Is this old?

http://wii.ign.com/articles/768/768580p1.html

Namco Bandai Games revealed to IGN Wii on Tuesday that is planning to bring Space Station Tycoon, the latest in its series of Tycoon simulation titles, to Nintendo's new console. The game is developed by Wahoo Studios, whose last project was the well-received Outpost Kaloki X for Xbox Live Arcade, and Space Station Tycoon shares much in common with its predecessor. Players use the Wii remote to manage galactic space stations, all the while increasing their income. The game comes to life with a unique storyline that revolves around witty banter and humorous plot progression. Space Station Tycoon is set for a summer 2007 release on Wii.

Some important points...

-They say this game will be much more feature-rich, etc. so this game was planned to be a retaile game from the beginning.
-The developers sound like they can't discuss ANYTHING yet, but they do reveal a co-op mode and say they're looking forward to Wii Connect 24 support.
-The game will be playable with just the Wii Remote.
-Should be released this summer.

Hopefully, this is just another step for a real RTS game on the Wii aside from BWII.

edit: It was an XBLA games?

No. The developer previously did an XBLA game based on the same premise.

Reading through the interview, it seems like the developers have put a lot of love into the title and are excited about the game and platform. This game could be a good test of strategy games in general for the system. :)

Is this one of Matt's "crazy-awesome" games?

Looks interesting. I hope we see more cursor-based games on Wii, I can't really think of any others at the moment. I think part of it is just that everyone's sort of surprised at how easy and accurate the pointer functionality actually is.

I doubt it. From that same blog post:

"We'll be announcing a new project or two during the week. Nothing earth-shattering-major, so don't hype yourselves up, but kind of neat all the same."

The prequel, or whatnot, on XBLA was pretty tepid, IMO. I am a real sucker for Sim-type games but I guess it was a little too...forced? It's like you had no room to really build and act on your own, it all felt so pre-determined.

But, I only played the demo so...

IGN Wii: What content changes/additions have been made to Space Station Tycoon versus Outpost Kaloki X?

Jeremy Throckmorton: Space Station Tycoon is not a port of Outpost Kaloki X in any way. It is a full-featured Wii title developed for Namco Bandai Games, so none of the content is from Outpost Kaloki X. I know that sounds like a disclaimer, but we really want to make that as clear as possible.

This looks interesting, I hope it turns out well for them. But most people will probably ignore the game because they made that XBLA game.

Players are going to be able to build their own stations, instead of being restricted to one we assign them at the beginning of a level. Stations are built out of what we call islands, and there are all sorts of options for players on how to hook up and customize the islands. We have a ton of different environments in the game, and the environments can have very direct gameplay effects. For example, a nova sun can eat away at parts of your station that are exposed to it. Building a station inside a hollowed out asteroid severely limits the area you have to expand your station. Trying to manage a station on the uvula of a giant whale that swallowed you? That presents challenges of its own too. We're quite sure no one is ready for the type of scenarios Shawn will be facing. When you have characters like ours, you need to have a world that works for them.

P.S - Outpost Kaloki X was an awesome game. Everyone should try the demo atleast. Best 360 XBLA launch game imo. Also, NinjaBee developed Outpost Kaloki X and Cloning Clyde, not Wahoo (they are the same people, but a different brand - NinjaBee is their indy games division):

Steve: Wahoo Studios is a traditional contract development studio that does work for publishers and other people with money and a project. The NinjaBee name was created around the time we decided to release Outpost Kaloki, as a unique brand with which to label our self-directed Indie efforts. Wahoo and NinjaBee are very much the same people - we don't make a distinction between who works on which projects, but we use the NinjaBee label only for projects we design and create ourselves.

Outpost Kaloki X was a bit too rigid for my tastes. I prefer something which allows a bit more freedom and creativity. Perhaps they'll address these things with Space Station Tycoon?

My Sims looks promising, and I hope they'll make a SimCity for the Wii as well.

How about a Mario-branded Pizza Tycoon? :P

Yeah, the demos misleading - first level is a cakewalk tutorial, then the difficulty is ramped up out of nowhere and you have lots of micromanagement 'juggling' and tweaking of sliders to optimise cost / efficiencies.

I can't think of a single reason why / how this game could be improved using a wiimote though...

So, less than the 500pts/$5 you'd pay for, say, Legend of Zelda or Excitebike? For a brand new, Wii-level, apparently fully-featured game?

These are the kinds of games that the Wii was designed for. Better having weird indie titles which fits to the control than forced ports. Looking forward to hands on previews.
