Wii Wireless Sensor Available #1

I saw this in a different thread, but thought it deserved its own. I know everyone knows you can DIY but those are hard and ugly, there is a website that sells a pretty legit product, plus it matches the Wii well.

I might have to buy one:

It's kind of ugly.

That said, I don't like how thin the cord on the wii sensor bar is...

I'll pass, the thing's kinda fat. I'm definitely hankering for a wireless bar though...

That thing's a beast..

They should just make a wireless adapter that you can plug in the 1st party sensor bar into.

By the way, is "sensor bar" the official terminology for it in the Wii documentation? Seems like a stupid name.

The Sensor Bar doesn't "sense" anything or send any information to the Wii, so that'd basically just be a battery with a socket the Sensor Bar's plug fits into.

The worst part about this thing to me, really, is that you have to turn it on with that ugly red button on the front, meaning you also effectively lost the ability to turn the Wii on remotely.

Actually, it's not bad considering it's probably a one-man operation operating out of mammy's basement. The price is ridiculous, though.

All it gets is power from the orange port right?

Someone should just make a little battery pack that the normal bar plugs into.

Then what is the normal bar going to send its signals to?

Has it been discovered whether or not the official bar's light pulses? I mentioned it in another wireless bar thread, but hadn't heard either way yet. If N was smart they would allow the lights to pulse if tracking becomes an issue due to other IR light interfereing.

The bar is only there to act as an IR source for the Wiimotes. You didn't see the 'hacks' on Youtube yet with old TV remotes or even candles? The bar doesn't sense anything and doesn't send any info back to the Wii, the cable is just there for power. That's it.

Too big and ugly. 48 hour battery life sucks. 9V sucks.

Why don't they just release a sensor bar that can plug into a power outliet? That way it doesn't need to be close the wii and won't use up batteries.

He's got the color scheme all wrong. What I appreciated about the Wii was that the sensor bar was silver/black and didn't match Wii white. It looks very unobtrusive on top of my television. This thing however...

I really dont mind it being wireless or not, even if they made one you could plug into the wall that had a really long cord would work just fine for those of us with projectors. The problem with these wireless ones is that once the battery starts to go I imagine the signal would become extremely faint and screw up your play.

Wow, that thing sucks. It's way too huge and white, and if that didn't make it too visible, the red power LED certainly does. The OEM sensor bar is wedged into a crack above my TV where it's barely visible.

Then it would need a power brick to convert 120V AC to 9V DC.

isn't that cable from the sensor-bar just providing power? Nintendo will probably offer a battery operated bar at some point.

9.0 Performance

Provided the same accuracy as the official Nintendo Wii sensor bar.

4.0 Build Quality

Somewhat roughly contructed in garage-factory style. Critical connections are well soldered, but external aesthetics look homebrew.

9.0 Ease of Use

Install a batter, turn on with simple button switch.

6.0 Value

$24.99 is a little high considering the simple design and construction.

7.5 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Which is why I'd probably just buy a regular one from Nintendo ($10 US/$12 CAD) and modify it myself.

Somebody should just try connecting a USB charger (ipod wall charger or similar) to the wires of the sensor bar and see if thats enough.
