Gaming podcast that deserve more love.

I'm a huge postcard fan. Been one since the 1up Yiurs days (....pour one out for the OG).

With that being said one that i think needs some more love in here is Radio Free Nintendo.

Jonny Mets, James Jones and the crew do a great job of delivering a Nintendo-based podcasts without sounding like they are so beholden to a Nintendo-based agenda.

Of course yes they predominantly talk about Nintendo, but they all own other platforms that they play regularly and they don't view Nintendo games/decisions/platforms in a vacuum. Have been happily surprised after coming across this one a couple years back.

Below are all the main ones I subscribe to. Some newer than others for me.

Videogamer UK is pretty good, Good bunch of lads that have a bit of fun with the show and give each other shit all the time. Also looking forward to what the Giant Beastcast becomes, first few episodes have been pretty good, I was maybe expecting a touch more.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
I've mentioned this a lot in threads like these, but I really enjoy The Rotating Platform. Its basically a bunch of ex-UK magazine writers talking about games, past and present. Their passion for gaming really shines through.

There's silly moments too like when they try and completely fail to perform a pop classic with Jam With The Band DS. It's a very entertaining podcast, especially if you miss the NGamer magazine style humour.

Yep. GameTrailers really transformed itself over the last year and a half and found their voice, and it was great. GT Time is what I'll listen to, to escape cynicism and negativity, which can sometimes be easy to fall into with this hobby. They are just good people, and it's super positive energy.

Agreed. Really like everyone on the site tbh.

Glad they went to YouTube aswell. I honestly think part of the reason gt started dieing was because they only had one player to watch their videos. It is the worst player I can fucking imagine.

Doesn't do 60fps.
Video quality looks like dogshit.
Rewinding/fast forwarding is a complete crap shoot.

My use of the site went up 10 fold when they went to YouTube.

Very small podcast that I enjoy is here: www.debacalypse.com. Group of friends that obviously like games just get around and talk, which to me some podcasts have really gotten away from. Only thing is that I wish they were more consistent in their releases.

I really like Retro Asylum. Episodes are quite long and in-depth, and they have a lot of different contributors who rotate each show. Interesting to get a retro perspective from somewhere where the games industry didn't collapse in the 80s too, whereas most American retro podcasts I listen to treat 83-85 like a black hole.

RetroCollect is another good retro podcast from the UK, albeit more irregular than Retro Asylum.

Yeah sorry it's not as regular, we just don't have the time, well I don't sadly. We'll hopefully be more regular going forward, but I am not sure how often I'll be involved after the summer.

Also, I find it extremely hard to listen to audio only podcasts.

I can watch whole podcasts on ign no problem because they're video.

Video Game Hot Dog is my favorite gaming podcast that no one else listens to. It's hosted by the guys behind Kingdom of Loathing along with Jim Crawford, the guy who made Frog Fractions, and they mostly talk about indie games and a bit about AAA games with tons of tangents off into fucking insanity and whatever they want. They're hilarious, and the podcast is one I look forward to every week.

They're also good bros with the Idle Thumbs guys. They share office space with Campo Santo, and if you listen to Idle Thumbs, a lot of the stories they share are about hanging out with the VG Hot Dog guys, like Jake's recent story about doing a room escape. They've even been guests on Idle Thumbs a few times.

And they have a very infrequent podcast that gets posted to their feed, hosted by all women in the industry, called Video Games Taco. It's the same basic level of discussion and humor, and the only bummer is they post like once every couple months.

http://videogameshotdog.com/

These guys rule, and KoL doesn't get enough love these days. I came in here to suggest this show as well, glad to see someone beat me to it. The addition of Jim has really helped round out the discussion, I think - he's got a different point of view than the others, but he fits in well enough with the stupid shit they talk about as well.

VG Taco is hosted by their girlfriends, I believe.

US Gamer "From US to You" is it's own worst enemy for self promoting.

Here is the US Gamer site. Where is the average person supposed to find the podcast? It's their own fault if they have a small listenership (I am a listener). It's a joke

Harsh but true. I like everyone involved with that site, but they seem to do everything possible to make sure people don't listen to their flagship podcast, including burying it in their website, and randomly skipping weeks between episodes.

I only got into podcasts a couple months ago..I now listen to them all day every day. So many good sounding recs in this thread! My list has just grown hugely.

