I'm taking all bets here.
Excuse me for being suspicious of Nintendo but..... yeah.
Well, they're selling around a million + units a month worldwide, so I'm not exactly sure what you're suspicious ofOriginally Posted by Cerrius

They should be more like they're competitors and only sell well in one territory... or none.

You know, it is possible that the demand is just so insanely high that no one, not Nintendo, not Microsoft, and not Sony could produce enough units. They shipped and sold over a million in January..that's quite a bit.
NPD and all other world figures point and laugh at that accusation.Originally Posted by Cerrius

It's no secret that it's not exactly the most expensive or complex thing to build which is why these "shortages" are absolutely ridiculous.

So shipping and selling well over a million units isn't pretty impressive?
Are you kidding me?
Stop ignoring the elephant in the room- the Wii is selling every unit it ships and a lot of units are being shipped.
Wow. You really didn't read a single post between your last one and this one, huh?Originally Posted by Cerrius

They manufacture over 1 million systems per month....that's around 1 per minute....Originally Posted by Cerrius

A chip wafer is a wafer. I'm sure they all take the same amount of time to make. Much like many other components of each system.Originally Posted by Cerrius

Interesting, seems Nintendo might be shipping more to select areas and leaving others high and dry.
Who wants to bet that most stores still have vouchers left on Monday?
That's around 1 produced every 2 seconds.....:lol

Put me down for 'He won't get one - again'. He just has no luck.
Or maybe demand isn't completely equal in all parts of the country? Both anecdotal information and actual sales data point to Nintendo selling (much) more than its competitors while facing shortages. Not much to spin there. Of course 100% of the stock doesn't instantly sell out, but it's pretty close.Originally Posted by Cerrius

Yeah, Nintendo totally forced Target to hold these for SundayOriginally Posted by Newzboyz99
Ah yes...Nintendo is creating a shortage AFTER the holiday Xmas season insteading of trying to build as big of a userbase as quickly as they can.:lol

Nintendo ARE making much more Wiis than Sony are making PS3s and MS made X360s last year. The "problem" is that they're also facing a much much greater demand.
Wafers may take the same amount of time to make, but the number of viable processors out of any given wafer will vary hugely. The Broadway CPU in the Wii simply is a much simpler chip than Xenon or Cell as well as a similar (although not identical) process as Gekko, so yields will likely be much higher. Plus it's a smaller processor, meaning each wafer will have more chips that can fit on it. So producing Broadways ought to be far faster than Cells at this point.Originally Posted by Martoo

Of course, Nintendo IS getting Wiis out the door in far greater numbers than MS was shipping 360s a year ago or even Sony is shipping PS3s now, but demand simply remains off the charts. The systems are shipping and selling in big numbers, and it's still not enough.
It really is that popular and it really does sell out despite a large number of units arriving each month.
I have to get it from Best Buy, bastard!!!Originally Posted by moku

I feel Panther's pain. On another forum I frequent, I started the "Wii" thread. I've been the laughingstock for a bit there since I don't have a Wii myself.
Also, I'd like to point out that while the Wii's raw technical strength is weaker than the PS3 and 360, it is by no means not as advanced. Isn't it quite a feat to stuff something that is stronger than an Xbox into something that is several times smaller? Also, if I'm not mistaken, the disk drive is also pretty impressive.
Just because it doesn't pack as much oomph doesn't mean it's not as advanced.
I mean, seriously. You're waxing poetic over the meaning of advanced, in an availability thread. C'mon now.

Actually, regardless of what Nintendo says are their numbers each month, I have asked several stores in my area recently about Wii's, and all of them say things like "haven't recieved any in 3 weeks", and "we've got one shipment since Christmas".Originally Posted by schuelma

and it's not like i live in podunk U.S.A either. I'm near a major city, and Wii's are nearly impossible to find, and I think part of the problem is Nintendo's supply
How else do you explain the total lack of Wiimotes, point cards, and pretty much every accessory for the system? For whatever reason, Nintendo is just not making enough of this stuff.
