UPDATE:
Rainmaker Mode revealed:

In Rainmaker, both teams compete
to snag the Rainmaker. Once you've got it, the goal is to
carry it into the other team's base!

So as soon as the battle begins,
grab that Rainmaker!

It's guarded by a shield, though,
so you'll need to bust it out first.

Once you snag it, head for the other
team's base. And be quick about it!

If you run out of time or get splatted,
the Rainmaker will be dropped. Its shield will also reactivate.

The Rainmaker is crazy heavy, so you
can't Super Jump while carrying it. Your teammates will have to
watch your back!

The Rainmaker can also shoot ink like
an Inkzooka, so you can clear a path!

The closer you get to the enemy
base while holding the Rainmaker, the lower your goal distance will drop.

If the battle ends without anyone
carrying the Rainmaker to the goal, the team with the lowest
goal distance will win!

UPDATE 2:
Sheldon's descriptions for additional weapons

With its wide muzzle, the
Sploosh-o-matic is
specialized for close-combat
situations. Beat back the enemy while
placing Squid Beakons on
their turf, and then mop up
with the deadly Killer Wail ! This weapon set excels at
opening holes in the
opponents' defenses for
your teammates to exploit.

The Neo Sploosh-o-matic
is a custom Sploosh-o-matic
emblazoned with an original
emblem. Mark your opponents with
the Point Sensor , and then
crush them with the
power of the Kraken ! Getting in close is vital for
this setup, so it is suited to
battlers who excel at
flanking their foes.

The Neo Splash-o-matic has
the same capabilities as the
original set, but with new
sub and special weapons. Hit your opponent with
Burst Bombs , and then give
them a taste of precision
shooting! With the Inkzooka too, this
is a set for an aggressive
sharpshooter who's not
afraid to get messy!

Ah yes, the N-ZAP '89 . This
is quite simply an N-ZAP '85
that was redesigned for...
legal reasons. It includes a Sprinkler to
rapidly increase your turf,
allowing you to fire off
remarkably fast Inkstrikes ! This set is excellent at
striking where the foe
least expects it. Good for
lone wolves!

The Custom Dual Squelcher
is exactly what it sounds
like—a Dual Squelcher with
a custom look! What's new is the Squid
Beakon , letting you lead
your team, and the Killer
Wail to pressure your foes! I'd say it's perfect for
master tacticians who can
keep track of the entire
field of battle.

The Luna Blaster is a
specialized shooter that
can unleash explosive
power at close range! Its rate of fire is good,
and its blasts cover a wide
area, but you'll need the
Inkzooka to hit far-off foes. Oh, and the Ink Mines can
really make a difference in
the right hands, so this set
is perfect for veterans!

The Luna Blaster Neo is
a remodeled Luna Blaster
made with original parts. The Splat Bombs and Bomb
Rush ensure that you'll
cause a riot of inksplosions
wherever you go! This is definitely a set for
those who prefer to throw
caution to the wind and
charge into the fray!

As the name suggests, the
Range Blaster is a Blaster
with shots that travel
farther before exploding. Its fire rate is reduced,
but the combination of
explosive power and range
can be positively deadly! Complemented by the
Splash Wall and Inkstrike ,
it's perfect for distance
fighters!

The Custom Range Blaster
is, as you might expect, a
Range Blaster with a slick
customized appearance. It has the same stats but
comes with Splat Bombs to
compensate for its lack of
efficacy at close range. Coupled with the powerful
Kraken , this set should
prove popular with blaster
virtuosos!

The Rapid Blaster Pro is
based on the Rapid Blaster,
but it's further specialized
for increased range. Follow your Seekers to zip
into an advantageous
position and strike from
your opponent's blind spot! The Inkzooka makes this a
great set for frontline
fighters who like to cause
big problems for their foes!

The Rapid Blaster Pro Deco
may be a bit of a mouthful,
but it's worth it for that
snazzy decoration! Its stats match the Rapid
Blaster Pro's, but it includes
Disruptors to weaken your
foes before you splat them! Oh, and your Killer Wail can
restrict them even more!
Give this set a try if that's
your sort of thing.

The L-3 Nozzlenose D is a
standard L-3 Nozzlenose,
decorated with badges from
its manufacturer. Its stats are unchanged,
but this set includes Burst
Bombs and the Kraken —
an aggressive combination! Attack with a Burst Bomb ,
and then finish them with
your shooter. It's an easy
set to get the hang of!

The H-3 Nozzlenose is a
semiautomatic with more
firepower than its L-3 twin.
The H stands for "heavy"! It can't fire as rapidly, but
you can pinpoint foes
with the Echolocator to
make every shot count! Suction Bombs can also
make an effective defense,
so this set is a good choice
for well-rounded fighters!

The H-3 Nozzlenose D is an
H-3 Nozzlenose decorated
with added badges from the
manufacturer. The badges don't actually
affect its abilities, but it
does include a Point Sensor
and the mighty Inkzooka . In the right hands, this
interesting combination of
abilities may give rise to
many unique strategies!

The Carbon Roller is a
lightweight roller built with
low-density parts for
increased handling! Soften up the foe with
Burst Bombs while you ink
the ground and prepare to
unleash the Inkzooka ! Want to use a roller but
don't like feeling weighed
down? Now you can have
your cake and eat it too!

The Carbon Roller Deco is a
Carbon Roller specially
decorated by top designers. It can be hard inking a path
quickly with a roller, but
Seekers and Bomb Rush can
help you to do just that! Now you can approach foes
quickly and swing your
roller in their face! Perfect
for hit-and-run tactics!