My current smaller favourites have already been mentioned but I'll mention them again because I dearly love them..

Duckfeed.tv - especially Bonfire-side Chat (Souls/FROM obsession) and Watch Out for Fireballs!.. Always interesting, funny and good hearted.

Also Midnight Resistance, Twin Humanities, Daft Souls, Cane and Rinse. Thankyou all, people that make these shows! You're lovely <3

The Scorecast - Foreigners in Japan. Company founded by a foreigner. They always have a guest who is also in the industry and is a foreigner. It is amazing

Super Marcato Bros. Videogame Music Podcast - The best podcast for videogame music

They also might be my top 2 podcasts that are on a more regular release basis.
On a side note we have a thread for the Scorecast so please join in if you are listening. I just found the thread a week or so ago.
I will be making weekly Super Marcato Bros threads because I really think people should listen to this and we have plenty of GAFers who love videogame music.

Wow thanks for turning me on to Super Marcato Bros. Going to starting diving into that.

Also awesome to see everyone recommend GT Time. Very very good podcast and very good vibes.

Has Shane and Marcus put out an audio-only version for iTunes yet? Can't find it in the AppStore.

Sadly no. The podcast is only for premium members of Siftd––i've been trialling out the site and have had access to it. To be honest they need a better video player ever since they ditched YouTube.

Kinda Funny gamescast, Kinda funny live on twitch for free or youtube if you are a patreon are freaking awesome if you like Greg Miller and Colin Moriarty.

Beast cast is also great because Vinny.

DLC is one of the less popular podcasts I enjoy.

Chic pixel plus is not as often but i always enjoy listening to it.

I listened to 1UP Yours back in the day and i was hooked every single week. I loved that podcast so much that me and my friend decided to start our own.

I hate to toot my own horn, but we've been around for a year now and have gotten a pretty good following.
We just recorded our latest podcast with Krysti Pryde from The Tester, and cosplay star Alexia Jean Grey.

Literally just uploaded it.

For a split second I thought your podcast was about pornstars that play videogames and I thought to myself "well that is an interesting angle that is bound to get some listeners" but then after looking at your page it wasn't quite like that. Just a coincidence that the podcast name and image used for the latest episode lines up that well.

I'll give your podcast a try.

Gamers With Jobs gets my vote. Insightful, mature, funny and extremely well produced. Occasional board game talk but other than top tier.

Just checked out Crate and Crowbar thanks to this thread. Really entertaining so far.

I'm loving Super Marcato Bros. Thanks for the suggestion!

SuperBestFriendCast is still my go to gaming podcast for almost two years, though they already have too much love.

Though my other choice that totally deserve more love is the Stop Skeletons Podcast, it's by Derek Alexander (formerly known as Happy Video Game Nerd) and his budy Jared (I think), it's just two dudes talking about games and gaming news and they're pretty good without sounding too forced for comedy. My fave still is their talk on Big Money Hustlas and Rustlas.

It only tangentially counts since they banned combatants from video games, anime, and comics this season, but Violence Island is still a great podcast. And even given the new restrictions last episode still featured a fight that was essentially samus aran vs. bionic commando.

The format of the show is 8 people randomly chosen from real life or fiction are placed in a single elimination tournament, and the panel of three arbiters decides who would win each fight. Season 1 had plenty of videogame shenanigans, and season two still manages to sneak some in thanks to the armory, which randomly assigns some sort of weapon or item to each participant(like the varia suit or the bionic arm).

Also the website URL is awesome:

Hell, if others are promoting their own show.....

My team and I have a podcast called "The Outerhaven Podcast", we've been around for 3-4 years now. We talk about ongoings in the video game scene,comics/manga, tech and basically another involving geek culture.

Link - http://www.tohpodcast.com

iTunes - link
Podbean - link

The cast is always changing, we rotate to get everyone a chance on the show and we do interviews, specials and all sorts of fun stuff. We're pretty.... hectic, funny yet serious. Definitely looking for feedback to improve our show, so please give a few episodes a listen to.

