Games You'll Never Play Because You Just Won't

I just don't understand the appeal. I get to play as a dick, steal cars, rob banks, murder pedestrians? No thanks...

I remember when GTA3 was released on the same day as The Two Towers. My friends berated me for buying The Lord of the Rings game instead of GTA. To this day I still believe it's one of the best decisions I ever made =)

Yeah, this is pretty much one of the biggest misconceptions you can have.

1. GTA is a satirical action comedy. Everything you can do it in is dripping with sardonicism and wit. The stuff people say, the missions you do, the actions you take - all a black mirror on our society.

2. It's free form sandbox game. You can hit people. Strippers exist in the game. If YOU choose to, you can go hit them. That's not the point of the game. The point is to play a character in this city.

Any Final Fantasy game. The art direction, storytelling and gameplay (from what I've seen) does absolutely nothing for me.

Dark Souls II....I've finished all the other games, excluding Demon's Souls which is just too above my difficulty curve to get past level 3-3. DS II's movement is wonky, the designs look uninspired & overall just seems lacking in imagination. I played for 45 minutes once and never will again.

The Bioshock and Dishonored series. Funny enough, I own every entry, but I never had any appeal or interest in getting past the first hour or so. Just couldn't do it. No idea why, especially since that type of gameplay, story/lore, and enviornment are ones that really are enjoyable too me, but like the OP suggested in his topic, there's no real reason why I'm not playing them despite being fantastic games.

Call of Duty for incredibly shallow reasons: I just don't want to be associated with other people that play CoD. I have zero interest in the actual games too, but that's really secondary to the main reason. When people assume I play CoD or Fifa (I work at a gamestore) I'm very fast to deny that.

Usually movie franchise games I stay away from. The only one I actually liked was Spider Man 2 and I think LOTR The Twin Towers on the OG Xbox.

Jet Set Radio, I just can't. Game feels stiff and slippery if that makes sense.

Those trucking games.. feels like a chore.

Casino games and such.

The majority of always online titles.

Majority of Nintendo first party IP. Doesn't appeal to me in the slightest and Nintendo's approach to pricing old games rubs me up the wrong way.

Anything that doesn't use a controller for input.

Probably the Souls games. I got Demon's Souls with PS+ a while back and played it for five minutes and gave up. Anymore, I don't like playing games that are difficult and require lots of patience.

The Souls games (don't have the time to invest into the genre)
JRPG's/SRPG's/MMO's (have never appealed to me)
Turn based games
Strategy based games
Retro gaming
2.5 sidescrollers
Indie gaming

I'm sure there is more but that's all I can think of right now...

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Bayonetta, the super sexually charged atmosphere is just gross to me

I think I'll never play The Last of Us, despite owning the game since day one. I didn't like the setting, neither the stealth, etc. I'm not really a graphics whore so graphics alone don't motivate me at all.

BTW could someone please spoil the story + ending to me? Via PM or some link with a resume of the whole thing? Thanks.

Uncharted(except half of 2),the last of us. I'm just not in not naughty dog characters, gameplay, or focus on cinematic set pieces. They do nothing for me. Just like call of duty campaigns. I don't find it impressive.
The Last of Us and the Uncharted games aren't really that comparable. Gameplay, tone, characters, etc. And the set pieces in The Last of Us aren't "cinematic" linear moments like Uncharted but rather focused on gameplay scenarios that use the different enemy types, level layouts, and mechanics in interesting ways

Assassin's Creed. I got swept up in the Black Flag hype. I get it. These games are actually really fucking cool, in a lot of ways. You get to go touring history as the Batfleck backed by awesome visuals, animation, and soundtracks. The combat can get pretty deep, too. It's just these games are bogged down with so much busywork and the combat doesn't play the way I like, I like feeling like I'm fully in control of my character's actions and I never do in AC. So I don't play 'em.

Call of Duty/Battlefield/any shootbangs, really. My skillsets for those only exist in Halo 3 and GoldenEye 64. They all look so similar.

