1up preview

Old?

Another great preview for Madden Wi, with a nice little nugget.

I always thought this was a no-brainer, but it's nice to hear that there is actual confirmation of it. I'm assuming a spike motion, maybe a 'dunking through the uprights', and hopefully some player-specific dances. Terrell Owens alone could provide huge fun. Do the Bird Dance, grab the cheerleader's pom poms and shake them around, use the Wii-mote like a Sharpie to sign the ball and give it to a fan, overdose on pain pills, it's wide open!

This could really be the most fun, and humiliating for an opponent, part of the entire game if done right.

I grew to really hate the Madden games(I love sports but favored the more arcadey ones for videogames) but I really want to try this one out as it seems like they put a lot of work into it.

So much for all those that wrote this off with the ultra trendy cry of "gimmicky".

The joke seems to be on them.

and will you have to deal with celebration fines in superstar mode?

Never been interested in NFL in any shape or form, but this is high on my radar. I really hope EA put a similar amount of love into their other sports games, especially NHL and FIFA

Yes. It's called the ball kick after you do it the 15th time to a buddy. :D

...However you see it, Madden on the Wii becomes a new experience. While it still possesses the same strong football fundamentals, from the moment you start playing with the Wii Remote and its Nunchuk you get that exhilarating feeling of doing something really cool that you've never done before. The FreeMotion controls EA devised to use the motion-sensing capabilities of the new hardware do a remarkable job of pulling you into the experience of playing a game of football...

...But it's worth it for the visceral experience of playing football. Using the FreeMotion controls with the way they give you a feel of being more in the game makes pulling off a big play that much more rewarding. Throwing that pass to the wide receiver just as he comes out of a double move with the right touch to take it over the underneath coverage, but enough zip that it gets there before the deep guy can close, satisfies even more when you feel like you really "threw" it...

wow!

i caught garnett's positive stance on the wii version during the 1up yours show, but i didn't expect such a glowing preview.

even though i'm not a big madden fan this is good news and significant imo, given his generally negative stance on wii before this and considering madden is developed by a third party.

edit - i hope more third party games turn out well on wii.

I'm delighted by the positive reactions the game is receiving.

It might even convince me to a buy a Wii Madden. It wouldn't be the first one. But maybe the second one. Hell, it will give them time to improve the netcode from the other versions before adding it to the next Wii version AND allow them to perfect the motion controls.

Yeah, online FreeMotion multiplayer in 2008 seems like the way to go.

This is why Wii was born.
Games like this and Mario and the likes seem like they are worth the entry fee alone.
And i'm sure many others will take it one step further

i sort of feel the same. while i don't want to spend £40 on it, and i would probably get bored of all the breaks in play and not understanding the rules/plays, I still want to try this game out to see how it all ties together because it sounds pretty tight

i'm not a fan of rugby videogames, but perhaps the wiimote could make them more interesting, I wonder if a publisher will release a wii rugby game to coinside with the world cup.

RAYMAN KID RETURNS!

I think Wii is one of the best things to happen to Madden. Sales are still high for the current games, but interest is definitely waning among the hardcore fans.

If this game had online with would the shizbang. Given it does not, it's merely the shiz.

Winning Eleven was confirmed I guess. FIFA is rumored (with "strap the wiimote to your foot" controls, nontheless).

Doesn't anybody else think that an Ice Hockey game could work great with the wiimote? Quick flick for a slapshot, smooth movment for a curve shot, push the controller for checking... I think in general sport games could work great with the wii because you could have the same complexity with easier controls.