I subscribed to this thread just so I can a few podcasts that are off the beaten path. As for the ones that I listen to that are not super popular/can recommend are:

-DLC- Cannata Confirmed. It's a spiritual successor to the now defunct Weekend Confirmed (RIP Andrew Yoon) more or less to a T. I got back into listening to it a few weeks ago after a long hiatus (mostly forgetting it exists) and hearing Jeff Cannata's pipes and Christian Spicer's sarcastic remarks have been great. It kinda sucks that they don't take calls any more when it's live but I imagine it's for the better. They just had Garnet Lee on again for this week harkening back to the Weekend Confirmed days and Marcus Beer last week.
-From Us To You!-Cheesy title aside, when they record an episode, it's great and it doesn't overstay its welcome. I can listen to Jeremy Parish talk about stuff all day with how much I respect him because his taste in games are similar to mines. Every staff member has their own little rant on a topic such Kat Bailey's Sports Minute and Mike Williams' Comics Discussion which is a nice touch.
-Axe of the Blood God-Kat Bailey's RPG centric podcast. If you like RPG's then this is for you. This is another podcast that doesn't overstay its welcome. It's great.
-Nintendo Voice Chat- This is the only other podcast I listen to to get my Nintendo centric fix. Jose Otero is a great host and Peer Schneider is always excited about any game that they discuss. Hearing Brian gush as a Nintendo fan outside of his certain off-topic podcast with his boys is refreshing. I'll agree that the episodes of late have been a bit light on content which is a bummer given how busy they've been but they promise to change that this week. They had Wired's Chris Kohler on about 2-3 weeks ago who is another endlessly fascinating guy with so many great stories.
-Radio Free Nintendo-The other Nintendo podcast that I listen to. It's great although sometimes conversations can get a bit out of hand with people wanting to jump in at once. Minor nitpick aside, it's another mature and light hearted Nintendo podcast with occasionally serious reader mail questions (which are good in and of themselves).

Slightly off-topic but are there any good Spanish language gaming podcasts out there? As a Spanish speaker, I'm intrigued to expand my vocabulary.

I appreciate the feedback (positive and critical) about From US To You! in this thread. I'm very mindful of the show's flaws, and I've done a lot of thinking and planning over the past month to overcome a lot of the issues mentioned here (especially consistency and frequency). The new episode reflects those changes. We actually tried to produce an episode in this new format a couple of weeks ago, but I had an equipment failure that prevented us from recording.

It still needs some fine-tuning, but I've attempted to create a more modular approach that maintains the same overall vibe of the show while offering a lot of flexibility. It takes a little bit for the new format to click, but give the episode about five minutes and you'll find it loosens up.

Ha, I'm not complaining. Listening to the Shinobi episode as I type this.

GT Time & BonusRound are really good, but I watch them semi regularly.

The only one that I always watch is Co-Optional Podcast with TotalBiscuit, Jesse Cox & Dodger all YouTubers with a new guest each week. I disagree with TB many times, but come back to the podcast. They talk about what they played this week, then NEWS and what games come out next week. It is live on twitch and 2 days later on YouTube. I guess you have to like the people and with the hate for TB this is really hit or miss for most people here.

Cheers, bro. One day we'll see weekly threads on GAF that reach 5+ pages of discussion about new episodes of VG Hot Dog. One day.

On paper I was hesitant because it removes potential for interesting interactions between staff members. But in practice it didn't really change the discussion a whole lot because it was generally you and whoever brought up a given topic anyway. If this format is makes it easier to get shows out then stick to it.

Outlaw Gamer Radio.

These are the former Epic Battle Axe guys who were on Gametrailers. Man I miss that show and podcast. Sometimes Daniel Keyzer still comes on. He's at Retro Magazine now.

Some pretty in depth discussion on gaming related topics. Really good show, and all community funded/supported. Hope more people check them out.

Laser Time podcast have been a favorite of mine lately. They have a video game podcast called Vidjya Game Apocalypse where they do a quick top five list centered around a topic followed by news and listener feedback. The premise is sometimes just an excuse to talk about whatever they want or ties into some current thing going on in the news. Very easy to put on an older episode to listen to.

Don't forget about VGMpire! A gaming music podcast that is great for a bit of history and entertaining anecdotes about each series/subject.

I listen to

Retrogaming Roundup
Intellevisionaries

All great.

And if it's ok to say... I saw a few other guys mention theirs... I also host a Japanese Retrogaming/current gaming podcast called Famicom Dojo. We have done 120 episodes so far and are always looking for feedback.