MOBAs I just can't see myself spending time on. Overwatch might change that for me, but even then I'm still hesitant to drop in on a console game that already has too high a learning curve for me.

Also Assassin's Creed. Hell, I downloaded Black Flag on Wii U because it was $15 on sale, but...eh. Might even be the finest of the AC series, but I just can't be bothered to tap the button.

Mario games.

I just don't understand the appeal. I get to play as a psychotic Italian plumber who murders innocent turtles and mushrooms? No thanks...

Sports games besides golf/fishing
Mario Party
Overwatch/Battleborn/MOBAs
Destiny/MAG/etc.

I really don't like online games, the only online focused games I've really bought were the FF MMOs and I only played for the included time. Just not my thing. I guess I bought Star Wars Battlefromt, but I've played all the missions a bunch and just get destroyed if I play in matches.

I thought I'd never play GTA or Mass Effect, but eventually I did, and ended up loving both franchises. Since then, I never say never.

But I'll never play Elder Scrolls. Fuck Elder Scrolls.

Op mentions games that you don't really have a reason for not playing. For me its FF13. I wanted to play it, yet I also don't and I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's time, the story, or gameplay but I can't really put my finger on it.

Same. I rarely play multiplayer. I'd recommend stuff like Rocket League and Nidhogg. It's all skill based, no need to worry about the other guy having better weapons or perks than you.

Any of the Half Life games for me. I've read so many good things about them but I just don't care enough to buy them (even when dirt cheap on steam) for wherever reason

MOBAs and non-Blizzard MMORPGs (even tho WoW sucks right now and I wont play that)

MOBAs I cant be bothered to learn, and I guess I have blind faith Blizz might once again make a cool MMO, but it has more to do with the fact that I havent enjoyed anything but WoW in terms of MMOs.

I think most people say they won't play certain games or genres because they have certain beliefs or expectations that they assume applies to all similar games. Like the people who say they won't play turn-based games...what games have they played to get that impression? Have they even played a turn based game, and just think they wouldn't like it for some reason or another? Do they think every turn-based game plays the same?

99,99% of them
Because I have little money to spend on them :(

Which leads to:
- Xbox One exclusives
- Wii U exclusives (Would like to, though)
- PC Exclusives
- Multiplayer-oriented games (like MOBAs)
- Sports games
- AAA annual shooters
- Most (if not all) of Ubisoft AAA catalog (as of now)

The Last of Us. I have tried four different times to play this game. I have never gotten more than an hour into it until I was bored to tears and had to stop. It's just not for me I guess...

I probably won't play any future assassins creed games. I tried several and they just aren't my thing. MOBA games I have no interest in trying at all. Also games like hyrule warriors. Can't stand them. Oh and sports games in general. Atelier (anything). Any super realistic scary games like PT. I guess that's about it.

Those hundreds of mediocre anime themed jrpgs that seem to come out in steady stream every year.... Hyper Neptunia seems to be the epitome of these sort of games

Mass Effect 3

I was obsessed with the first two, but I've heard so much negativity about how the 3rd one ends that I don't want to play it and have the other two ruined for me.

Edit: I guess that's a good reason not to lol

Eh, then I'd say any platformer with cartoonish characters.

I won't say never but there were/are a good number of MMOs/Online video games that I was and am excited for that by the time I get a new PC (waiting on new Titan), the games may be shut down by virtue of being online games. I already missed a couple of games because of this.

I won't play any MMORPG, due to the time commitment, which often also means time commitment to be available for other players. I feel like I got too addicted to FFXI, and I don't want to be in that position ever again.

I also won't play MOBAs for pretty much the same reasons, plus that I don't find them fun, plus I am bad at them.

OP sounds like a soccer maom from the early 2000s who got all his info on GTA from the news.

Up until the last 30 minutes, it's a damn, damn good Mass Effect title. I suggest giving it a go.

Does his best thinking in the flying car
Even though I once thought it would be kind of nifty to do so, I'm never going to play the first couple of Ultima games.
