This was made more interesting by the fact that the two games are being developed by separate companies with AM2 working on the PS3 title and Sumo Digital developing the 360 version. Plainly put, the PS3 looked a little better with sharper textures and incredibly detailed player models. It was almost eerie when we noticed the veins sticking out in our character's forehead.

Can't be that difficult if we have several devs already aiming for it at launch. It took 2 yrs to see the first 480p game on the PS2 by comparison, didn't it?

very true, they probably didnt know it was running @ 1080p, hence giving reason to why they never said anything about it. but don't shoot the messenger, i was just replying to his question.

"First off, there are very few if any sources for 1080p available. 2nd, on a 1080p capable display, 1080i and 1080p would look virtually identical, as both are 30 frames per second. 1080i is 60 fields (half frames) per second which equates to 30. There is currently no spec in HDTV standards for 60 fps 1080p.
Also, you wouldn't see the difference on your plasma anyhow as it is a 720p display. There are very few 1080p plasmas and they are $10k or more. There are some smaller LCD panels from Westinghouse and others that are 1080p and for big screens your choices are pretty much limited to the D-ILA and Sony's SXRD, both of which are LCoS technologies. There are currently no LCD based RPTVs that are 1080P.
Also, while DLP makers market their displays as 1080P, they are IN FACT, not 1080P. They use 720P chips and a process called wobulation to approximate 1080P, but you can readily see the difference when seeing a DLP system next to a same size SXRD system.
This is why I purchased a Sony SXRD, even though I'm not too fond of Sony as a company. Finally got it delivered yesterday too."

Yeah but they also said that PS3 version is more detailed, meaning that polycount and shaderwork had a meaning as well.

Is there a clear reason why Sega seems to be letting the notion out that the PS3 version will be superior to the 360 version? I can understand if it was between the PS3 and PS2 version but why go out of your way to demonstrate that a game your releasing on the two most powerful next-gen consoles will not be up to the same quality? That to me is very under handed, not only to them but consumers.

listen to the 1up podcast where the Sega rep joins Luke and the gang for a chat. But I really think it has to do with similar tech in the arcade boards vs the ps3 hardware.

edit:

I'm not sure what the relationship between framerate in the game versus the monitor/tv's supported refresh rate's is, but it doesn't make a difference to the point that resolution increases carry the same benefits for games on TVs as on monitor. The reason has nothing to do with the display, but the nature of rendering.

im not downplaying it. im just saying 90% of those who are blappering 1080p ftw dont even have the money to buy a good 720p monitor let alone a 55+ inch HDTV 1080p monitor which actually accepts 1080p feeds. its like saying a certain drink is great/sucks without even tasting it

Uh ok. :) You do realize this is a thread on a PS3 / Xbox 360 game shown in 720 P and 1080 P right? It's not a circle jerk PS3 1080 p thread. Just curious :).

Maybe if you guys didn't feel the need to punctuate every other post with M$ AM CRY this sort of thing wouldn't happen. But within the posts of oh so many SDF members lie the charred beating hearts of the bullies who decked your books in Junior High. I don't blame them. They are the big fish in the pond. Neatly, you don't need a large 1080p TV to benefit from this. A 1080p image resampled for a 720p or lower TV will enjoy the benefits of supersampling AA. It's a bonus for everyone.

Yeh I was thinking of the US percentage. Your figure sounds right for worldwide.

Anyway does anyone know how much AA you'd get from down-sampling 1080P -> 480P?
