loving my 42LB5D. Still needs some fine-tuning as far as calibration goes, but Bioshock looks so fucking good as it is... oh man...

I am looking to trade up from a Sony 36" CRT (all 230lbs of it getting donated to local charity) which has 1080i through component but a fairly murky picture. I want an LCD 1080p (native) tv which will have enough inputs to connect my Wii, 360, PS3 and DirectTV HD-DVR. My ideal size would be between 42" and 46" for the living room.
After some research I've seen some LG and Samsung displays which seem to be generally well reviewed. However, nothing's popped out at me. This thread seems to not have a general consensus except that Samsungs seem to be favored. Does anyone have a suggestion for a particular model that might fit my criteria? I'd appreciate the help, as my old TV is going away next week. ![]() |

Quick question:
Does tearing only happen when using HD sources? I want to test my TV for tearing but so far, the only HD source I have is an xbox 360. I've seen tearing but I can't tell if it's just tearing from games (GOW and Blue Dragon particularly) or my Sammy is defective. Btw, it's a Samsung LNT3253H 1020 FW.

So I went to Best Buy today w/ the intention of buying a 50'' Sony A3000. I want a big screen and the Halo hype is running through my blood, and I had memories of when I was playing the beta on a 61'' 1080p Sammy. So I get there and decide to look at the plasmas, and I stumble upon the Pioneer 5080, which I've seen before I just wanted to take another look.
*sigh* My heart is set on that Pio, but I don't think my wallet is. The thing runs at 3,400 @ Best Buy, and they didn't even have the 1080p Pio's so I couldn't compare altho I know those are probably like 5K. :( :( |

Sony VPL-VW60, the pearl's successor released. Better and cheaper than the previous iteration.
C'mon! Where are those laser bulb projectors? Failing that... I'll be picking one of these babies up. Next year. :p http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gajillion...oes-291609.php http://www.pricejapan.com/front/e_re...y=11&in_maker= |

A bit OT but DAMN! I'm having a hard time finding a charity here in NYC that will come pick up my tv. That shit is worth $400-$500 in its current condition. A Sony 1080i TV from 2000. All I keep hearing on the phone is, "We don't pick up single items" and "Is that all you have to donate?"
Anyone know an orginization equiped to take thing TV off my hands and put it to good use? |

But I chose this set for a few reasons - 1) A cheap(ish) 1080P set without a "catch" for its relatively low price. I knew I wanted to make the jump from SD to HD, but I didn't want to half-ass it with a 720P set since 1080P is going to do nothing but become more and more common. I don't see the point in someone going HD for the first time right now, but only going 720P. You'll still be playing catch-up. 2) Fast LCD response time, making it good for gaming. 3) (relatively) high contrast ratio, meaning the set has good black levels compared to other LCD. Samsung has a higher-end LCD (6165F) that has a 15,000:1 ratio. This set is 10,000:1. For someone like me that isn't a huge videophile I felt like the better ratio wouldn't be worth the additional cost. 10K:1 is still very good. ...those were my reasons, but I'm not really an A/V guy, so what do I know. |

I was asked a few pages ago to post my impressions on the Samsung 46" LNT4671F when I got it. Well, my impression would be, holy shit.
I've never owned a HD set before and this is my first, but I noticed no problems that you are typically told to look for with these sets, even the famed triple ball effect for football wasn't noticed but I haven't looked for that too much. Blacks are very black, everything on the PS3/360 under HDMI is gorgeous. |

Finally got a 360 and an HDTV to replace my 10 year old 20 inch SDTV.
Went with a 37 inch 1080i Olevia 237t. I live in New York City and living rooms here are pretty universally small, so 37 inch is plenty big for my purposes. I have little interest in the PS3 library, so 1080p didn't seem like a big deal. I'm very very happy with it, especially for $750 with shipping and tax. Turning PIP on and off is a pain, and I don't like the menus very much, but the picture seems very nice to me. Then again I'm not exactly a videophile, either. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a decent sized budget HDTV. |

For a 360 owner, this is great. Not every 1080p TV will do this. To summise, it's flexible, lower cost and bigger screen, amazing Picture Quality.
