31 Days of Horror 6 |OT| The October Movie Marathon

Yes! Best thread of the year is back!

Pity I watched Hush just last week. Still, it's a great movie, really enjoyed it.

Going for as many Christmas horror movies as I can this year, plus catching up on some newer films I haven't seen yet. Really looking forward to October!

Although it's not a movie, the 2nd episode of season 1 of Tales from the Crypt is Xmas themed. I watched it last year and enjoyed it quite a bit. The actor who plays the bad guy in Darkman plays a wonderfully deranged Santa. It was good dumb fun.

I'm still putting my list together for this year. Hopefully I'll be able to do 31, but it's always a challenge with work and a toddler at home.

Can someone recommend some good home invasion or home imprisonment-type films? Things like Don't Breathe, 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Purge, and other movies in that vein.

DeathoftheEndless

Crashing this plane... with no survivors!
I ended up watched 36 movies last year, which included some rewatches.

I just picked up some giant monster movies because my friend loves that kind of stuff. Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, It Came From Beneath The Sea, Them!, and the grand-daddy of them all, The Giant Claw. Other than that, I have a very diverse list.

3rd year for spooky movies! My main theme is slashers. I've seen a number already, but those were subversions and deconstructions (Cabin in the Woods, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, the Scream movies). Now I'm going for the classics. Also, an alphabetical list of movies beginning with "The".

Finally! This will be my first "31 Days of Horror". I'm so excited!

I'll break my list in three categories.

I'll watch a "Classic" (which I consider movies made before 1970), then a "Goldie" (from what is the golden age of horror to me: 1970-1989) and then a "Modern" (movies made after 1990). I'll go through this ritual until the end of the month.

Other mandatory thing for me will be to watch movies that I've never seen before. I think it will be a really fun marathon.

I may watch these in memory this year

Gene Wilder - Young Frankenstein
Jon Polito - The Crow
Alexis Arquette - Bride of Chucky
Alan Rickman - Sweeny Todd

I highly recommend everyone keep a link to their letterboxd account with your posts. Would be nice to establish relationships that way and helps to expose everyone to films you'd have otherwise not known existed.

https://letterboxd.com/kinggroin/

That's mine. Follow me, I'll follow back

Funny Games (watch both original and remake), INSIDE (highly gory), High Tension (best scenes are in the house), Panic Room, Hush (nice twist), Martyrs (original holy shit...)

I'm going to subscribe to this thread. I loved horror movies since I was a kid. Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Night of the Living Dead. I actually watched the latest Paranormal Activity movie this weekend on Netflix. Can't be sure if I will be able to watch 31 movies, but I can get a recommendation of horror flicks that I have not seen.

I would recommended High Tension to everyone. Great movie, and a must see.

Good luck to you all.

Excellent! Thanks guys! I love gory stuff so I'll have to check out Inside for sure.

sweeny todd isn't horror though

Its got a Halloween theme of sorts though I haven't watched the whole thing.

Which reminds me, I should do a kids cartoon somewhere in my list like Charlie Brown or something instead of all gore and guts. Dammit, I meant to include Goonies which isn't horror or Halloween necessarily but seemed like a good fit. Oh well, maybe some bonus flicks ;)

I'm not trying to downplay your OT TF cause you do a kickass job of creating my favorite thread every year, and also definitely not to take away anything from the legendary Gene Wilder, but we did also lose a horror icon in Angus Scrimm this year.

So far, I've got:

I have no clue if I'll be able to get through the whole list, but I figured I'd go ahead and make a tentative list for this. I figured I'd take this as an opportunity to try and finally take the chance to check out some films that I've heard about for years or had only seen small parts of before.

I'm actually taking a Horror Film class this semester, so the three bolded films are actually scheduled for class sessions in October and I'll be seeing them on the big screen. The italicized entries are films I've already seen in their entirety before.

1.The Last Man on Earth (1964)
2. Carrie (1976)
3. Suspiria (1977)
4. Halloween (1978)

5. The Phantom Carriage (1921)
6. Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

15. Hush (2016)
16. Alien (1979)
17. The Invisible Man (1933)
18. The Mummy (1932) (though last time I saw it was when I was 6 or 7)
19. Haxan (1922)
20. Nosferatu (1922)
21. Don’t Look Now (1973)
22. Freaks (1932)

I'm excited! :D

I'm looking for movies this year with good "Halloween" atmosphere. I don't necessarily mean that they take place on Halloween but just that they fit this time of year well. That is open to interpretation. Any recommendations?

I'm really excited for this. I watch a ton of horror movies every year in October and this is my first year as a non-lurker on Gaf so can't wait to participate.

I've already seen the two required viewings, but I'll post my thoughts on them come Oct.

I hope I can be depraved enough to watch 31 flicks, but it's probably going to be closer to half that as weekends are my only available times.

Will attempt this again this year, since I got through jack squat of my list last year with the Evil Kids/Possession.

No theme this year for me, it's too hard to track down titles that match.

<will post list later>

God DAMN at the stuff you're getting to see for the first time.

I pretty much watch horror all year round 365... So my October list this year is going to be mostly a handful of picks I really want to watch then I'll just choose the others randomly based on my mood. I tried the 31 challenge last year and threw in the towel early cause I watched disappointment after disappointment so it became a chore.

Only ones I am positive on so far are:

Halloween (original)
Halloween 2 (original)
Halloween 3
Trick R Treat
Tales of Halloween

Now I just need to come up with a good variety to mix things up.

Hell yes. I've done this by myself for about a decade. I got my roommates and some friends into in it college, they all really liked it and after the first year they asked before October rolled around if I was doing it again.

I'll gladly participate in this thread, looking forward to see what other people watch. :D

Edit-

Shudder is a Netflix type service that is strictly horror movies, only 4.99 a month.

Some that I'll definitely be watching,

Evil Dead 2
The Innkeepers
Deep Red
Tenebre
City of the Living Dead
The House by the Cemetery
Zombi
The Beyond
Trick r' Treat
We Are Still Here
Planet of the Vampires
Bram Stoker's Dracula

Gonna try to find some films I've never seen before, I'm a huge horror hound and it gets more difficult as time goes by to find gems. Thankfully the horror genre has seen a resurgence with some great new directors and new takes on the usual tropes.

I would highly recommend that people check out Lucio Fulci if you aren't already familiar with his films, a true master of the trade.

My List...
The Return of the Living Dead 1985...

Arguably the WORST zombie scenario ever conceived.

Worst as in, "oh shit there's no escaping/surviving this..."

LOVE that movie, can be argued that at its core it's a comedy. Great film. Showed it to some friends at college October 2014 and they absolutely loved it.

It's genuinely funny, but man, that movie gets D A R K when you least expect it. It's downright harrowing by the finale.
