Is this a bad thing or a good thing? I'm not even sure anymore lol.

For context, you can buy loot boxes with silver coins which can be set to unlimited with cheats. I guess with this you don't have to worry about having to grind to get the true ending anymore. Does this mean that loot boxes on single player games are basically useless on PC?

Yep, you can even do stuff that doesn't take in-game credits like in Fallout Shelter.

It's nothing surprising, it's been a thing for a while.

Gold, which is needed for gold loot boxes, is stored server-side, so we're halfway there already!

I have 0 problems with players cheating in a single player game. I do it myself occasionally, can make replays way more fun.

I'm pretty sure that that would violate the game's ToS which WB could maybe turn around to restrict your access to the game or at least its online functions.
That said I don't have the game and haven't read the ToS. Pure speculation on my part.

Remember it's not Piracy, because the the contents in a lootbox aren't worth anything and can't be resold, which is why lootboxes arent't gambling apparently.

You can only do this with in-game currency, not with real money currency. Same goes for the loot boxes, you can buy offline the ones that can only be bought with ingame currency, those who need real money currency need server communication and thus won't work.

If you try to edit in memory value for real money currency it will be overridden as soon as you go online and server side checks run.

So yeah you're not fooling anybody, you can do that because they actually let you do that.

PS: Not defending the practice or the company, just explaining how the things work on the tech side.

Hopefully someone will pull 1000 or more of these and get the drop rate of everything. Would be good to see just how common everything is for people buying these through playing the game.

Yeah I asked about this in the thread that said the game was cracked on PC.

If you can get loot boxes for free via mod and/or cheat is that technically stealing since you have the other option to buy them with money?

Does this game work offline on PC? If it does you could always use cheat engine and get whatever item you wanted anyway or just edit your saves. Forget about lootboxes.

I mean technically the items have no monetary value so you aren't stealing anything.

The EULA you're forced to accept before even playing Shadow of War properly is such BS, it basically says they will strip your rights to play it if you cheat in any way. We'll see, I guess.

Right cause if it did have monetary value... then it could be viewed as gambling and as we know it is certainly not gambling according to the Industry.

This is a good thing. If publishers take advantage of consumers, then consumers shouldn't feel bad about taking advantage of the publishers.

It's a bit of a different story in a multiplayer game. Suddenly you're breaking a whole system that affects other players. In a single player game, there's no need to pretend there's a pretense of economy or limitation unless that makes the game more fun for you. If the invisible walls put up in a single player game happen to be paylocked, then I feel like breaking them with cheats is reasonable. Almost a form of protest.

Though I guess it's technically piracy or copyright infringement of some sort. I personally probably wouldn't go to the trouble, for me it's easier to just write off games that make heavy use of loot boxes, DLC, etc.

Well it is just fun in-game items, not something that is effectively currency after all.

No one gets mad about people stealing medicinal herbs in Dragon Quest, how is this different? It's just in-game stuff your character uses.

You can't cheat and get Gold. It will reset to the actual amount when you are online. You can however cheat and get Mirian so it's not piracy. That makes me grateful for PC gaming. Since the advent of achievements, cheat codes and devices have totally been removed from consoles.

Remember when cheats, trainers and other PC mods were piracy?

I guess you could now turn this argument on the heads of those saying loot boxes have no cash value/nor do the goods inside.

Now it's time for someone with an unhealthy interest in stats to cheat and open 5,000 boxes and spreadsheet drop rates. Of course, drop rates can be edited server side for many of these games which is why I and others want transparency so that anyone going to spend money knows what their chances are. The gold boxes or whatever they are called are the real interest here anyway (isn't that the ones you buy actual currency for?).

Most of these games are going to go always online, to try and stop things like this (they'll ban your account for cheating, even if its SP) and server-side drop rates need games phoning home as it is.

This would work even in an uncracked game. Cheat Engine has been a thing forever. Wouldn't be surprised if someone manages to get the addresses to spawn the other online only things offline eventually like the training orders or whatever else there is. WB might ban you if you try and fuck with the server side stuff online though, if you even can without hacking their servers.

So are crates in CS:GO not considered Loot boxes? Because the market for them is HUUUGE, and potentially negates that statement.

Blah I would be really tempted to do that except my PC is not running well right now. Getting the drop rate of legendary orcs in the free chests would let you know how much they have tuned the premium chests.
