UK Software Sales (1st Half 2015)

Take away the exclusives (Bloodborn, Order, MLB, Screamrider) and I imagine the PS4/XB1 figures are even, which is odd because PS4 multiplats are always far ahead. I'm guessing XB1 exclusives from last year are still doing well.

XB1 has loads of exclusives this holiday tho, so will be interesting to see which ends up on top. Halo always does gangbusters in the UK.

I posted the similar remark earlier, but I remembered these figures also count bundled software. While both companies bundle software do it, MS does it more.

Plus I'm sure Bloodborn + Order didn't do that well (Probably less than 250K).

UK Retail is terrible, I haven't set foot in a GAME store in a while, I prefer hunting online for deals or buying digital.

The sales to date are surprising and much more even than I initially thought, I had the impression from GAF that X1 was doing terribly in UK.

3 : 2.3 is respectable.

I wonder what GAF you're reading because it's been discussed at length that X1 is not far behind PS4.

Man this is some terrible spin. Take away a bunch of games from the PS4 to prove the consoles sell a similar amount of software, alright.

PC physical only having 100k less than the 3DS and 150k more than the wiiu is fucking crazy yo.

Nobody i know that plays anything on pc buys physical anymore, and there's like 0 shelf space dedicated to it at most places.

You have a subset of people who don't know how to download games. Then a bunch of cases where it is cheaper to buy a physical edition. A lot of the time I'm buying a key that has been gutted from a physical box for £20 instead of paying £30-50 on Steam.

glad to see the Xbox one hanging in there and doing well in a place that isn't the USA. Even Sony fans should want to see MS do well because we need someone there keeping Sony Honest. If they were the only game in town we'd see a lot of the same arrogance and poor judgement they hey had back in the PS2/3 days

Competition is a good thing

EDIT - Is the PC figure just physical copies? i'm assuming it doesn't factor in digital sales

Missed this thread. Sorry, Bruno MB. I will repost my data here from other thread.

Thanks, ZhugeEX for the heads-up!

Edit:
The two newest consoles are absolutely huge in the UK market right now, with last-gen and portables taking a dive. All of Nintendo's platforms are down from 1H 2014.

Here is the units view.

Because that didn't happen with the Xbox One during it's initial reveal fresh from a "Competitive" generation.

I see this line being banded around when talking about the PS3 reveal, but one day someone is going to have to explain how the Xbox One happened to me.

No problem :)

I compiled this because I thought you had stooped doing it, your charts are much appreciated.

For tomorrow I was planning to have the definitive software sales total for the first half of 2008 - 2010. It's something a bit laborious because I have to manually check every MCV issue but I noticed that several links aren't working :(

http://www.mcvuk.com/digital-edition/archive/2008/01

Overall software sales:

1H 2015 - 9,342,111
1H 2014 - 10,697,000
1H 2013 - 11,340,000
1H 2012 - 13,752,016
1H 2011 - 20,750,483
1H 2010 -
1H 2009 -
1H 2008 -

That's super helpful.... and really sad to see that obvious decline in retail sales.

Someone get SuperData on the phone ask them to give us this data for the UK lol.

Oh Sure Microsoft is as subject to being full of themselves as Sony, that said i dont want to see either fail. its the same reason i dont want to see AMD fall to Intel or to Nvidia...

Doesn't this prove that the consoles are in serious trouble?

Some epic spin right here..you can;t take away games doesn't work that way. There won't be anything interesting about it, PS4 will sell more software then X1.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Retail PC > Wii U.

WOW.

PC physical only having 100k less than the 3DS and 150k more than the wiiu is fucking crazy yo.

Wow PC and Wii U neck and neck at retail.

Good news for PC gaming, bad news for Nintendo. For right now anyway.

As somebody not from the UK I find it kind of crazy that 3DS + Wii U SW sales combined are barely ahead of the PS3.

Although I guess its not that crazy considering PS3 still gets the big 3rd party stuff like FIFA and what not.

Also Vita :(

I always thought PS3 was still selling well, just lurking in Media Create threads. (I know MC is a different area) Its wild how much its still selling. I know TLoU and GTA 5 sold a ton of PS3 consoles when we didnt really know if GTA 5 was coming to current gen and an exclusive like TLoU launched. That plus other decent late PS exclusives right before current gen... And some cross gen games.... Hell, there might even be some games that released recently thats last gen only. (

And you leave my Vita alone.

Doesn't this prove that the consoles are in serious trouble?

IMO....no.

Huge contraction because 1 company isnt capitalizing on last gen home console success? Yea. But since forever the 1-2 home consoles has always been fine. Even for last gen remove the PS3 or 360 and 1-2 were still fine. Thats my new theory....1-2 have always been fine for home consoles...lol. Especially when we go from more than 3 consoles since home video games started...one time I think 8 were out...to back to back gens where its 3 only.... I think its fine.

Handheld....its really just been Nintendo. Overall it might look kinda bad for just Nintendo.

Console retail sales are in serious decline, certainly.

You have the likes of Activision getting 76% of their sales in Q1 this year from digital. The percentage of sales that come from digital is increasing year-on-year.

No, you confuse sell of games and sell of DLC/Micropayment/Season pass, etc...
Only 10 to 20 % of games was sold either by Steam/Xbox Live or PSN. The overwhelming of games sold, are physical games.

Many players doesn't realise the importance took by the DLC. For EA, it represent 1 billion $ just for last year.
http://www.pcgamer.com/electronic-arts-hopes-to-hit-1-billion-in-dlc-revenues-this-year/

I think Activision sells COD principally in fall, during christmas. After that, they gain money with Season Pass.

Concerning the repartition physical/digital, we can takes the example of Ubisoft with Watch Dogs.

Digital represents only 10% of sales. Ubisoft is not different of Activision or EA. The sell of games through digital way is still marginal. When you talk about digital, don't forget the importance of DLC and micropayment.

Does your username stand for "Synergistic Processing Element" or am I reading too much into this?

Fucks sake. It's my old high score name. I've been rocking 'SPE' since the early 80s, long before the god damn CELL came along. And the recent Sony Picture e-mail leak confused the hell out of me with the constant reference of the studio as SPE.

Do you have sources for this, as it contradicts articles I've read.

Especially throwing Steam in there. You really think that 80-90% of PCs games are purchased physical at retail?

http://www.engadget.com/2014/08/24/report-92-percent-of-pc-game-sales-in-2013-were-digital/

Edit: Googling a bunch of games and publishers, and the 10-20% figure for console games seems right. It's just PC where retail is massively eclipsed by digital. Apologies!
