Edit: the source wanted to highlight Capcom part about the event that happened a few weeks ago in case people missed Capcom part. I edited the post and puted links to that past event. English isn't my first language, sorry if I sound confusing

A few weeks ago, the Game Creators Conference 2017 was held in Japan. It was here that Nintendo’s Masaru Mitsuyoshi and Capcom’s Masaru Ijuin held a joint session about Switch. Plenty of information was shared, including how dev kits cost just 50,000 yen. You can read our original post here. With GamesIndusty Japan posting a follow-up article, there are a few exta tidbits we wanted to share.

Nintendo and Capcom had been discussing Switch’s performance and specs. It was important for Nintendo as a platform holder to gather opinions from various developers.

The first thing Capcom brought up was main memory space (RAM). With the number Nintendo initially proposed, it was enough if you compare it to other hardware at the time, but Capcom ultimately dared to say that it actually wasn’t sufficient. The reason for that is because of the company’s new RE Engine. Development of the engine was ongoing internally, and in order to reach its demanding specifications, more memory from Switch was definitely needed.

Not only Capcom, but other developers were bringing up memory space as well. Of course Nintendo wanted to install plenty of memory, but it was difficult to strike a balance with cost and arranging for it took time. But ultimately, the memory space of Switch is exactly same as Capcom requested. While the actual amount wasn’t mentioned during the session, it was increased considerably.

Ijyuin said Capcom is looking into porting RE Engine to Switch by attempting to optimize it to operate in a low power state. In order to port it, it is necessary to make the engine capable of corresponding to two different performance modes: docked and portable. Therefore, it is not an easy task, but they would like to put in the effort to achieve it.

Pretty sure we had a thread on the topic as well. Too bad Capcom only has a poor value proposition in Street Fighter II on Switch announced. Hope that changes soon

Don't think they needed more memory for Re4. Guess is for a new re game, perhaps not a port for 7 though. Maybe a new revelations?

The re engine is probably a bit more versatile than some originally thought. Or is about to be. Remember how we had MTframework and MTframework mobile?

How could Nintendo have significantly increased the RAM based on a conference that took place at most 2 months ago?

Or am I reading this wrong? Or is the OP missing context?

I took it as, 2 months ago, these folks were talking about how they previously had conversations with Nintendo to increase RAM.

It's based on the Switch's hardware development, not recent releases.

The title is worded incorrectly. It should be past tense as a poster noted above.

RE7 could probably get a decent port on Switch considering it's designed to run at 60fps in VR on PS4

It's in the the article I posted above.
But yeah my title should've been in past tense since it's from few weeks ago like article said.
They just wanted to highlight that part that about Capcom and I found interesting how Capcom just told Nintendo "please step up your software because not enough memory for us"

This is an important part, Nintendo probably felt less than 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM would be good enough for them, at least they took into consideration what 3rd parties wanted.

It sort of indicates though that they might go for less again for the Switch successor that developers would have to say, "We need 8GB of 128-bit LPDDR4 RAM for our New RE Engine."

Every modern engine is versatile. Some people just can't accept that an engine running on their "supercharged x86 PC architecture" (PS4 / XB1) will soon be running on what is essentially a tablet.

If MGSV was playable at about ~30fps on last gen hardware, and 1080p/60fps on PS4, Capcom should get able to get RE7 working on the Switch with a similar compromise made.

Capcpom should port MGSV while they're at it btw.
Isn't the RE7 engine supposed to become Capcom's new standard engine for future titles=

Well, getting the engine on Switch running appears to be crucial for future multiplatform titles.

RE7 looked, ran and felt great - so my only impression of the engine is hugely positive.

Knowing they are working to get it up and running on Switch handheld is AWESOME.

Monster Hunter 5, RE revelations 3 and whatever they bring will likely be dope.

Says nowhere that they'll bring RE7 on the console. They can still use the engine for, say, a new Monster Hunter.

Not to lend credence to the rumor, but 60 fps isn't necessary at all for RE7's core gameplay.

It's a mandate for VR, which wouldn't be an issue for Switch.

Looks to me that the switch possibly had 3GB of ram at some point like it's equivilent sheild, and it got boosted to 4GB after discussions with Devs. And for a portable/tablet 4GB is pretty decent.

It would be nice to see a different resident evil title using a scaled down version of the RE7 engine with it's gameplay. Some other interesting story somewhere else in the world.

So the system is reserving .8GB to itself?
It'd be nice if they could improve upon that, even if a little. The Wii U could have benefitted so much if they hadn't decided to keep 1 whole GB for the OS and never allowing more to the devs.

I would presume that Nintendo initially went with the 3GB RAM found in the Shield but added an extra GB later to appease developers.

Wish they had increased the bandwidth while they were at it.
