During a games convention that happened this weekend in São Paulo, Brazil, an executive of Lamatel (the company that distributes Nintendo products in Latin America) revealed that the Wii will make its way into Brazilian stores on the first week of December, costing between 1,400 and 1,500 BRL (640 and 690 USD). The only launch title confirmed for Brazil so far is Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess.
It all works out in the end.
1400-1500 barzillion monies right?
take off a zero and youve got the american price. :tinfoil:

Yes, we have chariots, horses, no computers, nothing. We live deep in the jungle, but we got Wii. :)Originally Posted by koam

Yes, but I don't want boobs.Originally Posted by Juice

It all works out in the end.
It'll be between 150-250$. Isn't that enough until we get the price? Can we stop with all the retailer/contet/manufacturer/third party software maker/rumor accounts until then? Sheesh.
Aren't we all?Originally Posted by Chris_C

They aren't singling out the Wii... The Wii is the only one mentioned because it's the only one released officially in Brazil... Neither Sony nor Microsoft release their consoles officially around here, everything is imported.Originally Posted by XiaNaphryz
I like how they single out the price of the Wii, never mind the fact that the same high taxes make all the other consoles that much more expensive as well. Another fine gem of gaming journalism! :D

Currently, (these prices can change greatly in different shops...) the GC costs 599 (in our currency), the DS Lite costs 649, and an imported X-Box 360 Premium costs 2.399...Originally Posted by Notorious_Roy
Are there any other consoles released in Brazil, and how much did they cost?
The source of the quoted article doesn't mention that (http://wnews.uol.com.br/site/noticia..._conteudo=5561).Thats not true.
It's most likely just a mistake of gametv.
EDIT: I did a quick search in google and couldn't find any mentions of Nintendo + Lamatel, besides that one article...

Plus with all of the sugar cane they harvest each year...(sugar is expensive when it comes to trading)
Um...yeah.... At any rate. The US is ****ed anyways. They'll never get out of debt, and at the rate they are selling their land/resources to other countries they won't have any of that soon enough either.Originally Posted by Neo_Dasus

But I think will be even cheaper importing direct from the US.

And by "importing" you mean "stashing the console and its accessories under your clothing". :)Originally Posted by Tyrael

Jokes aside, I think I'm gonna import mine the good, lawful way. :P

In this interview (dated from late june) he compares the GC price in the USA with it's price in Brazil, coming to the conclusion its 3x more expensive.
Then he says *IF* the Wii is U$250, then it would cost about R$1600.
Gametv.br = Brazilian Spong (or the inquirer perhaps?) :lol
Hah, in that case, Wii is incredibly cheap.Originally Posted by NeonZ

Should be around 120 dollar around here then :P
Oh wait, bad dream, I'm in the UK................ NOOOOOOOOOO, It'll still be overpriced!!!
So it's a fake?Originally Posted by skybaby

I'd say that's confirmation enough. The article is fake.
No, it isn't. I had the chance to interview Rafael Gomez this year, and I've known his company -- formerly known as Motta International -- for the website I work for:Originally Posted by Mr. TV Goggles

Anyways, I think this won't be the final price anyways.
Edit: It's LATAMEL, not Lamatel.

Motta Int. is the company that distributes Nintendo products in LA...
The price doesn't surprise, consoles prices in LA are waaaaay too expensive... -___-
Edit: Wait... so Motta is now Latamel?
I remember when the GBA was being released back then, UOL Jogos ran a story about how we would get Green and Yellow GBAs exclusively for this market, with pictures and everything... we all know how that went...
UOL usually just pastes badly translated rumours as fact (along with making stuff of their own).
Besides, how could we have a price on the Wii when the american price is not even discussed yet?
Saying it will cost three times the price is just common guessing (take into effect that 1 dollar equals 2.5 reais and put 60% taxes on top of it).
199 usd + 119,4 usd (60% taxes) * 2.5 (dolar-real) = 800 reais
250 usd + 150,0 usd (60% taxes) * 2.5 (dolar-real) = 1000 reais
299 usd + 179.4 usd (60% taxes) * 2.5 (dolar-real) = 1200 reais
add in the percentage for the company's profits and you get the figures that people are blabbling out.
You can also consider that the dolar exchange rate fluctuates, so every company will use a much biger than that exchange rate.
There's no real news here, folks. Just educated guesses.
Latamel = Motta International's new name.Originally Posted by Farore
