I bought two Dragonforce albums recently and I kinda regret it because every song sounds the same and it gives me a headache to listen to a whole album. Seems good for working out though, at least jogging/running becuase it's never slow.

any opinions on the 3 Inches of Blood? I'm very borderline on them because it's approaching the type of music that I don't like. I love Cam Pipes' vocals (clean screaming vocals), but Hooper's vocals, while they add a cool contrast to the vocals, I could do without 'em. Obviously the band would not be the same, but I would love them for it. That and if the guitar was a little slower and more epic, and less craziness on the drums.

On a random note, everyone owes it to themselves to listen to Phantom Limb.

And for the gentler metal fan, Dragonland's not bad at all. Quite good, even. Decent balance of heavy to flowery, as far as PM goes.

Dragonland's Starfall album is pretty good. I dunno what you have/what was recommended, though.

I like the band At Vance a lot. They've got some really kickass shit. Bloodbound's Nosferatu album is rockin also.

Planning on seeing Behemoth this December after missing a gig of theirs 1-2years ago :\. Will probably be a tad disappointed that they will try to appeal the audience with a more Death oriented setlist focusing on the newer material.

Gotta say though; every time i see your username, i always smile at how awesome Cryptopsy's None So Vile was. Especially when i managed to see Cryptopsy live with Lord Worm, along with an awesome Flo drum solo.

Wow, a lot of brilliant bands popping up here. I'll listen to anything, but I usually graduate to the heavier stuff.

A couple of people have posted Amon Amarth stuff, I've got their discography and I consider this on by far and away their best album..

Once you hear the main riff in the first track, Death in Fire, you'll be sucked in. Fantastic album all the way through.

Also, a lot of Nevermore has been posted. Which is great, their stuff is excellent.

That's my favorite Nevermore album. Dead Heart in a Dead World. Nothing beats Narcosynthesis and Engines of Hate.

Shit, how could I forget this one...they haven't got a mention in this thread I think...

Akercocke - Words that go unspoken, Deeds that go undone.

It's a blend of the extremely heavy and clean vocals. Hard to describle. But one of the best new bands I've got into recently. For the crowd that likes the heavier shit.

Try Baroness - Red Album or the new Sun Caged, then.

They're a fun band. They really don't do anything new or proficient. The metalcore influence does give the band a broader appeal as it makes the power metal "edgier" but apparently it doesn't matter all that much since hardcore scenesters love power metal. Well at least Dragonforce. I guess the Mach 5 tempos and repetitive songwriting is reminiscent of bad hardcore and metalcore for them.

I don't know what it is, but I could never understand the appeal of Nile either, even though people were constantly raving about them. I tried listening to Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka and Annihilation of the Wicked but they never did anything for me. Strangely, I decided to check out their most recent album Ithyphallic, and I actually loved it. I still can't seem to get into their older stuff, but damned if I don't have Ithyphallic playing on my iPod almost daily.

I felt that Eschaton was their most extreme release. Sure, Codex Necro was a noisy, industrial-influenced aural assault, but Eschaton had more grind influence, more brutal riffs, more fucking aggression.

After seeing each release Anaal put out get more and more extreme, I was eagerly awaiting this release. It's a bit of a step down from Eschaton. It's more melodic and a bit toned down, with a LOT more clean vocals. And if you didn't like V.I.T.R.I.O.L.'s clean vox on Eschaton, you'll prolly like this album less. Fortunately, I kinda like them so it's still a really solid album.

Although I'd like to see another Codex Necro, I don't see AN going back to a more minimalistic, noisy black metal. I do want to see what more they can put out, but with this release, I have the feeling that their creativity is starting to run dry.

Its definitely inferior to ACoG, but even that album was a roller coaster in terms of quality. There were some amazing songs like Face of My Innocence but other songs were kind of underwhelming. They are a good band, just kind of inconsistent.

Ive always heard about Anaal Nathrakh but never really checked them out. I decided to do so due to your praise of their new album and I must say, this is some amazing stuff. Incredibly brutal but still with a sense of melody. How would you rank their albums in terms of quality?

They all range between 8/10 and 8.5/10, but my order of preference:

Eschaton
The Codex Necro
Domine Non Es Dignus
Hell Is Empty and All the Devils Are Here

The Crown - "Deathrace King" (2000)

Quite possibly the best death/thrash metal album of all time. I could go into some wordy explanation as to why, but suffice it to say, this album has a song called "Total Satan" on it. Any band that names a song "Total Satan" can surely do no wrong.

Also, have to give a shout out for my favorite album of this year...
