PS3 camper gives up right to ever own PS3 for free $7500 PC from PC Gamer

11/17/06 - One less Playstation 3 on the market, one more PC gamer joins the team by Norm the Intern, proud PC gamer I just got back from the Metreon, site of the San Francisco Playstation store and home of the official US launch for the Playstation 3. The gang and I were there to represent the PC gaming community and to carry out a mission to convert one diehard PS3 fan to PC gaming. Sony spent big bucks on the production, hiring the band Angels and Airwaves to play a show at around 9:00pm. ps3_5.jpg The very front of the PS3 line. Some fans had been waiting for 40+ hours, forsaking good hygiene for the hyped console. Campers indeed... ps3_6.jpg We speak to a couple guys in front, and get them interested in checking out the decked out Falcon Northwest system we had showcased inside. ps3_7.jpg Some of these guys looked half dead from all the waiting. ps3_8.jpg ps3_9.jpg ps3_10.jpg A semi with a striking resemblance to Optimus Prime delivers several hundred PS3 systems, escorted by suited security guards and the SFPD... ps3_11.jpg but at this point, we've already pulled guys out of the line to inspect the PC gaming rig. ps3_12.jpg ps3_13.jpg A couple guys try out Oblivion, NFS: Carbon, and FEAR in 2560x1600 resolution! Greg showcases the guts of the system, which is equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and Nvidia 8800 GTX video card. ps3_14.jpg ps3_15.jpg We explain the terms of the contract to willing participants. Some of the guys were ready to cut off their wristbands right there - good thing Kristen was ready with a pair of scissors. ps3_16.jpg Vlad, a notary public present to witness the event, picks a name out of all the entries. ps3_17.jpg Our winner steps forward! Neal from San Francisco now had to make the decision of giving up ever owning a PS3 in exchange for a kick-ass computer. ps3_18.jpg Neal makes the right choice, and signs the contract. If given the choice between a PS3 or never a PS3, yet a new PC..I'd take the PlayStation 3.
Value (7500 versus 600) is not a deciding factor here...it's the games and the life span. I would miss too much when I couldn't have a PS3, and the PC will be outdated within 2 to 3 years anyway.

Its a publicity stunt, they are not going to sue you. It'll cost them far more to sue you then the cost of the that $7.5k gaming rig. Its also impossible to prove and enforce; what are they going to do? Check your bank statements? Search your home in case you bought with cash? They got a bunch of hits on their website and an article for their magazine; they already got what they want.

They're not going to sue anyone, as was said, it's a publicity stunt. Besides, the way things are going the magazine is going to need all the money they can get to buy their test rigs anyway, pretty soon it'll cost as much to buy a proper gaming PC as it would to mount a defense in a full-blown Supreme Court case.
