In a Twitter Q&A session, the executive commented, "[We're] very focused on 1P games. I'll be careful about when we announce things but I know strong 1P is critical," adding that having those first-party games ready for Scorpio's launch is also critical.

Spencer said that having spent time overhauling Xbox Live, his team wants to put the same level of energy into first-party development. "It's a journey. Started w/ focus on hardware, longest timelines. We've rebuilt XBL and OS. Bringing same focus to 1P," he remarked.

Most of us would guess that Scorpio will get its full reveal at E3 this year, but Spencer wouldn't commit to a date or event for it yet. What he did stress, however, was giving the software a chance to shine during E3. "I want to give our games more time on stage at E3, I sometimes feel like we rush telling the story of our games at E3," he said.

Apart from the important nature of fleshing out its first-party roster, Spencer also commented that he still believes in getting the big Japanese publishers on board. The Xbox platform may be all but dead within Japan, but publishers like Square Enix obviously recognize that there's value in bringing games to a machine that has a global audience.

"I was encouraged by trip to Japan. More work to do but I'm committed to working with Japanese publishers," Spencer said. "Japanese publishers who build games that they believe have a WW audience want Xbox success. FFXV an example. Yes, visit to Japan confirmed for me we'd be seeing these coming (JRPGs), and yes I know I've said this before."

So they have Halo, GoW, and Forza ready for launch?
According to Microsoft, they have State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves slated for this year.

Forza Motorsport 7 is definitely coming. Halo 6 and Gears 5 are not.

Halo 3 Anniversary is a possibility, but I feel like they would gain a lot of brownie points if they released it as a free update for TMCC instead (alongside a PC version).

Kingdom Hearts III still confirmed for Xbox One along with the next mainline Final Fantasy!

I hope he is telling truth about the rest. That has always been my criticism of the brand as first party should be a priority.

The more he talk the more I lose faith in him. I used to believe in him when he took over, but now I regret buying an xbox one.

They might be working on getting a Scorpio mode going for Japanese games already announced /planned for the system.

Using the word "rebuilt" is pretty relevant in my opinion. I think closing studios was a big part of that.

Either way it's going to be a several year process if it does happen.

Time will tell.

In the meantime though, the first half of 2017 is so packed with games that for once, I don't have time to worry about E3 because there's already too many games to play and talk about.

Words are lovely, actions are what we want Microsoft...Show us dem games, make me excited for Scorpio.E3 gonna be very interesting this year

At the end of the day they are still committed to having every scorpio game be playable on xb1 and until that changes I remain quite skeptical of how much they will be able to differentiate it

It`s critical. Spencer is of course talking about Forza, Halo, Gears of War, and their upcoming Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2.

Just think PC low vs Ultra settings, and you're golden. It's really that simple.

Phil Spencer, the master of telling people what they want to hear without actually doing much.

If you think you'll be getting PC ultra level performance from Scorpio I have a bridge to sell you.

We don't have many games so stretch out each one longer

/jk sort of, hopefully not.

Now that Dragon Quest XI is confirmed to not have the awful archaic battle system of all the previous games, it seems like the perfect fit for Xbox One and Scorpio. Especially if they can get it running at 4K and 60FPS.

I think the unexpected success of FFXV on XB1 gave them a lot more pull at the negotiating table when it comes to JP developed games. I could see them getting a number of late port announcements and a few day 1 release announcements for future releases.

Did I miss something? What unexpected success?

Do you actually have a bridge to sell, or are you just assuming that too?

Ignoring that "ultra" settings means something different for pretty much every game, I don't actually think it'd be out of the realm of possibility for quite a few games to use their Ultra settings if 60fps isn't the target.

I would love to believe they have a few nice surprises at E3 but I expect for this it will be the focus on Crackdown, Stare of Decay 2 and Sea of Thieves. So nothing exactly brand new there. Really don't believe this focus on first party means lots of new announcements but again, please prove me wrong.

And if not, let's hope Phil does all he can to indeed bring new IP to the console. Some much needed new names.

What unexpected success? The PS4 version outsold the XB1 version many times over.

They have to have some AAA games at E3 that isn`t Forza, Gears of War or Halo, right? Not counting the games we already know of.
