Monster House GBA - Gamespot review (sleeper hit??)
#1
http://www.gamespot.com/gba/adventur...se/review.html
8.2 The Good: Successfully swipes many concepts from Legend of Zelda; nice balance of real-time combat and puzzle solving; ability to switch kids is handy ; slick presentation; faithful to the movie. The Bad: Not much variety; music is pretty drab. "For sure, if you enjoyed the Monster House movie, you're bound to enjoy the GBA's Monster House video game. And even if you haven't seen the movie, you might like the game anyway, especially if you're fond of the action RPG genre. Monster House for the GBA duplicates so many of the aspects that make Nintendo's Legend of Zelda games great, that, by the process of imitation, it manages to be almost as awesome." What the hell? Did anyone here pick this game up? |

It does look pretty nice, but Gamespot's praise seems to be based on the fact that it's a licensed game...from a kid's movie, no less. The fact that it is a licensed game for the GBA that does not completely suck doesn't mean it will be a good game by the standards of normal games. Maybe if I hear some good word of mouth for it somewhere down the road I'll give it a shot.

That's the same score they gave Over the Hedge for the DS. And I didn't buy that game either.

i know a lot of guy who must be happy about that.
that game was made at the studio i work at. i myself never expect much from these games. happy to see one of them kinda works. the monster house movie was suprisngly fun also. except for that damned mo-cap everywhere...its HORRIBLE. it really is. if you're someone who appreciates good animation and knows anything at all about it, the mo-cap in that movie will drive you NUTS. |

I was looking at it the other day on Gamefly, debating whether or not to add it to my queue, but searching around I couldn't seem to find an answer to what is different between handheld version and console version, and if one is better than the other. Looks like a fun enough minor game to play between more notable releases.

I got this game for a weekend trip to the parents house ----- I also picked up Summon Knight, VP: Lenneth, and B-Daman ------------ and I'll be damned if I haven't put those on hold 'till i finish up Monster House
it's really solid, basically the entire game is a huge zelda dungeon with a new take on weapons and items - with a little metroid/castlevania mixed in there. ---- it's always refreshing to play an exploration title without a franchise-formula that you've entirely memorized (looking at you metroid,castlevania,zelda)... best GBA exploration title since minish-cap and that Kirby: Magic mirrore (which was awesome open exploration, with new formula) ----------- Last edited by sammy : 07-31-2006 at 04:58 PM. |
