This is likely an attack by the PKK offshoot TAK which attacked the sabiha gokcen airport similarly this year.

This incident could have been worse if the terrorists got through the airport terminal

Read on reddit live thread that there were 4 armed men seen running away after the explosion (could be guards though I guess?), and another report of at least 1 armed terrorist still at large at the airport.



Also why not some more quoting of astroturfing's post? haven't been nearly enough!

I am going to be very pedantic, but I think it's important to point out the common misuse of the word "casualty".

A "casualty" is an individual who is either injured or killed. A "fatality" is the term that is used to describe someone who has been killed.

Thus, "minimal injury with no casualties" is self-contradictory.

This is horrible. Another horrible day on planet earth. The most frustrating thing about it all, is that these despicable acts are going to continue. Day after day.... It's like a math equation that no one on earth has the ability to solve, yet. Until someone does, there will be groups out there that will continue to settle for murder, chaos and wanton destruction.

My condolences to the families of this recent tragedy.

But you know. The Kurds actually have a positive reputation. Isis don't.

Does anyone know if the Kurds do suicide missions ? Or is it typically some other way they do it.

The PKK does conduct suicide attacks on soft targets.

I don't get turkey sometimes. Second largest army in Nato. They should simply march into qandil and lay waste to it

is there a reason it's happening at airports? are they really easier than other places?

I still feel it's just the idea of things happening that fuel people, a lot like school shootings.

This makes me a bit afraid to travel, I eventually have to but I will be looking around at everyone like a freak.. sucks that the world makes it this way and I have my own issues that cause me to think too much.

With all the issues we already have, it is truly terrible we have people doing these things

i'm really saddened and horrified by this news. I usually use Turkish Airlines to fly to Japan, and i usually change aircraft in ataturk airport. I've been there two times and i loved it, it was a really beautiful airport.

this things should never happen. never.

There's your reason.

They'll probably hurt Turkey's tourism quite a bit. That's direct, large-scale economical damage to the country.

It's really easy to make people afraid with stuff like this. You're still much more likely to die/get hurt in, say, a car in your home country than any tourist spot/hub in Turkey even if you spent your entire life there. But the psychological effect is huge.

I don't think the Kurdish case will be resolved until the Kurds are allowed to have a socialist society free of Turkish oppression.

Airport security tried following one suspicious guy, he later meets with two other , airport security orders them to freeze and lay down they take out their guns -at least one ak-47 according to pics that came out from the airport- they randomly attack passengers and airport security at the xray gates. They also bombed the xray gates. At least 10 dead and at least 50 injured for now.
