I really wish devs stopped using Alpha and Beta to just make it sound fancy.

Indeed. I own all the BF games and they never invite me to their Alphas. Maybe I own too many games, seems like people I know who own only 1 or 2 BF games from BC2 on get invited.

Like the message says it's a small scale technical test. Probably want to test the engine on a wide range of hardware. Having a technical test on the PS4 doesn't really help with that.
That said, I really hope there is a PS4 beta by the end of August.
