So, given your past record, that means Mega Man, Earthbound and Super Mario RPG?

That is going to be really hard for me not to get SamSho2, even though I know I should wait for the anthology this fall...

I've wanted a copy of SamSho2 for the past 15 years, and this is the first chance I have to get it

Well, the only way they're going to get more people to buy VC releases is to let people know about them - and let people know the damn service exists. And I don't mean by sending out a flimsy piece of PR the morning the games are released.

Why NOA doesn't market VC to the masses is beyond me...

off topic but certainly of passing interest to wii owners, but has anyone seen the kellogg's smart start commercial in which playing wii sports is being presented as one of the three or four activities the women in the commercial are using to "make their heart stronger?" starting a new thread to mention it and how bizarre it is would have made it seem as if i was some dope celebrating nintendo's proliferation into that culture, and i didn't want to shit up the front page with a new thread in that vein, but holy shit at how wacky that is.

FWIW, this will likely be better emulated then anthology.

SS Tenka itself justifies anthology anyways.

Genesis EWJ (what they are putting up) is a questionable purchase, Earthworm Jim SE for Sega CD and its PC port Earthworm Jim for Windows 95 add two major features over the SNES/Genesis original: Password save, and one new level. The new level is an interesting EWJ2-style level, but it's the password save that is most important. Originally, EWJ had limited continues and no saving -- very, very hard game to get far in. Password save (or simple level select to any level you have reached before, in the PC version) is a very nice and badly needed improvement (the game is hard). The original SNES/Genesis versions do have level skip cheatcodes at least, but even so.

EWJ2 had password save from the start.

I'll probably be banished to the sixth circle of hell for uttering these words, but I think I have to be reassured about Ys Book I & II. I just watched the video posted on VC-Reviews and the combat system looks . . . gross. I'm sure there are many compelling reasons to play Ys: Book I & II, but if the combat system resembles Hydlide (which is unfortunately the first comparison that came to mind while watching the video), I'm not touching the game with a ten foot pole.

That would be because the combat system in Ys pretty much consists of you just walking into monsters, which is indeed gross. Loved the game back in the day, but really, it's a pretty terrible game technically.

Yeah, it essentially depends on how much you like bonking-into-monsters grindfest gameplay.

So in order to "fight" an enemy all you have to do is be facing them when you walk into them? That's what it looked like on youtube and based off of that footage I don't think that will be a VC purchase I'll be making.

The 'strategy' is that you have to bonk into them on the sides or back; run into them in the front and they might hit you, since that's where their weapon is.

The battle system isn't bad, really, but for me, the fact that it's pretty much all a giant grind is...

Copypasta'd from Capcom-Unity. Seems like Megaman 1 is VC bound Monday:

Quote:
To quote a blurb from the front page of Capcom-Unity:

To prepare all you Mega Man fans for the release of Mega Man 9 in September, we're going to offer you the opportunity to play the game that started it all. The original Mega Man game returns on the Virtual Console this Monday, August 4, 2008. Yes, that's right. Brush up on your old school skills and prepare for some cool contests we have in store. We also plan to re-release Mega Man 2 in early September as well.
--David Crislip Assistant Producer Capcom online division.

Can't wait. I wonder what sorta contests are we talking here?

Please stop posting random bullshit. It would be appreciated.

Of course CluCluLand and Megaman1 are "possibilities" one is one of the last viable NES releases from NOA and the other has already been released months back on other region VC lists, and is a popular precursor to a brand new retro-styled downloadable title which will also be available on said service.

Don't forget, we've got two seperate publishers who think they have a WiiWare game coming out on Monday too per Capndrake. As much as I'd like to see five games, I'm guessing one or more titles slip. Probably Ys, since Capcom and SNK were confident enough to send out press releases. Then again, Sega sent out a press release for Vectorman last year, and we're still waiting on that, so who knows.