The Inkbrush Nouveau has
the same abilities as the
Inkbrush , but it comes with
quite a different setup! You can use the brush to
swiftly lay Ink Mines . Your
opponents won't know
what hit 'em! And since you can share the
Bubbler with your allies,
this is a great set if you
like to support your team!

The Octobrush is a brush
with denser bristles that
fling even more ink with
each swipe! Use that mobility to scatter
Squid Beakons everywhere,
giving your whole team free
rein of the battlefield! No need to hesitate—you
can always use the Kraken
to run away in a pinch.
Your team will love you!

The Octobrush Nouveau
matches the Octobrush in
stats but features an all-
new sub and special setup! More specifically, it comes
with the versatile Splat
Bomb and Inkzooka for
maximum ease of use. Brushes are a fun weapon
type to use, so I'd use this
set to get the hang of
using brushes.

So Rainmaker has some kind of mechanic like the single player campaign has in terms of shooting a target till it explodes

That's a lot of upcoming content very exciting

PAULINK

I microwave steaks.
Man, so originally I thought the reasoning of releasing with only 5 maps was because of time constraints, but no, they were just locking it on disc behind a proprietary time limit... really poor decision on their part. I've gotten my fill of the released maps about a week after it came out, at this point i've been biding my time and waiting for the rest to roll out but to know that they intentionally did this rubs me the wrong way.

KingSnake

The Birthday Skeleton
Skyscraper's Turf War will be practically a Splat Zone and Skyscraper's Splazones will be insane.

Also, a ton of content still to come.

It looks like we are actually getting those Sunshine inspired stages after all. I wonder if that means the F.L.U.D.D. rumors are true too?

Well we've know this since the first time we got updates (especially if you play the SP campaign) since all the new content unlocked without downloading anything. I'm not crazy about how they handled this either but it has worked and kept me coming back to the game every week. I'd actually expect more companies to start doing this.

Well it should be noted that the Splatoon Direct promised at least 14 maps total while there are only 10 on the disc so there are still some surprises coming.

Skyscraper map's gonna be annoying to gain control lol, but it seems they don't block you from climbing up to the top of the walls like most map have.

Very interesting, the recent 'new' levels are not that good imo, (i don't like them).

I think it would be better to have a choice & let players vote for which one they want to play on, also there needs to be a way to change weapons/items without leaving the lobby.

I bet Nintendo are not happy about this, maybe they should have said something at E3?

You think we'll get new weapons, like...

- Sploosh-O-Matic
- Luna Blaster
- Range Blaster
- Rapid Blaster Pro
- Carbon Roller
- Octobrush
- Bloblobber
- Bigball
- Bamboozler
- Gatling

...until the August Update, which brings Custom Mode and other things...and variations of the items?

Did you play the single player? because some maps there were clearly designed for multi and are being added now. It was clear from day 1 that these were on disk. Also, no way they would develop and patch a new map every week, these things take moer time than that

In pretty sure this has been answered before, but has Nintendo mentioned if at some point they'll remove the whole 3 stage rotation cycle and just randomize among all of them when all is said and done?

Because even when they up the rotation to 3 at a time I don't think I'll be able to handle that. Right now I get bored after playing like 20 minutes because of the 2 map rotation.

Current weapon selection is already great and varied and the game is only gonna get better. Such a great experience. Also salt.

Tower Control in the middle of the two islands in Bluefin Depot? And it looks like it heads to one island instead of through the middle? And there's a ramp in the middle from both islands? Delicious.

Heck no also if it weren't for the those ass**** leakers you would've never know it was on a the disc and be happy with the updates.
Do you a favor stop reading leaks.

If I was Nintendo, I wouldn't have let that content on the disc and let my server crash when people would've needed to update their game for new content.
So no leaks.

kind of a sketchy way to make people thing you are giving away free dlc.

I kind of like how they are dripping out content slowly as opposed to having it all at once. It's kept the game fresh and has made content feel like an event.

I know that sounds like defending a bad practice. But just the entire way they roll content out within the world, I've really like it *shrugs*

So in other words, 50% of the on-disc content locked. At least it's free, I guess. But I really wish more maps and game modes were unlocked from the start - I might still be playing the game if they were.

Unless you already sold the game, you weren't that interested in the game to begin with since you know, you can still play it now.

Is the DLC confirmed to be free?

Everything in this topic is free.

Any single player content?

No, but that doesn't mean it can't be DLC down the line.

Lol wtf? Yeah those leakers are such assholes for showing us what's on the disc we paid for!
Unless you already sold the game, you weren't that interested in the game to begin with since you know, you can still play it now.
Or, you know, I'm tired of playing the same maps over and over due to the 2 map rotation which, let's face it, usually makes us play one map several times in a row. But no, I must not have been that interested in the game. That must be it!

Being in the data structure doesn't mean that everything it's already fully on the disk. Some of them might be just placeholders. We'll see when we'll need to download patches for updates.

That has nothing to do with unlocking more content at start. It can still be 4 hour 2 map rotations. Would you like to change your complaint?

I love the way that they roll this stuff out. Datamining it kind of ruins the surprise and fun of it. I'd rather experience the new content the way the designers intended me to.

And you don't realize that there are new game modes as well, apparently.

Japan had a 3-map rotation Splatfest and it went back to 2 maps afterwards. Did you quit the game in the first day because ranked wasn't unlocked 3 days afterwards?
