A couple quick recommendation, Pagan's Mind and Symphony X unless you really do mean "Operatic" and maybe my recommendations are completely off! Who knows. |

MetalGaf, can you steer me in the direction of stuff like this?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlhKrhukloQ The band is Grey Waters. A small Australian group with only an EP, but it's such awesomely catchy stuff. I'm not sure what to categorize it as. Kinda just rock-ish? You know, one drum beat for the whole song, but with a lot of layering and emotional drive. Give them a listen. EDIT: Scratch doomy; I barely even know what Doom metal is half of the time.

Spanks, man. I've only heard Alcest out of that list. Percees de Lumiere and Ecailles de Lune (II) are really the only songs of theirs that I care for, but they are pretty damn fantastic. They can get a bit samey, which may sound stupid after rating Grey Waters so much, but GW's limited material is just that infectious.

Light bearer is fucking amazing. The get the whole "symphonic" (I hate the term when applied to rock) thing so much better than any band that labels themselves as symphonic metal or whatever. These guys actually understand dynamics, and they don't reak of disgusting 80's cheese. |

This thread has been way more active than usual lately, and I highly approve
Has anyone heard of the Ragnarokkr Metal Apocalypse festival? My friend just tipped me off to it today, and it seems like it will be a fucking awesome show Edit: Holy shit that image is huge. Anyway here is a link to the promotional poster with all of the bands that will be performing. And it's only $40 for the whole shebang! Splendid. Edit 2: I also maid (har har) an Iron Maiden thread. I figured some of you would like to participate in basking in the glory that is the ultimate classic metal band

Just lately i've come to realise that Bandcamp is one of the greatest ways to experience new music from people you've never heard of before...
Browsing through the Black Metal tags i found Oak Pantheon. They play a brand of atmospheric black metal with folk elements that's pretty damn good. I expect if you like Agalloch then you're in with a chance of liking these guys. I also found Issachar who remind me of a less good version of Between the Buried and Me |

You can listen to Megadeth's sound check for tonight. Its supposed to be a stream for an acoustic performance, but I think someone forgot to turn the camera off. My God Mustaine is such a dick. |

I've decided they need to make a shirt out of this album cover:
![]() Only not the usual lame "album cover on black" motif. They need to have the devil/demon in the center, with the flames around him wrapping all the way around the shirt. The entire shirt should be flames. It'd be awesome. I'd buy two. |

have you seen his guitar rig? its fucking pathetic. He has a tech guy whos job is to just switch effects / amps for him. I mean fuck, do it like ac dc. you plug your guitar into a marshall stack, and you mic that.

And even with all this, his live guitar tone is absolutely terrible, as is the band's mixing live. He used to have decent guitar tones, now he's endorsing that horrendous Zoom pedal and using massive stacks of digital modelers, it's embarrassing.

It is beyond me why the guitar wankers feel the urge to use huge effects racks like that. the best guitar sounds I've ever heard have pretty much been from either medium wattage amps used for a high gain but high harmonic based sound (think jesus lizard), or high wattage amps turned up to eleven to push the shit out of the power amps (austerity program, isis, mastodon, etc). the only exception to the "digital models fucking suck" rule seems to be jesu, but his use is so different from the other types its hard to compare (he uses a pod xt, but he doesnt use it to copy the meshugah sound, shock/awe).

Speaking of Meshuggah, they're doing some viral thing over on reddit and leaked a new song from the album: http://iamaleak.com/
I'm digging the slower tempos, very excited for Koloss, and the tour. |

![]() OLD SCHOOL DEATH n' THRASH. They are blowing up in the underground scene. This was filmed early last year. http://youtu.be/TRwTLYRRlrQ This is a song off their new album. Self-titled track. This is the way I like my Death Metal. With small touch of cross-over. SAVAGE STREETS - SAVAGE STREETS |

Of what I've heard, Symphony X are by far and away the best of the 3; they're shit now, but songs like The Edge of Forever, Accolade I/II, The Eyes of Medusa, Egypt, etc are fucking rad. Actually, I think the only RoF song I've heard is Under the Rain of a Thousand Flames and it kinda sucks balls :S |
