For those respective games on the PSP in Japan, I think those numbers are pretty good. I simply posted the pic because I think they should've sold more, because they're damn awesome. But, such is the PSP situation in Japan.

The PSP market has been filled with undiluted crap. It's no surprise that PSP owners are avoiding quality titles when they get burned by shitty ports and other stuff.

I don't think it would have mattered if the game had been released on the DS instead. It's a shame; Capcom released three excellent "2.5D" platformers that nobody bought. :(

I see two third party DS games on that have sold double the highest PSP game (third party or otherwise). I see a third third party DS game higher than that same PSP game, though not double it -- just a respectable 63,000 more.

My point is Nintendo squashes their publishers beneath the weight of their franchises..it isn't a good thing, about the only people who can compete are people like Square Enix, Capcom, Konami, Sega, and other large third-parties.

I have a feeling they'd rather have squashed sales than no sales at all, which is happening on the PSP...

If you mean compete as in 'sell equitable amounts' then yes, but any smalltime company trying to compete with the big players for pure number sales will stare at failure for the rest of their existence.

They care about PROFIT, not carts moved, and in this case, thanks to DS dev costs being even lower than GBA ones, I'm certain many don't care about Nintendo hogging the top 10 limelight while they turn a decent profit with their own smaller games.

Thats not true..I'm seeing more top 100s by relative unknowns on the PSP than on the DS, that tells me that the PSP is less hostile to small third-parties than DS.

Okay, let's try this another way, since you don't feel like doing any actual number crunching and just want to spout off.

Total DS third party sales: 3,713,078
Total PSP third party sales: 1,865,419
Total DS third party sales lead: 1,847,659

Average DS third party sales: 112,518
Average PSP third party sales: 77,726

Median DS third party sales: 73,040
Median PSP third party sales: 56,750

Higher total sales. Higher average. Higher median. How exactly are you making the case that third parties are doing better on the PSP? Enough of this stupid shit tonight.

I like how it's become normal to use the "let's not count Nintendo games" excuse for lists. It speaks volumes.

Nintendo's first party success is nothing to worry about, as we're seeing now. The DS is getting support from third parties solely because of the massively expanding userbase. It's like the PS2 of handhelds, but the third parties had to feel their way around before supporting it.

Not in the period of time this listing covers. I'm only comparing sales within the tracking period, for trend purposes.

The problem would be... that nintendo makes better DS games than others? What do you mean?

They are clearly not the only worthwhile third-parties to think so it ridiculous and close-minded. My posts have not been the most well-typed or thought out at times in here but I've been doing a bit of math myself.

Nintendo sales: 13,587,706

Even if I'm off by a good bit, that demonstrates my point. The vast majority of sales belong solely to Nintendo, even large third parties have had problems with this. The success of the PSP would mean a far greater chance of many third-parties succeeding greatly than the success of the DS would/does.

Mind you, I don't want the DS to fail..I also don't want it to continue along the line of previous Nintendo handhelds where there was a virtual monopoly, or a total monopoly on the handheld gaming sector.

I say again:

Total DS third party sales: 3,713,078
Total PSP third party sales: 1,865,419
Total DS third party sales lead: 1,847,659

Average DS third party sales: 112,518
Average PSP third party sales: 77,726

Median DS third party sales: 73,040
Median PSP third party sales: 56,750

Higher total sales. Higher average. Higher median. How exactly are you making the case that third parties are doing better on the PSP? Enough of this stupid shit tonight.

It does not matter what Nintendo is selling if third parties are still selling more than they would on the PSP. Christ.

This is where the base of your flawed reasoning lies.

3rd parties DO NOT CARE ABOUT HOW NINTENDO DOES (unless they're immature fools). They care about how much they profit from the system.

In the top 100, ethelred has shown that DS 3rd party beats PSp 3rd party in flat sales, AND their profits would likely be higher selling 1 DS game than a PSP equivalent due to dev costs.

Thus Nintendo doing well is irrelevant to the rest of the market.

We had some of the best games ever coming out on those handhelds. The GBA is still my favourite gaming system. In a market where Nintendo has held the monopoly, I'd say they've been doing a pretty good job of it.
