FAQ

Q: I'm not familiar with rhythm games or I don't like them. Can I get into this game?
A: It's not a regular rhythm game. It is more of an action-adventure game that happens to use rhythm as a means to interface with it. The actual execution of the rhythm part is super easy! There are only a handful of commands, two of which you will disproportionally use over the others (□ □ □ ○ and ○ ○ □ ○). White lines flash on beat on the edges of the screen, so you always know when to press the buttons. Try it! It is truly a fantastically charming game, and there's nothing like it.

Q: How long is this game?
A: If you stick to the main story path, it'll take you between 10 to 15 hours. If you want to finish the sidequests as well, it'll take you between 25 to 30 hours. And if you want to grind to make your army more powerful than it ever needs to be, then the game can be as long as you want!

Q: Will the whole trilogy be remastered?
A: I thought it was the case, but apparently, only the first game was announced to be remastered. I'm sure the others will be remastered as well if this one sells enough!

Q: Does the second game allow me to import my save from the first game?
A: It sure does!! When you import your save into the second game, you retain the materials you have! This is super handy as it allows you to rebuild your army much more quickly in the beginning! So keep your save file once you're done in case Sony decides to remaster the second game!

Q: I've heard this game has input lag.
A: I personally have none, as well as many other gaffers. It's probably your TV! Be sure to set it to "game mode". If such a mode isn't available on your TV, then manually disable some of the post-processing options the TV offers, such as "cinemotion", "motion blur", or anything that modifies how an imagine would look. Regular parameters such as "colors" or "tint" do not affect input lag.

I'm trying to remember which game I spent the most time on, but didn't you need to grind a lot in the first one too? I remember never being able to finish these because of that.

Still $12 is an awesome price, and hopefully it plays well on TVs (input lag and all)

I loved this game on PSP. I feel like it's a game better suited for handhelds than home consoles though.

Fanatastic OP, AuthenticM. Of the three games, Patapon is the only one I didn't get on the PSP. I'm excited to dive into this.

If you're good at keeping the rhythm, you don't really need to grind in any of them

I just got way ahead of myself in leveling up my troops to an insane degree in 2, lol

Might have to punt on this. Got loads of extra PSN credit in the Amazon glitch the other day, and the price seems reasonable.

How long is the game?

It's basically as long as you want it to be. You can beat it in ten hours, or you can spend ages leveling up the bosses and building your army

How long is the game?

Around 15 hours just for the story, and around 30 if you want to do everything.

Also, like Hydro said, you can grind to your heart's content to make your army super fucking powerful, lol.

Input lag would be terrible for this game. Hopefully it's just their displays and not the game itself.

Uh oh. I've only seen Greg Miller (kindafunny games) talk about it and play it. I don't think he's mentioned lag but I'm not certain. Plus he's not the most technically savvy person.

I'm really torn on this. I absolutely love my memory of it, but I felt the same way about LocoRoco and kind of regret buying that.

I think I'll wait for a sale, but to anyone who hasn't played this before I absolutely recommend it.

As much as I loved these games, I never finished the first one.

2nd and 3rd, I thought were fantastic, but I've always found the first game lacking.

I might buy this just to signal to Sony that we'd be willing to get 2 or 3....with multiplayer. Now mp was dope in those games.

Thanks. I would have done some proper header images for each section of the OP if I had been on my PC instead of my macbook. But oh well. This will have to suffice!

I'd like to know what you all think of the OT subtitle. I really wasn't sure about it. I thought maybe it would be against etiquette to put so many unicode "emojis" in it.

Do NOT buy this game. Not in its current state.

I gave it 3.0 (out of 10) in my review on Everyeye.it

Patapon Remastered is actually the furthest thing from the well- deserved celebration of a glorious little cult: due to an insane amount of input lag, the game in its current state is simply not only an unplayable broken mess, but also a true offense to the immediate and unique gameplay that made the original so incredibile.

Seriously, what an abysmal tragedy this remaster is. It's so bad that at first I thought I had been doing something wrong, before blaming the game... but Patapon is among my favorite games EVER, and I did remember how fun and immediate it was, so I just tried it again on PSP (and on PSVita too, thanks to the PSP Essentials release) and there it worked perfectly.
On PS4 it's seriously an unplayable nightmare due to input lag and after nine tries - NINE - I eventually gave up at the desert stage (on PSVita I went past that at the first try, just to make a comparison). And seriously, I honestly can't believe people were able to go past that point, as it's basically impossible to build up two fevers in a row.
I can't even express how angry and frustrated this remastered got me, because you're playing it right and the game is absolutely not following you, but its own (fucked up) rhythm.
And it's too bad, as the game is still such a blast to play and has aged really well (also because it's so unique...).

Oh and before you ask, I played it on PS4 Pro, on a Panasonic Plasma VT50 model.

It's usually great [Edit: it should be around 24-28ms, according to this review].
Plus a friend and ex-colleague of mine had the very same problems, on a whole different TV (a Samsung ks7000 in his case).
It's definitely the game, it's really such a mess I can't even understand how they could release something in this state.

Other than that, it bothers me a bit buying games again. I have this on PSP already. How do others feel about buying games again on different platforms? Atleast this game seems cheap enough.

I'll tell you this: it's damn fucking hard to simply strike a beat correctly (and get that sweet and rewarding drums beat that you hear when you nail a "PON"), and even harder to keep the fever up on PS4.
Keeping up the fever is not ultra easy on PSP, but it's of course more than doable (it requires precision, but that's the point of the game, of course).

And to give you more context: on PS4 not only it's absolutely a nightmare to keep the fever up, but the desert mission (the 8th if I remember well) actually becomes an Herculean task that I failed 9 times in a row with so much frustration. I turned my Vita on, downloaded the game, and passed that very same mission ON THE FIRST TRY, keeping the rhythm up from beginning to end.
Yes, it's that bad, unfortunately.

That's super disappointing if there is unplayable lag. That said, I see lots of reviews that don't seem to think it's bad. But they may not have the same experience with the title that others do.

What's with Sony choosing rhythm games and not offering calibration options or at least trying to optimise input lag? They're the most basic of games too, so no arguments about power
