Unless you're going to sit like one foot away from it I'm not sure there's much point in a 40-inch 4K TV

I've been reading reviews and it seems to be a solid all around 4K TV, even seems to work great as a PC monitor. Good reviews on Walmart and Amazon.

What does the 8 bit panel mean?

All monitors and general majority of TVs these days use 8 bit panels, and HDR won't display at its full capacity on those. It essentially is pointless running HDR content on an 8bit TV.

As for this TV, it seems like it's a 10bit panel but it's, like, shit tier HDR so it does have it but it's not at full standard (the two standards are HDR10 and Dolby Vision, but hardly anything supports the latter.)

Scratch that, it IS a 10-bit panel, but it isn't HDR10 (which is the standard). It's one of those lesser HDR stuff that doesn't have as wide of a color gamut.

She likes it, but it's not like she games on it. Just watches TV and movies.

This TV is basically the KU6300 model without bluetooth. Hence the 6290 model.

I'm reading some reviews on Best Buy and some people keep saying it's a 10bit panel. What is the correct info on this?

Edit: it seems to be 10bit.

These deals are getting ridiculous now.

I could see a use for a 40" TV as a computer monitor. But my current living room set is 65" and I wouldn't go smaller for any reason these days.

I'm actually looking for a smaller 4k TV to double as a monitor myself with great response time. I don't have a living room, just an extremely tiny apartment, so a 65 inch TV would probably take up like half of an entire wall of the other room. If only they had 4k HDR PC monitors, I would just buy one of those instead.

They do already exist, but they're either 30,000 dollars or are prototypes.

See:

4k, HDR10, et cetera. Price upon request, but it's actually like 30k.

10 Bit (HDR10)

(RGB) = 1024 x 1024 x 1024 = 1.073.741.824 Colors for a 10 bit panel

12 Bit (Dolby Vision)

(RGB) = 4096 x 4096 x 4096 = 68.719.476.736 Colors for a 12 bit panel

So yeah, I wouldn't recommend buying a Non-HDR TV these days.

You forgot to mention 8bit with FRC. The industry considers this a 10bit panel.

Amazing deal if you are in the US. Even if it's only 8 bit. If you deduct the Xbox you won't get a comparable TV without spending a lot more.

Wild exaggeration. It's only "pointless" if you are an A/V officionado or run benchmarks on your TV. For the average user, non-10bit HDR is still a *huge* step up from no HDR at all.

Best real advice is, go to a store and see it in action. It might be perfectly adequate for you.

Yeah, $602.50 for me, I don't think it's a great deal at that price considering it's a $300 TV anyway and I'm sure you can get an XBO S bundle with two games for $300 too and I could live without a third party controller which is basically all you're getting out of this.
